Speed Of My Site

Aug 22, 2007

I just bought a hosting on one of the American servers providers, so I am interested how fast my site loads at different locations around the world. Mainly I am interested in US, Europe and Australia. I am from Europe but, my connection is not so great
I want you input on how fast does it load on your end, and maybe how high ping is from your provider.

I hope there are some people who want to help me. I want post a link here because then people will complaint that I am advertising the site...

So if it is not a problem just post a message on this topic and I will send you a link true private message.

Thanks

Will Buying More RAM Speed Up My Site?

Aug 25, 2007

I run an online flash game website, which gets between 20000-40000 unique visitors per day. The website basically just hosts flash games which I upload myself. I have no forum, do not run any databases or have any major scripts running or anything; the site is just plain html and php includes (with images and flash [.swf] files also)

I currently have 512MB of RAM on my VPS. If I decide to upgrade to a similar plan on a Dedicated Server, but instead with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM, would that make my website faster, particularly loading time? (As some games are 5 to 10 MB in size).

Slow Periodic Site Speed (SLHost)

Nov 5, 2007

I moved from shared host to VPS a few days back. Since the move, the site becomes slow during particular time of the day. It appeared to be an issue of cron run by their another client and after promising that they would move that client to another node (I have spent more than 25 days to follow up on this till now) they backed off from their words but informed me about an alternative. Now, they say that the cron of that client was executing many scripts and they have spaced those scripts.

I am looking for a long-term host and was wondering:

1. VPS provides a minimum guaranteed stuff so what is the use of that guarantee if one client can make the server crawl (imagine 5 minutes or more to open a site).

2. Can a host be trusted who does not honour words.

Speed- At FDC ( Speed Tests )

Sep 14, 2007

I am having some serious speed issues with my 1Gbit server at FDC. After opening a ticket, they've simply dismissed it as a server configuration problem. However I am convinced it isn't because certain ISP's (usually universities) get good speeds, usually 700kb/sec but the vast majority of my users get between 20-50 kb/sec and it's causing a lot of complaints.

Furthermore I have other servers with FDC which are 100mbit which perform better than my 1 Gbit one. There are no server bottlenecks (CPU/RAM/HDD), since I've closely monitored them (PRTG) and they aren't even heavily utilised. So the problem is with the network at some point.

Speed Test : [url]

where abouts you are downloading from, your ISP and net connection. Wget's from servers are also welcome as are traceroutes.

Static Routes With Linux & Shorewall (site To Site VPN Virtual Private Network)

Mar 29, 2009

Attached is a (badly) drawn diagram of two sites, connected by a vpn.

The site to the left, is network 10.0.0.0/24 which runs a linux server as the router for the network.

The site to the right, is network 10.1.0.0/24 which runs a windows 2003 server as the router for the network.

Now, my problem is, the clients behind the windows 2003 server can ping any machine on the first network because i setup a static route to route all traffic to 10.0.0.0/24 over the vpn interface.

now, my problem is, only the linux server can ping any machine on the windows 2003 network, any client behind the linux server cant seem to route over the interface.

I have the following route on the linux server: .....

Plesk Automation :: Adding Dedicated IP Breaks Site (visitors Land On Default Site)

Apr 14, 2015

Starting point: a working site using a shared IPv4, dedicated IPv6, and SSL. HTTP and HTTPS work, the latter only using SNI of course.

The good news: If I simply allocate an IP resource of 1 to a subscription it is pulled from the pool, assigned to the service node, assigned to the web site, DNS is updated, and the site is automatically changed to using a Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6.

The bad news: visitors land on the default web site of the service node, with the default SSL certificate.

Other info: I can't ping the new IP, even though it shows in "ip a l" and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0. [edited]

After the IP assignment, it is still installed, and /etc/httpd/conf/plesk.conf.d/ip_default/domainname.conf shows the new certificate is being used.

However, a second set of VirtualHost entries is created in server.conf for this IP for ports 80 and 443, with NameVirtualHost enabled on the new IP. The port 443 entry uses the default certificate. Apache's setup this default VirtualHost entry will override the web site configuration because Apache is listening on port 443 with the wrong cert.

If I go to "Change webspace settings" and toggle to Shared IPv4, Dedicated IPv6 the site works again via HTTPS, and Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6 breaks it again. Setting the SSL cert to None and back again does not work.

Setting the SSL cert to None, changing to a dedicated IP, and enabling SSL results in the server being inexplicably inaccessible...browsers no longer connect to either the default site or the correct site, and I don't see any entries in the vhosts's logs.

Database Site Vs Comany Site

Jun 29, 2009

I'm on a short assignment to inventory and manage the fixed assets of a small company, and we've just bought a web-based database for this purpose. While I'm pretty good at administering/running local databases, the web part has me stymied. Our company is between IT people, and there's no one on site with any more idea than I have about what's going on!!

Here's what I have so far:

--The company has a website which I'll call "ourwebsite.org" -- which I think, from searching the IP address the website points to, is hosted by HostMySite.com.

--There's also a record in DNS Management with the same name (ourwebsite.org), but pointing to our little server's local IP address.

--I need to find a way to get my database -- which I can access on the network at (server's IP address)/database (ie 0.0.00.0/database) -- online. I tried creating records in DNS Management (for ex., assets.ourwebsite.org) that point to our server's IP (the one that, if I type it in on the network, I can get to the site I'm looking for), but get generic "can't find the page" or "can't connect to the server" errors, even after 72 hours, when trying to access it from off the network.

--If I browse to assets.ourwebsite.org/database on the server itself, I get to the website! But if I go to that page from any other computer, on or off the network, it doesn't work.

--The Server is running Windows Server 2003

So, what are my options? Do I have to talk to the HostMySite.com people to add this page? Shouldn't I just be able to use my server's name (ourcompanyadc.ourcompany.org) and have that route to the server? What's going on here! Is there a simple way to get a tiny local-server-hosted website online outside of the network?

Site Shows Another's Site After Transfer

Jan 9, 2008

I just transferred a domain from one cpanel box to another.

Now, that site is showing someone else's page. I've seen this happen before, but I cannot remember the fix.

the virtual host in httpd.conf is fine, shows proper IP, username, docroot, etc

Dns zone is fine as well.

The domain is using the server's main IP, so that's not the cause.

Centos 5 / cpanel 11 / apache 1.3 / php 4x

Best Speed

May 22, 2007

After reading tons and tons of messages on these forums... I have decided to get a VPS from KnownHost or SLhost.com.

KnownHost packages are a bit more expensive than SLHost (prepaying 6 months), however I am not looking to save a buck or two. I want the best speed for the money.

Can anyone tell me which of these two has the best performance (server performance and bandwidth performance) for the money?

KnownHost offers:
200GB Premium Bandwidth
256MB Guaranteed RAM Burstable to 768 MB
10 GB Disk Space
$5 - Control Panel
$402 per year with Control Panel

SLHost offers:
300 GB Bandwidth
384 Guaranteed RAM (Burstable unknown?)
20 GB Storage
4 IPs
Free Control Panel
$389.64 per year

Just trying to figure out which one would give me the best performance...

Speed Test

Apr 23, 2009

I recently setup WAMP on my dedicated, and I'm unsure if the slow download speed is from WAMP or something else I need to remove from the dedicated. Might just be the distance I am from the dedicated because it's hitting 88.74Mb/s down and 71.19Mb/s up from a local city.

It's located in Kansas city, MO.

Tcp/ip Tuning For Better Speed

Apr 11, 2008

i have this couple of windows 2003 servers, colocated in data center, i need to improve download speeds to our customers who are at least 200ms away, the end user is not using download accelarator,

is there a way that any settings to be done on server so that per thread speed can be increased, this case the server and client both have the ability to make a connection at more than a megabit speed. i did some search but all the articles point to end user and not the server saying to increase tcp window size etc.. not sure if those articles relate to server side changes.

Processor Speed

Mar 3, 2007

After reading a lot of good reviews on Softlayer around here, I was thinking about switching to them. They have some really good deals and I'm planning on getting one of their dual opterons, but I have a question about the processor speed in relation to database intense stuff (like a forum with a good number of users on at once, or a CMS).

I have the option of either going for a Dual Opteron 248 (2.2 gHz) or a 252 (2.6 gHz) which costs $50 more. My question: is the 252 really worth the extra money compared to the 248? All I have on my server is an IPB forum with 100-450+ users on at any given time, and a static site (soon to be converted to a CMS), and I'm thinking that RAM is more important than the processor for a database app like those (that, and hard drive speed). So I wanted to know if it would be better to go with the 248 and spend the money on more Ram and a SA SCSI 10k drive or two?
