DNS Trouble When Trying To Set Up Addons In CPanel Account
I'm trying another cpanel hosting service in addition to one with which I have a main domain and a bunch of addons. I'm used to being able to create the addon accounts regardless of whether I've already changed the ns for the domains being added yet. In the new service I'm trying, I am unable to to do that, but instead get an error message which appears online in various forum posts: Quote: Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: exampleIP 1,example IP 2 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver. With the hosting service where I can always create the accounts any time, I use a secure login that contains my account ip: [url] I will only do secure logins, and not any unsecure http logins. The other hosting service where I am unable to create the addons does not appear to have that available for my normal account url or ip, at least it doesn't work when I've tried, but after searching I found out that you can get a secure login in another way, so I am able to securely log into my account using [url] but this is not the same as my account's IP or the normal shorter url for my regular unsecure login. I would guess that's the significant difference which allows me to create accounts any time in the first account vs. not at all in the second - that I'm using my account's normal ip for the one, but the longer-than-normal secure urls for the other (?), although I don't fully know how that would work. There is however, one significant difference in the second account which I do not have in the first, and that is that I have SSH access in the second account. So, I am wondering if there is a simple method for using that SSH access to change a setting in my second account in such a way that I can have the same freedom to create addons there first and then attend to ns changes and so forth later when I'm ready? Especially is there a way to do this only once for the whole account, instead of having to do it for each and every addon? Thanks in advance to those who might really know the score on all this stuff and exactly what the best solution or solutions are.

Set Up Cpanel Users To Use Different Partitions (home Dirs)
Is it possible to specify where your CPanel user's data is stored? Let's say I have four hard drives without RAID, I have hard drive one on /home, hard drive two on /home2, hard drive three on /home3, and so on. Is it possible to setup users on the different partitions to spread out disk usage? To explain further, I would like to set it so maybe one reseller account was using /home2, then another was using /home4, and another using /home. Any ideas on how to go about splitting up user's data across seperate partitions?

How To Set DNS Server To Point Subdomain To Cpanel
I am using a cpanel for my site. While I am not using the nameserver of the cpanel hosting for my site. I am using a 3rd party DNS server to handle the DNS thing. I directly point www/ftp/mail/... A records to my site hosting's IP address. And everything works well. But there is a problem, I don't know how to set up subdomain. I created a subdomain with my site cpanel. And it automatically created a root directory for the subdomain under /public_html. ( .../public_html/subdomain/) But I don't know how to make the subdomain work. How to set the DNS records to directly point my subdomain to its root directory on the hosting? I tried to add a A record for my subdomain. But it only direct the subdomain to /public_html the main domain's root directory. Untill now, the subdomain is still pointed to the same page as the main domain.

DKIM/DomainKeys And You
how everyone else approaches DKIM and DomainKeys. I'm starting to see a lot of implementations now and have recently started adding DKIM and DomainKeys verification to my outbound mail. Two things strike me: 1) The number of DKIM users also adding DomainKeys 2) The number of DKIM and DomainKeys signed domains that remain in test mode. Example, Yahoo! and Amazon. My questions: Do you still use both DKIM and DomainKeys? If so, why? Do you leave your domain in test mode? Or are you fully confident of your implementation? Currently I support both, but dropping DomainKeys seems like the right thing to do, DKIM is the way forward, so can anyone tell me why I should still do DomainKeys? Is backward compatibility important? Interested to hear others opinions.

SSH Keys
I'm having a problem with SSH keys (they don't work out of the box correct with cPanel) I bilieve the error is in my sshd_conf, but if someone could assist me with what settings that should be uncommented that would be helpful. Anyways, just some history of what I did so far: Generated a passphraseless key within Server(A1). Took the public key (not the private, left the privat on the server itself) and transferred it to a file authorized_keys on Server(B2). Chmod that file to 600. Then ran the following command: ssh -v -i /root/.ssh/authorized_keys -p 1234 root@xxx.i.p.xxx First I still get asked for a passphrase (which is wierd since it's suppose to be passphraseless), then when I just press enter (to signify that there is no passphrase), I get the following error: Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-with-mic).

CentOS 5, CPanel 11, Kernel Buggy
(The box, 2 years now, never had issues before all you will read...) I do have a box at the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, which on 15th Nov. was: AMD 4200+ with 300 GB hdd for OS, and CentOS 4.5 on it... Because the system was facing few load problems of wrong installed applications, we decided to do a fresh OS reload to the latest OS version and cPanel. on 16th Nov, the box was up and running with CentOS 5, and cPanel 11. the kernel is: 2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 After few hrs the box was done and IO restored all backups in it anbd all worked fine, I realized that I couldnt access cPanel, page was blank for everything. Also, most pages (except simple html) where showing internal error 500. I did a reboot. probelm was fixed. After few hrs, problem came up again... I left ssh logged in to see whats wrong. I found out that every few hrs, that issue was happening: Message from syslogd@server at Sun Nov 16 11:47:21 2007 ... server kernel: journal commit I/O error Then, we had techs to check HDD for errors. they did fsck, and said disk has to be replaced (at this point, without wanting to offend anyone, I have to state that 90% of techs in datacenters, or at least at mine --won't name them, 99% you guess which DC it is...-- are just low paid students that don't know SIMPLE things...) so we told them to replace the HDD and do OS reload in new drive... So, on 17th Nov. we had online a new HDD, 400 GB with CentOS 5 loaded in it, and cPanel 11... After few hrs and all working and backups recovered, the issue came up again! This time, with exactly same error, techs told us it may be RAM, so they replaced the RAM and we waited... In 2,5 hrs, bang, it happens again, same error. They say, it might be the sata cable... we replace it... AGAIN ERROR. we ask them to loook at it seriously, and after lot pressure, to avoid case that mo/bo or controller is wrong, they do upgrade us in a BRAND NEW colocated box, which was this time: Intel Core 2 DUO, 6300, with brand new 500 GB HDD and new RAM. We recover in the new box the backups. Box is online today at 18th Nov... and the issue comes up again! Message from syslogd@server at Sun Nov 18 11:47:21 2007 ... server kernel: journal commit I/O error I ask them what the **** is going on now and why after having all hardware replaced with new, and all OS reinstalled clean on new drives and new devices, 3 times, why we have again the same error... And their response: power cable was loose, we replaced power cable... Guys, sorry, this is really DUMP... loose cable cannot give that error... and the error... continues! Also, at this point, I have to let you know, that when this error comes up, (Message from syslogd@server at Sun Nov 18 11:47:21 2007 ... server kernel: journal commit I/O error) the filesystem becomes READ-ONLY and nothing gets affected, if we do a cold reboot by reset button, it comes up again and all work PERFECT, until the issue comes back again..... I am desperate with that, let me know what I have to do!

Tutorial To Use SSH Keys Instead Of Password
A Short tutorial to use SSH keys instead of plain password to login. 1. Logon to WHM and goto Main >> Security >> Security Center 2. Under "SSH Password Auth Tweak" and disable the Password Authentication. 3. Under "Manage SSH Keys" click on Generate new key. 4. Give a Key name and Generate a good password (remember it). Choose KeyType as DSA since it's more secure than RSA. 5. Once done, you will see a pair of public private keys. Authorize the public key to connect. 6. View/Download the private key to your system. If you're using putty it can also generate in relevant format. 7. Save the key in a secure place in your local system and chmod to 600 so that no one can read it. 8. Next, connect to your server: Code: root@localhost ~]# ssh -i /path-to-file/file.key root@server.ip.address It should ask for the password, if you have used in step 4.
