Myspace.com Technology
Mar 22, 2008I really would like to know the latest info about the technology behind myspace.com. I can only find out about used hardware/software specs from 2006 or less.

View 4 RepliesMy friend has been building a myspace page for herself using our old computer and all of a sudden I've found multiple trojans, 1 of which was very tough to get rid of.
Could these trojans be coming from the little dealiemajigs (sp?) she's using to decorate her page?
I'm in the (very) early stages of developing a MySpace application and I'm looking for advice on hosting package needs. I've got an extensive software development background, but nothing at all web related, so I really don't know where to begin, and I don't want to shoot myself in the foot from the get-go.
I assume a simple shared hosting package would suffice for development, but I don't know how long or far it would scale, what the upgrade path would be, or what difficulties I'd encounter, so I'm here with this question.
I'd appreciate any suggestions whatsoever on what's key for this kind of application: package type, minimum data transfer, connections, cpu time, OS, database, language support, etc.. That includes any experiences anyone might have had, the host they've used and liked or disliked, or what they offer themselves (if that's allowed on the forum) and so on. Anything at all.
when I type in www.facebook.com or www.myspace.com I'm taken to the main page but millions of people do the same thing every day.
I have basic understanding of DNS but only for single servers and small websites. I don't know how these organizations link of the necessary servers so that their website is available to all.
How do you do Myspace Style Profile Name Mod Rewrites?
I have Mod-rewrite code turned on for Friendly URLS in options.
But for member profiles in .htaccess. I want it to look like this:
[URL]...
Instead of this:[URL]...
This way members can link friends to their profile easier.Â
Aspnix.com has offered Virtualization Technology on their dedicated servers - do you know what it means?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have done business with CPC Technologies for 4 years now. I have dedicated and colocated servers with 10Mb and 15Mb connections. The prices are pretty inexpensive, the speeds are as advertised and the service is fast. It's all that I need in a provider. They might have something good for you too. Check them out at cpctechnology.com.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have tried to search but couldn't find the information I was looking for. We are starting to offer VPS and considering MS Virtual Server and vmWare. vmWare seems rock solid and feature rich. Which virtualization technology you are using? Is vmWare a good platform for vps for hosting industry?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to distinguish a dedicated server from VPS using Linux commands and detect the implemented virtualization technology like XEN and OpenVZ, ...?
I have received a dedicated server and in cPanel its written Virtuozzo but they tell me it's XEN , beside this what's the reason to implement a virtualization technic while they give me a dedicated server? Maybe to obtain cheaper cPanel license,
Having some issues with the shoutcast plan I ordered yesterday as well, the wixed site seems to have gone down for a while this morning as well. I hope this is resolved soon.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI sometimes wonder if part of the reason hosting companies "oversell" or promise more than they could deliver if all customers used the resources they were offering is that technology continues to offer more.
For example if they have 500 GB drives on their server now, but know that they will be using 1 TB drives in 6 months, do they go ahead and offer plans as if they already had the 1 TB drives?
Any one ever hear of or use Waveform Technology? They are 30 minutes from my house, I could just drive the server over to them.

Anyone colocating in Suwanee care to share their experiences?
View 10 Replies View RelatedCurrently my companies global website “domain.com” is hosted in a shared hosted environment, our own U.S. website “us.domain.com” is hosted at our datacenter.
Here is my question, we have a redesign project. My goal is to lose the “us.domain.com” sub-domain and move our new U.S. site under the "domain.com" domain using a “/us/” folder delineation.
Is it possible with modern web server technology to setup a something like virtual directory/folder, redirect, alias or remote mapping of the “/us/” folder that points to a separate server hosting our U.S. site outside of shared hosting environment for our "domain.com" site, e.g.?
• Domain.com/<global website content/structure > - Hosted at in a shared environment on Web App Server running Coldfusion
• Domain.com/us/<U.S. website content/structure> - Hosted at our datacenter on Web App Server running IBM WebSphere
Unfortunately I cannot merge the two sites together based on the web server technology and lack of budget/resources to accomplish.
Any one know of a place offering dedicated servers with VT Technology enabled?
Any one know of a place offering dedicated servers with VT Technology enabled in the bios (and cpu that supports VT), so I can create Xen VPS's on it?
There seem to be strong forum rules in place about the kinds of posts that hosters can make.
But from my perspective it is somehow leaving a large gap in useful information I would like to know that I can't quite put my finger on right now.
So I would like to get responses from Windows hosters in this thread without violating any forum spam guidelines and I sure hope I'm not wasting my time here with this concept but here goes...
So, the topic:
Ultimately, the thing Windows Web Hosters are providing is the delivery of information that has been constructed by developers using program code they have assembled using a large array of mostly .NET technology.
The reason the Hoster is providing Windows hosting is that a sufficiently large enough population of Web Developers have been attracted to some aspect of the Windows technology stack.
And there is certainly lots of innovative and interesting technology that attracts developers to focus on .NET in just the same way that there is also interesting technology in the Linux world.
So here's the problem. It appears as if the Windows hosting companies with the odd exception have almost no interest in Windows and .NET technology.
But if they actually did have such an interest, it is not clear how they would communicate it for discussion here at WHT because of the spam rules and of course trying to communicate anything at all about hosting on the general internet is just swamped by spam. The noise level is just insane!
So I am hoping that such a discussion can take place in this thread by asking some very specific questions:
1. What interesting Microsoft technology have you researched, tested or played with lately?
2. What programs or scripts have you personally developed lately to investigate .NET 3.5 features?
3. What do you think of XBAP delivery from the net and why do you think it hasn't caught on in a larger way since it sure delivers a richer client experience than Flash or even Silverlight.
4. What do you think of Azure and will Microsoft let hosters be part of the cloud anytime soon? Can you think of useful or interesting Azure mashups from a hosting perspective?
5. Have you tried any totally silly and insane things with the .NET runtime inside of SQL Server 2005/2008 that would give your DB guys a heart attack?
6. Have you tried out the Google systems where you give your employees 20% of company time to play around with personal projects like this?
