In theory i kind of understand, but just want to know what is involed in implimenting SSl to a site.
I need SSL on a website which is hosted on a shared hosting server. I know I will need a dedicated IP address a then purchase a certificate from a company.
would i have to install that on my account or would my host have to do it for me?
and could i run my whole site on [url]
its only a small site.
I have plans of introducing a website so that I can start my online business. The site will be dealing in computer accessories and all the hardware stuff that is related to the computer field with an online purchase facility. But, before that I would like to know the pre-requisites that are needed to run a website of your own that has an online payment option, as I was informed about the SSL certificate issues by my developer and would like to know more on this from you people.

any idea how to either disable https access for everything else, or just now have it redirect to that site?
When using `plesk bin --update domain.example.com -certificate-name 'certificate'`, Plesk always returns `Unable to find certificate`, I have verified the certificate exists using `plesk bin certificate -l -admin` and the spelling of the certificate name is correct. I can use the WebUI to associate the certificate to the site and have verified it works, however I need to automate this task.
Also, the online documentation for the `plesk bin site` command does not mention the `-certificate-name` option, however it is listed when running `plesk bin site -h`.

When i add the private key and certificate via plesk panel, i get the following error:

Attached is a (badly) drawn diagram of two sites, connected by a vpn.
The site to the left, is network 10.0.0.0/24 which runs a linux server as the router for the network.
The site to the right, is network 10.1.0.0/24 which runs a windows 2003 server as the router for the network.
Now, my problem is, the clients behind the windows 2003 server can ping any machine on the first network because i setup a static route to route all traffic to 10.0.0.0/24 over the vpn interface.
now, my problem is, only the linux server can ping any machine on the windows 2003 network, any client behind the linux server cant seem to route over the interface.
I have the following route on the linux server: .....
Starting point: a working site using a shared IPv4, dedicated IPv6, and SSL. HTTP and HTTPS work, the latter only using SNI of course.
The good news: If I simply allocate an IP resource of 1 to a subscription it is pulled from the pool, assigned to the service node, assigned to the web site, DNS is updated, and the site is automatically changed to using a Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6.
The bad news: visitors land on the default web site of the service node, with the default SSL certificate.
Other info: I can't ping the new IP, even though it shows in "ip a l" and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0. [edited]
After the IP assignment, it is still installed, and /etc/httpd/conf/plesk.conf.d/ip_default/domainname.conf shows the new certificate is being used.
However, a second set of VirtualHost entries is created in server.conf for this IP for ports 80 and 443, with NameVirtualHost enabled on the new IP. The port 443 entry uses the default certificate. Apache's setup this default VirtualHost entry will override the web site configuration because Apache is listening on port 443 with the wrong cert.
If I go to "Change webspace settings" and toggle to Shared IPv4, Dedicated IPv6 the site works again via HTTPS, and Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6 breaks it again. Setting the SSL cert to None and back again does not work.
Setting the SSL cert to None, changing to a dedicated IP, and enabling SSL results in the server being inexplicably inaccessible...browsers no longer connect to either the default site or the correct site, and I don't see any entries in the vhosts's logs.

I am running a site that currently has a Geotrust SSL cert installed (Plesk 7.5.3). That certificate is about to expire and I am going with one from a new vendor. My question is, do I need to generate a new CSR before requesting the new certificate or do I use the CSR from the current one and just upload the new certificate file (overwriting the current one) when I get it?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just got this ssl certificate but i have some doubts how exactly should i set up the whole magic. i created the secure.domain.com which suppose to be the sub-domain for the login page which means when user decide to sign up/login to immediately transfer to the ssl state(sample: see ebay.com and then their https login page). so, far the home page which is domain.com(or www.domain.com) it doesn't need to be covered by the ssl. so, i was just wondering how do i play the game? i know it's kinda tricky and the key is somewhere in the sub-domain name(cP set up), .htaccess and/or index.php files but not very clear to me.

So through reading on here Ive determined that only the cart or PII areas need to be secured, not the entire site.
My host provided a free SSL cert but I discovered that it is a domain verification SSL only and there is no "clickable seal" or business verification. Verification is important however Im not sure I need an EV cert (nor that I can afford it).
Im looking for business verification, clickable seal, 128/256, 2048bit, free reissue.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a SSL cert and what I might need? There was someone in the ads forum offering a GlobalSign OrganizationalSSL cert for $100yr. Does this seem like a good deal? There isnt a lot of feedback about GlobalSign on the net.

I visited numerous sites offering certs and I concluded:
- I don't need EV certificate
- 128 bit certificates can vary in price at different providers from $25 to $100 and higher
- some sites are offering 128 bit at lower price and 256 or 515 bit certs at higher prices
I don't understand why are some certs so expensive? Doesn't 128 bit cert form any provider at any price provide the same level of security?
I thought 128 bit encryption is unbreakable. Why do someone buys 256 or 512 bit cert at higher price?
Some of those more expensive certs are offering "higher level of security", warranties... Is that only marketing or there is some real value behind additional features?

I have some clients who use IE 7. And everytime that they enter their cPanel to Login they are shown a Certificate Warning.
IE 7 Tells them not to continue (Not Recommended).

However on the SSL certificate it states the old hostname, which I have been told is a bit of a pain. I wondered if there was anyway to change the common name, maybe by editing the certificate on the server?
