Setting TTL To Higher Values?
Jun 15, 2009Why are there many people setting their TTL to higher values rather than lower ones? By setting it lower, won't it propagate faster?

RAM Usage Higher Than Normal
May 25, 2008Normally on our slowest day of the week, RAM usage is around 20%-25%. We see RAM usage increase as more users hit the site, thus, RAM usage historically, has been tied to public bandwidth. Recently, RAM usage has been hitting 32%-35% on our slowest day of the week (as indicated by bandwidth usage). I am guessing that something is keeping apache threads opened and/or a cron-driven process which invokes httpd isn't finishing for whatever reason. This is only my guess after some research and looking at whm reporting and top. With my limited server knowledge, these are only my guesses.
1. What could be causing this increase RAM usage?
2. How do we find out what is causing it?
3. We did recently installed the OpenX ad server but there are no ads being served, we just implemented the CRON job for testing purposes. Maybe this could be the cause but how do we tell?
How To Use 2 Windows VPSs For Higher Reliability
Oct 3, 2007In order to increase the reliability of a audio streaming service I am thinking to take the action I describe below.
1. Buy two Windows VPSs with WMS installed.
2. Register a domain name (i.e audiostream.com) with 4 nameservers: ns1.ip1_vps1, ns2.ip2_vps1, ns3.ip1_vps2, ns4.ip2_vps2.
3. Create all publishing points (streams) on both servers.
Normaly VPS1 should serve all clients. In case VPS1 goes down, VPS2 should jump in and serve all clients-connections. As soon as VPS1 becomes available (ns1 & ns2 start responding again), VPS1 starts serving all new connections.
Load balancing or any other kind of advanced load, traffic, etc management is not important.
Then we have the following cases:
1. VPS1 is down , which means that VPS2 should take charge.
2. VPS1 is up (ns, http, ftp services), but WMS1 is down (crashed). Means that the playlist (asx) file should be built so that it also includes the IP, port & publishing points of VPS2. This should be done because ns1 & ns2 will answer without any problem, but WMS1 will be crashed and won't serve any media connections, thus ASX will look for the next available stream in the playlist.
Do you think that the above is possible. Is this gonna work?
Which CPU For Web Server Tasks? Higher Clock Speed Or More Cores
Jan 8, 2009which type of CPU would be better for a web server that will run Windows, PHP, ColdFusion, mail, DNS, and IIS. Would a dual core CPU with a higher clock speed do better than a quad core CPU with lower clock speed? For instance, would a dual core 3 Ghz processor do better than a quad core at 2.4Ghz?

Now that would not be a problem if the requirements were not met, but there are installed PHP versions that are higher than 5.3 and the website is configured to us these versions...

Same as when we write a phpinfo file (that shows libraries, etc) to know php values..

In the older version of Plesk I can do it by linux in /etc/php.ini and restart the apache and all Domains will be load this configuration. But from Plesk 11 the settings are not loading from /etc/php.ini, only by the own php.ini file.How can I do it for all domains?

1. Point me to an article you can validate as being accurate; or
2. Explain to me as much as you are willing to the following question:
How would someone setup a CDN to compete with companies like level3/softlayer/peer1 etc..? What kind of software is used? Is there special routing issues to address? I do understand you need *at least* 15-20 nodes before you can offer a "true CDN" and I do understand that they need to be in different locations on the POP's. How do you stream files over the CDN as well? Via RTMP?

Setting Up DNS
Aug 1, 2007to add a new domain name to my hosting account, when I put in the nameservers at namecheap, my new domain resolves to the wrong IP address.
When I contacted my host, they told me I need to contact namecheap and give them the IP address and my namservers names.
I have never had to do this before. Usually I just add a new domain in my WHM and everything works. Right now namecheap is using my hosting companies nameservers, when I try to switch to my name servers namecheap comes back with an error.
I added new zones in the WHM for my name servers, but nothing is working.
What do I need to do to get this working? I have one current domain name that is working and one that is not.

I have read something little about managing VPS and can say that I want to use OpenVZ for that but that's all of my knowledge.
1. Howto setup VPS box (openVZ)?
2. Do I need leave free space/resource for "management" or can I use all space/resource for clients. I have my companys site and stuff in different server (as you can read above).
3. VPS box security? Do I need to worrie about that?
4. If I want to offer multiple OS options for clients, is it possible and how that is done?
5. Is there any "VPS control panel" for clients? For reboot, shutdown, re-install OS and such actions?
6. Do I need more IPs than VEs need (one per VE).

But i'm only wanting to use IIS for testing. Since i'm a newbie i'm unsure on some secuity aspects. Is it possible to use IIS for testing only, that is, no possibility of anyone else using it to access my computer?
