Web Space Storage Or Get Additional Space From Another Server
im running out of space on one of my sites but i have more then plenty of data transfer. Unfortunately my hosting packaged it weird where they provide not enough hd space. Im trying to figure out is there a way where i can use another server or hosting company that can provide space only and use their servers just for space? i think amazon.com offered this but wasnt sure how exactly this works.

Unknown Company "Easy Web Hosting" Taking Over My Web Sites
I just received two e-mails which may be some new kind of phishing scam. Full text at bottom. The message describes the beginnings of a "site upgrade" for my web sites, but it's not from the company that does my hosting. I received this for two sites that I have hosted with EZpublishing. I'm having terrible problems with EZpublishing; they lost most of my databases last Friday, have failed to respond to a trouble ticket, and phone calls divert to an answering service. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They may be going out of business and selling their remaining customers to another provider. So a message regarding migration to another host isn't unexpected. But the message below looks phony. First, they know what my domains are, but they don't apparently have access to any of my customer account information. Second, "easywebpublishing.com" doesn't have a live web site at it, just a sort of "coming soon" page. The WHOIS info for the domain shows ownership by "Internet Names for Business". "megawebservers.com", from which the email originated, is sort of a skeletal web site that looks like a hosting provider, but doesn't have any real info. "megawebhosting.com" WHOIS info shows "Moniker Privacy Services", which usually indicates a bottom-feeder if not a scam. Anyone else see anything like this? .....

Secure Web Space Costs
I'm working for an organisation which is looking for a company who can provide us with a public website to be updated with a CMS and 132 secure areas which should be accessible from that public website. Today I was sent a proposal by them stating that there would be a cost per year of: £3,350 for data storage areas of up to 20mb space per secure area (i.e. £25 per secure area) £6,700 for data storage areas of up to 75mb space per secure area (i.e. £50.70 per secure area) We really would prefer much more space per area than this (upwards of 2GB per area) and are a bit wary of how much is being charged for the storage space. I have three questions on this : 1) How do these prices compare with other hosts that you know of? Are they reasonable? 2) Is this 'secure space' much more expensive than normal space? 3) Are there hosts that offer unlimited secure space for reasonable prices? Web Space As Personal Backup
Does any reliable hosting company that offers hundreds of gigs space allow "personal backups", ie. non-web content? I've been looking at ToS of some big names but most if not all don't allow this. It would be only 1-2 gigs, so I might get away with it anyway on most hosts, but would like to avoid problems in the future. Dreamhost offers both SVN and rsync, which I'd like a lot, but they clearly forbid such use. And, I do have an external hard drive and very important files are also on DVD and memory stick, but since I need to purchase webhosting I'm looking at this extra option too.

Shared File Space For All Web Servers
Is it normal practice to have shared filespace that multiple web servers can access? Then I just provide my developers access to that filespace (one server, instead of multiple users on multiple servers) to manage files for different sites easily... right? (also meaning multiple servers can serve the same content) So.. what would be the best way to do this? We're talking Linux systems here by the way. What sort of specs would such a server need? I *think* it's NAS that I'm trying to get at.. unsure though if that's correct or not!

Web Hosting Company - Joomla
I am in the process of creating a site for my family, which is spread out around the world. I am using Joomla and have built my site on Siteground as my host. My site will have low traffic, for family only, but I want my family to be able to post pictures, chat and blog. I am very happy with Siteground but it has come to my attention that even though they offer 750gb of space I can only have up to 5gb of picture files (gif, jpg, etc.) I feel that I will eventually exceed this and being new at the whole site creation, I do not want to risk data being lost (database, files, etc.) when the time comes to transfer to a new host. The site is not active yet as I am still working out the kinks and adding more pages. I figure if I am going to make a move to another host now would be the best time. So I guess the question I have is what hosts, in your opinions, would be the best for the site I explained and still be able to work in Joomla.

UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

Major Security Problem With Mavrick Team Web Hosting Company
I am a web designer, and have been doing this for about 5 years now and have never encountered such a problem. I had a problem come up a few days ago where one of my clients got into an argument with the Mavrick Team web hosting and computer services company's owner regarding services. She has reported to me that he went into her email account, and has emailed her clients false information about her services after their heated discussion. She told him that she was going to press charges. He told her that he had harvested all of her clients email addresses and will email them to her competitors if she does not back down. What can she do? I feel awkward as I am in the middle of it now. I was the one who referred her to Mavrick Team (aka as I host them) for web hosting services, and moved her site to their servers. This man has created such a big problem for this women now. Her clients are doubting her services and he is blackmailing her. She does not owe him any monies. She has forwarded two of the emails that her clients forwarded to her, so I know she is not making this thing up. I advised her to move all of her emails to a personal email account, contact all of her clients to let them know that someone has access to their info, and I am helping her move her site. Who can she report them to?

I am trying to pick a hoster, but I would like some help please. The site I am making is going to be a personal site, with a photo gallery, which will start out with about 500-1000 photos and will grow anywhere from 10-a few hundred a month. To Find Web Host For Personal Web Site
This is my first attempt at using a web hosting company. I currently use a free service from my ISP that gives me 25 MB of space for a personal web site. After only a few weeks, I have exceeded that limit and now find myself needing much more. My personal website will contain information of a bowling league that my friends and I belong to. I plan to have many pages of data from an Excel spreadsheet included, either in a database format, or just plain html. I also plan to have several family photos and some video on my web site. I will be adding pages on a weekly basis. I did some research and I felt I needed something like 25G of storage for all my pages containing tables and photos. Since I am not using it for business purposes, I am looking for something very basic, if that is possible. If anyone knows a decent host that can accomodate my needs, which is simple, but requiring a lot of space, please share your recommendations. My budget is between $5 to $10 per month.

UK IP Space
Does any know of any UK companies who do public IP space? aka putting a request into RIPE for some IPs (with justification). We only need a class c and we cannot justify the fees of joining ourself to RIPE. Getting IPs from our current provider isnt possible as we want our own IPs so if we ever moved away we could take the addresses with us without having to change.

Portable IP Space?
The last time I applied for a portable block from ARIN was about 7 years ago, and it was pretty easy to get when you could justify a /22. I'm just about to begin this process with my current company. Right now we're using a a /24 and 2x /23's from 3 different providers, and are hoping to get a portable block from ARIN. Basically needing a /21, do we stand a chance of getting a portable block, or are we still stuck getting our prefix from one of our providers?

Route My IP Space
what is needed is a dedicated server or colocation in which my portable IP space (a class c assigned to me in 1995) can be routed to in its entirety. We will then have a VPN back to our own site. This could be accomplished by the ISP BGP peering, or simply announcing the routes themselves. We've got clue in routing, both in OpenBSD and IOS. The machine doesn't have to be too powerful, and needs little storage space, but the bandwidth provided has to be decent. This is for a hobbyist rather than commercial project, so price is an issue.

How Is It A Waste Of Space
I'm starting to get annoyed with companies stipulating that is it considered a waste of space to store your own files, and backups or whatever on your shared hosting account. I don't understand why that is considered a waste of space you purchase that space and bandwidth. So why can you not use it for whatever you want in legal terms. In fact I would be confident to say I have not seen a single terms of service NOT state that you cannot use your space as storage.

VPS Space Available
I have a 30gb vps which I only have used about 6gb. This 6gb is a live site so if that means anything. I want to take 15gb of it and use it for personal ftp storage where I can access it at work and via at home so I don't have to always copy things to media discs. My question is that will doing that and just leaving 9gb give or take on my live site affect performance or anything.

Difference Of Used Space Between Du -hs And Df
I have a partition /dev/sda2 which is mounted to /webroot. Today, I find that I can't upload any files via IPB (running on lighttpd) So, as usual, I went on SSH and tried df in order to see how much space is left on the server: Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on <deleted> /dev/sda2 20641788 19483292 109856 100% /webroot Since lighttpd is running inside chroot, I thought it was the log files but even after I deleted them, it is still at 100% usage. Does anyone know how most hosters would handle this situation?A hoster has a customer with a certain config, let's say 2 servers and a firewall This customer anticipates growing, perhaps later in the year, and will likely add a number of servers In an effort to avoid migrations within the DC, does the hoster reserve space in the rack? Would the hoster charge the customer for said reserved space? I'm just wondering what standard practice is, if there is one.

Why So Little Disk Space
I've got a server in a local colo facility. both the facility and my server are slowly falling apart. Rather than investing in hardware and then shipping it to some location and hoping it doesn't break, I've decided to investigate VPS. What I am finding is puzzling me. Why do providers charge so much for disk space? My current old p3-733 has a 30gb drive, I could deal with about 15gb but with some 'flex' room (i.e. a virtual drive for uncompressing files or some such). It's a personal server for me and a couple of friends, it doesn't get much traffic, I don't need a heck of a lot of bandwidth, nor anything flashy, just Ubuntu 8.04. I see places offering plenty of traffic for a decent price, yet little in the way of storage. I just don't get it. A year ago I was here wanting to trade my class C for a dedicated server. I realize now that it would be pretty difficult for providers to do this, because if I wanted to yank my class c they'd have to renumber. But if anyone is still interested, let me know.

Where To Get FTP Space
I read an offer from a company a month or so ago that offered some plan where you were given a certain amount of space on an ftp server. I'm not sure if it was hosting as well or just ftp space. Then each month you paid $5 or something and for as long as you have your account with them they give you and extra 5-10GB per month. So your space on the server grows with your needs. Does anyone know the company? I can't find it anymore but I'd like to take another look at them.

Looking For Web Hosting For A Web Game
First I would like to start by explaining my past and current situation. When I was in High School I created a web game called Jinopets.com that was intended for me to learn how to Code PHP and to create things with a couple of friends. However, within 3 days the game exploded and receiving large amounts of hits and users by nothing but word of mouth. Before I knew what to do, my host said the price of my next month was going to go up from $5 to $50, and at the time I knew nothing about web hosting and was making (barely) enough money from Google Ad-sense so I gladly paid them to continue working on the game. As the site got larger, the host continued to ask for large amounts of money until I could no longer afford the game because the host was kicking me off of his hosting because I was simply taking up too much of his space. (I was going to link my daily usage data here, but apparently I have to post 5 times first to add links.) Now, there is more. I am NOT hosting the same game, but I am expecting similar numbers just increased a bit higher with a few differences. This game extensively uses PHP GD Image Functions to generate images for characters and map data. So I expect the server load to be much higher. But PHP GD Image Functions must be on the server, Which I do not anticipate to be a problem. What is the recommended solution for web hosting? I live in a fairly remote area and could not host my own server, but I am afraid of being removed from a hosting plan again after what happened last time.

Saving Space With Rsync
Just wondering if you guys had any resolutions to this. We are looking to save space on our rsync backups. I know you can use the --compress, or -z and it compresses data on the fly to save bandwidth but is there anyway to keep the data compressed so it takes up less space once it is on the server and still make it so it only copies over the file changes? If not, anyone have any suggestions on how to save space with rsync backups?

Unlimited Space And Bandwidth For 4$
while looking for a host I've found that there are many hosts that offer unlimited web space and unlimited bandwidth for very little money like 4$ per month and there are also expensive web hosts that offer limited but big webspace and high bandwidth for much more money. What am I missing here? If a big website like yahoo decides to buy that 4$ per month host and move there, what would happen? Would the bandwidth really be enough and not slow down? If it wouldn't carry yahoo then why do they say it's unlimited? I'm confused because I've heard about people spending thousands of dollars for big websites every month.

Disappearing Disk Space

Unknown Space Consumption
my friend has an un-managed VPS plan in kloxo-hypervm mode yesterday the stats showed in hypervm as the space was over used, so I personally deleted the processed stats which cleared around 20gb space, again today the space is totally consumed, I don't know why its happening and have no clue where are the other locations where the space could have been consumed i.e similar to location of logs or any other specs which could have been consuming space unknown space consumption - very high no idea how! its actually an image hosting site and I noted that not many pics and not much space was consumed in the pics uploaded in the last 24hrs but this really puzzles and troubles me as I am currently tracking my friend's VPS, please help me sort this out problem and keep my head high before my friend
