I'm starting a youtube clone / streaming video site and I need some info on hosting and bandwidth.
1.) Does anyone have any information, or can provide me with a link to information, about the costs required?
2.) I know bandwidth is the biggest cost. Does anyone know what kind of prices I will be paying per gigabyte? I heard its 5 - 15 cents per gigabyte (and dropping) - is this accurate, and where can i get the best rate while still having a reliable host that can handle a lot of traffic? Is there any kind of a list out there?
3.) Besides bandwith, what other costs are involved - for example, is storage space expensive? Will I need a dedicated server, and how much does this run? Other costs?

to install in my VPS the vShare script and I have a headache with this issue, and I decide to contract an installation service. HostOnNet offers this service by $25.
I want to know if you meet this company or other that offers the same. I don't matter the price, if they are good.

how to handle the file storage of a youtube clone?
Is it just a matter of getting more servers with a few hdds or are there specialized companies that one can upload files over a distributed file streaming network?
The reason I ask is because I have thousands of gigabytes of videos and it appears to be impossible to upload it on 1 dedicated server or even a few.

One of my apps is based on querying Youtube API. My response times are badly slow: something like 2 to 3 seconds. The guys on YouTube APIs Developer Forum suggested that the response time should be more like <.5 seconds.
Would you guys do me a favor and post your results for this command:
curl -w "
Total: %{time_total}
" -o /dev/null http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos?vq=dog
It basically queries the API and tells you how much time it took API to return the data.
Please post your result and the NOC/hosting company you use. I am now considering moving to another hoster.

I have a client who wants me to develop a youtube style website. The development i have no issues with, it's the hosting/hardware aspect with which i have no experience. I imagine if there are only 20 people on the site trying to encode videos that memory on a normal server could become an issue. I'd google for some answers but im not even sure what i would google for.

Which VPS providers have the ability to clone an existing VPS?
Once I build my server, I don't want to have to do it again.
It seems like most providers don't offer this feature. What makes it so difficult?

Can anyone with previous exp. in Video Hosting/Streaming provide me some info on THE CONFIG AND BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENTS FOR ffmpeg hosting for youtube like site?
Here are the basic things-to-know & Server(s) Funtions:
1. Do Video Conversions from AVI, MKV, etc to FLV/MP4
2. Stream out these videos for viewers.
3. Expected Traffic: Quite High (1 Million Visitors/mo)
So can anyone suggest me the most suitable Server Config, Bandwidth (I'd prefer dedicated-unmetered b.w) and Host for this?
Also can anyone provide me info on the amount of video conversions and traffic a single server (with your recommended config) can handle?

I have a need to create about 50 clones of a user account. Obviously, they would each have thier own url and username.
I have WHM and root access to my server.
The reason I want to clone is because it will save massive time versus doing each one individually because the sites are exactly the same. My client is basically just using a parking page script.

I just purchased a 500GB ATA hard drive (meant to get SATA but must have misordered, but I don't think it makes that much difference) to replace a 80GB SATA hard drive on a Windows Server 2003 server. There are two partitions on the 80GB drive, and rather than add the new HD as a third partition, I would like to clone the data on the 80GB drive to the 500GB drive, then increase the partition sizes and remove the 80GB completely. Is there a specific method or software I can use to accomplish this?

Is it possible to clone centos 4.6.x + cpanel 11 hard drive to brand new disk with same capacity? just like we clone hard drives in windows with noton ghost ?.
I have a server with failing hard drive (smart errors) and drive must be replaced soon but i feel lazy to restore everything from backup hard drive and was thinking it will be smart to just copy mirror of primary hard drive from original hard drive to knew one. Is this possible?
I do have 2 backup copies, so don't worry about that .
Btw, i found this link which says its possible but i am not sure. Please suggest.

I want to be able to clone a existing virtual machine image(whether it's openvz or xen) and deploy it.
It's sort of like Amazon EC2.
I want to set up a virtual machine image once. Then deploy it(it doesn't matter whether it's on the same physical machine or not) to a new machine or overriding existing image on a existing machine. It's fine that the VPS provider charge me a monthly charge for every virtual machine I deploy.
This way, I only need to maintain one master virtual machine.
It'd be even better if I can export a image to my own machine, modify it locally, then upload it for deployment.

I am a working on a website which will be more diverse but will work in the same way SWOOPO and many other auctions websites work with bids being placed etc.
I do not want to run the site on a hired dedicated server, I have a budget of around Ģ5000 (around USD $8000) to buy a server. I was thinking of buying something from ebay, I am as of yet undecided exactly what to buy but I am leaning towards an affordable DELL 1855 blade chassis with the full 10x blades that is available. I have already made enquiries with datacentres in London about colocation costs, just waiting for an official quote.
Each blade has:
2 x Intel Xeon 3.6Ghz/1Mb Processors Both Installed
4096MB ECC RAM
1 x 36GB U320 10k Hot-Swap SCSI Hard Drives
PERC 4/iM RAID Controller
Further information in the advert:
Blade Centre Components:
1 x Digital KVM Module
1 x 10 Port Gigabit pass Through Module
1 x DRAC/MC Module (1 x Serial Port, 1 x 10/100 RJ45 Port for Remote Management)
3 x 1200Watt Power Supplies
7U Rackmount Chassis (No Rails Supplied)
All housed in PE1855, 7U Rackmount Blade Centre
Optional Gigabit Ethernet Daughter Cards Available @ Ģ60.00 per Blade
This can give 72ghz of processing power with 40GB RAM and that is awesome. Does anyone know an approximate figure of how many customers/queries the server can handle at % rates? I know this depends on the size of the database and so on but I am just looking for estimates please.
I know I will need at least two cheap servers for a SWOOPO clone, one to run the website and the other for the SQL so rather than do that and get two servers I thought this route was better when weighing up the 7u size along with 72ghz processing power.
I am not looking for advice and tips on hiring a dedicated server but I really would appreciate some advice on what server to buy because the script is nearly 95% complete and we should be launching within 6-7 weeks after heavily testing it.
