Overwrites/usr/bin/INSTALL, Do I Need The Original Back
Jul 21, 2008
I was trying to install some software before I really knew how. I copied some files over to /usr/bin and overwrote
/user/bin/INSTALL
/user/bin/README
/user/bin/PGK-INFO
Do I need those original files back or am I ok?

For VOIP traffic I am thinking of moving some servers from bay area to C4D.
I store all my server boxes so its easy to UPS them.
My question is if i wanted the servers to be shipped back from c4d in case of any reason in future do they keep the original boxes around to ship the servers back?

We have a server with a fine company, BocaCom. They are who the IP addresses are we use ultimately registered to. It seems we are being blacklisted by secureserver (isn't that Godaddy?) because the IP does not register to us for our outgoing email. It registers to BocaCom.
Is anyone else having this problem, and how to we get around it? We've contacted BocaCom and are waiting for their reply. Is this an IP issue or am I reading the secureserver reply wrong?

Dear Sir/Madam,
While there is indeed an rDNS record created for 72.35.xx.xx, it does not point back to the original A record. This will need to be updated before we can look further into unblocking the IP.

I have 2 different servers one with Plesk 11.5. and one new just installed Plesk 12.0, the 12.0 will not send emails out but i get them back to the inbox of the outgoing server. is there a fix for this as i have tried both postfix and qmail to send out emails all with the same result.
It seems that something has changed from version 11.5 to 12.
The plesk configuration is installed on Debian 7.7 OS

Many of the VPS providers I've looked at don't back up the servers that house the VPSs and as such don't back up the VPSs either - have you considered what would happen should the VPS itself be erased (such as what happened to vaserv/fsckvps not too long ago)?

I'd like to create a forwarding address, and not have the original account keep the mail - but without having to delete the original account, since I'd like to keep my existing emails.
For instance if the old account is apples@domain.com, I'd like to forward new emails to oranges@new.com, where apples doesn't keep the new emails. Currently in cPanel when I create a forwarder apples@domain.com=>oranges@new.com, new emails are sent to both accounts.

I have experimented a strange behaviour on plesk linux 12.0.18 Update #33
Basically:
1. I have recompiled Apache with more file descriptors
2. Several days later watchdog did not work properly. Support requested me to remove and install wd
3. I ran the autoinstaller. All my compiled version where replaced.
Watchdog is ok now, but I have to recompile Apache.
I have been searching on forum and kb but could not find any reoccurance.
Question : Is there a way to avoid this ?
Compilation performed based on article [URL]
after having executed /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller --debug
[root@ns7 scripts]# rpm -qa --last | grep "Sat 21 Feb 2015"
psa-watchdog-12.0.18-cos6.build1200140707.14.x86_64 Sat 21 Feb 2015 01:12:58 PM CET

However before proceeding further, i want to backup the entire vps ie the entire data in it.

I've always thought, and it is like that, that the back ups are part of any quality VPS Hosting service. But see this below. It is part of the TOS, listed by quite popular vps hosting provider.
"Your use of - - - servers and services is at your sole risk. - - - is not responsible for files and/or data residing on your VPS. While complimentary backups may be provided by - - -, you agree to take full responsibility for files and data transferred to/from and maintained on your VPS and agree that it is your own responsiblity to take backups of data residing on your VPS."

I want to set up a cron job to make daily back-ups of my database, but by turning my site off first.
This is how I envisage it to work:
1: rename '.htacess' (in public_html folder for the site) to .htaccess-open
2: rename '.htaccess-closed' to .htaccess
// this closes the site down so no-one can write/access the db (they are basically shown a 'site down for maintenance' page - I already have the code for this)
3: mysqldump --opt (DB_NAME) -u (DB_USERNAME) -p(DB_PASSWORD) > /path/to/dbbackup-$(date +%m%d%Y).sql
// this backs up the database
4: wait for 3 to finish
5: rename '.htaccess' to .htaccess-closed
6: rename '.htacess-open' to .htaccess
// this opens the site back upIs this easy enough to do? Anyone got any tips/pointers?

I would like some tips on how to create back ups with WHM/cPanel on a Reseller if you could.
Also where to store them?
I was thinking of storing them up on a VPS or Dedi server that just has backups or should I buy a enternal Hard Drive for my computer and store them on that? I have a 500GB Hard Drive.

how the backup in WHM works as far as data retention. For example, if I select the "daily backup" option, does
- WHM create a new backup for each day every day moving foward until the drive it uses is filled up, OR
- WHM creates a backup for each day of the week, overwriting the previous week's same day data.

I would like to make some kind of script (probably .sh?) that automatically takes a directory, makes a copy of it then makes a gzip tar and then shoots it over to an FTP server. I would like this to happen twice a day (ie. every 12 hours).

I am so mixed-up now that its hard to even figure out what i need to know, so let me tell you a story.....
It started about a week ago, when i first started on the server configuration module of my CIW course. I began to get confused concerning the topic of permissions and access levels in IIS 5. Because of this confusion i started to backtrack what i actually knew (or rather, what i thought i knew) about networks. I now find myself realizing that i am not even sure about the basic
types of networks. Anyway, thank you for your patience so far, and without further a-do here comes the obligatory questions.
I thought that a peer to peer network was any network without a dedicated server, so the hosts (computers) on the network communicated with each other directly. I also thought that once you added a server to the network, all the shares that were once stored on the individual computers are now moved to the server, and that the individual hosts no longer actually communicate with each other to access files, printers, etc.
However, now I am starting to think that i am wrong about this, and that the hosts may indeed still keep some shares on themselves to be accessed by the other hosts on the network.
It is this method of ACCESS that is confusing me.
QUESTION 1
Do the hosts now have to ask the server to fetch the shares on the other hosts, or can each host still have direct access to any other host?
QUESTION 2
A book i have states "a peer-to-peer network does not regulate user access from a central point". To me, this implies that using a server on the network somehow centralizes access, BUT ACCESS TO WHAT??. Does this mean access to the server that has just been installed, or that the server is responsible for giving permission for host "A" to connect to host "B" to access the shares stored on host "B
QUESTION 3
The same book also states (regarding user-level-access and some kind of access list)...."this access list can be central to a particular server or to an entire network"
WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN???
Does it mean that this list can be either stored on the SERVER (CENTRAL) or EACH HOST("entire network").
I hope one of you guys can figure out,at least, where i am getting confused because the more i read the more i seem to tie myself up

The issue is that a lot of my emails seem to be bouncing back at the moment with the subject 'Subject: Warning: could not send message for past 1 day'
Could anyone explain why this might be the case? I've had a look online and the only thing I can think it might be is that my email address has been gray listed. To solve this it was recommended to use a SPF Record.
I did not really want to start messing around with my DNS before I could get some confirmation that this is the case. Though if there is another explaination please can you let m know.
The emails that I have sent have all had pdf's attached to them.

Also in my shared server i got the server up and i can login to whm but my account doesn't work there also.
