Add Domain Via Direct Admin
When I introduce myself as a newbie, I do not exaggerate. Hope to slowly change that, thought. I have recently rented a dedicated server from worldstream and have paid for a lifetime usage of Directadmin. My goal is just to host my own site. Now I am trying to transfer the my domain to this server. From what I can tell, I need to change the DNS for the domain from it's current DNS. In the Directadmin control panel under "DNS Administration", I see "Add Zone" which I assume is the step to take. Under "Add zone", it asks for (1) Domain name (what format would I enter this) (2) IP Address (I was supplied with three IP's when I signed up with worldstream. Do I just pick one of these?) (3) Name Server 1 (Unsure of what to enter here) (4) Name Server 2 (Ditto as above) I realize this is quite basic for most.

Well what i can i say that direct admin is really pain in the ass, twice i asked in their forum but it was queued for moderation then not published. i'm having a problem setting up my domain 100% correctly. let me explain more: Before 1 or 2 weeks, i re-build the server and installed direct admin, but its really harder than other panels and i couldn't figure it 100% how to do, my website now is running but i have the following problems 1- domain name can not be solved by all people. when i try to ping it it says its not resolvable, while the domain opens for most of users except for very few which gives an error saying can not connect to server 2- i get this error when using intodns.com [url] while everything else is ok 3- some of users in some countries access home/admin/domains/sharedip/... while others access home/admin/domains/mydomain.com/... which is the correct one, this causes problems but i temporary solved the problem by uploading files into both folders

Direct Admin With Server
Just been thinking and currently i host all my services with other hosting companies like my web hosting accounts etc...but was thinking of buying a DA licence and installing it onto one of my linux servers. On DA's website it says one licence per IP or something along them lines...does this mean if i was to install a licence on say 99.99.99.999 and it was working ok etc but then if i changed my IP range to 99.99.99.998 would that mean the DA licence would no longer be valid?

Direct Admin And 64 Bit OS
I am trying to install Direct Admin on Cent OS 4.5 ( 64 bit ), but i am constantly getting library files error, one after another, Example - ./directadmin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory then ./directadmin: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory then ./directadmin: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory goes on ......... But if i install 32 Bit library files (RPM), for them, they vanish and next error comes, with new file missing I have tried loading 10 RPM's of 32 bit, but i cant go now forever... Is there anyway to install Direct Admin on 64 Bit Cent OS? Is there any 1 RPM file, which i can install and then Direct Admin wont give library problems.. ?

CPanel To Direct Admin
I don't start a CPanel vs DA war, but need to get a "what might be different" list re a VPS. When I got my present VPS (moved from shared hosting) I had it initially set up with DA. All my previous experience had been with CP on my shared hosting account, but I had read about CP being a bit of a resource hog. When I tried to set up my VPS, I got it wrong. I ended up with 2 instances of "mymainsite.com" on the server. I got so confused talking with support and their UNIX lingo, that I had them switch to CPanel. I'm probably going to move to another host and thinking of using DA to save RAM. I'm not a reseller of hosting, just have 20+ small to very small sites. I have a number of mySQL databases that get a fair number of queries. I have 1 vBulletin app but the traffic on that site is VERY low. So what will I need to learn differently in DA? -cron jobs -parked domains -migrating sites -backing up sites

Direct Admin License Costs
I've just had a quote for a VPS that seemed good value for money until the cost of a Direct Admin license was added ($15 extra). Looking at DA's pricing the cheapest license you can buy is an internal license (in bulk) which is available to server providers only at 9$ a month. If that is the case why is it that quite a few providers in the offers forum are providing DA for 5$ or 6$? As these licenses are being offered on low end VPS with tight margins anyway, I can't understand how they can afford to make a loss on the control panel (if they are in fact).

Direct Admin & 123-Reg
As in recent threads i have posted about getting a DA lifetime licence within the next month. I currently get my domains from 123-reg but i am just wondering if someone could help me or if they have an answer to my question! If i bought a domain from 123-reg and then got a lifetime licence from DA and had it installed onto my server what happens to the nameservers? Like when DA install it onto my box would they sort out the nameservers for my domain aswell like ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com or would i have to pay extra for them?

Direct Admin: Php Mail() Only Sends Email To Certain Domains
I am currently setting up my server, and are experiencing some problems. How do i forward requests to [url] to [url]? I have usermin control panel running at https port 10000, but hosted customers have trouble rememembering the port address, hence i want to provide simplified url to all hosted customer so that whenever a customer types [url]or [url]he is forwarded to [url]. I have a number of domains hosted and need a global mod_rewrite rule or whatever that can be specified once in my apache httpd.conf file and it should work for all hosted domains on my server.

Domain Name Not Work
We registered a domain: ediblebackyard.com and have set up the account in a dedicated server. However, web page in this domain won't show up I believe I've setup everything okay becuase I've setup several other domains in exactly the same way, for instances, transframe.com, 3dtime.net. They all work but only the ediblebackyard domain refuses to show. I performed a domain name search, other domain shows the name server as well as the IP address. But ediblebackyard.com only shows the name server but no ip address listed. I use Plesk in the dedicated sever. Is there anything possible wrong when I create the account for the domain?

Domain Name Doesn't Work Even After A Week
My main domain is working perfectly but when I want to add a new domain name it doesn't work. I usually go to addon domain, choose a directory that matches the name and create my addon domain. Getting Www.domain.com To Work, Domain.com Resolves Correctly, Just Not With Www
Okay guys, a quick question for all the gurus out there. I'll admit I'm a bit embarassed posting such an easy question, but give a guy a break, I've been using managed servers for god knows how long and I've finally decided to take a dive into administration. Everything is firewalled and secured properly, I'm just having trouble getting the ServerAlias to work right. What happens is I go into my browser and enter in [url]walaa! It works. Now, when I enter in [url], it does not resolve. I have checked with "dig" the domain settings and it looks as though all of the nameservers are set up fine, this is an apache problem. I'm running apache 2.2 on Ubuntu 7.10 for all those who are interested. Does Level3 have a monthly minimum of some sort? I currently own a dialup internet service provider, buy through a dialup reseller that mainly uses the Level3 managed modem service, and would like to deal with them directly if possible. Disabling Direct Download
I have a website which has a FLV player serving .flv files which are hosted in the server. I notice that some users are directly downloading the files using the direct URL and they seem to be using download managers for that which is opening several Apache connections and open slows down Apache. I want to prevent this. I thought of preventing it using a .htaccess file but did not help. This is what I used: <Files *> order allow,deny allow from 127.0.0.1 allow from localhost deny from all </Files> I thought this would work but it doesn't as it is blocking the FLV player from playing the file. Can anyone tell me the right way to do it?

Old Address Direct To Porn Sites
I had a site with admo.net. To my surprise the name registration was done in their name and not mine so domain name cannot be taken with you. When your hosting date expires the domain was directed the day it expired to a porn site without a renewal notice or warning. It was not until after I requested the name only renewal that a renewal email arrived. The date on the renewal was marked due over 10 days after it had already expired. In the mean time all the visitors looking for me were directed to porn links.

im able to login to root via SU perfectly One problem: All my old files and folders are owned by ROOT so that means my SU account named XXX cant edit/add/delete anything from my SFTP because of folder/file permission. Is there anyway my SUDO(wheel) account can still edit these files own by ROOT?

Disable Direct Root Login
I tried to disable direct root login but had to struggle to find step-by-step instructions and have written the steps one needs to follow to disable direct root login. This is an additional security measure where we prevent direct root logins and instead create a user to login and then use a command ‘su –‘ to gain root privileges. The only risk in this procedure is that you may prevent root login but forget to add the user to the wheel group - effectively locking yourself out of the system. Follow the steps below and you will not face a problem. STEP 1: Let us create a user and add it to the wheel group. For e.g. we want to create a user neonix and give him root privileges. SSH into your server as root and follow the below commands to create a user. groupadd neonix useradd neonix –gneonix passwd neonix enteryouruserpasswordhere verifyyouruserpasswordhere // Please note -g in the second line // You can replace neonix with any username of your choice. STEP 2: Add user to wheel group. Use your browser to Login to your WHM panel and click on Manage Wheel Group Users. You will see the user you just added (neonix). Select the user and click ‘Add to group’. You will see that the user has been added – Users Currently in the wheel group root,neonix You have successfully added a user to the 'wheel' group who will be able to 'su -' to root. LOGOUT OF SSH Before we disable root login, let us check if the user can login and su – to gain root privileges. SSH into your server as 'neonix' Login as: neonix Password : enteryouruserpasswordhere su – password: enter root password here You have successfully logged in and have root privileges. Now let us disable root login. STEP 3: Disable Direct Root Login (The below steps are from webhostgear.com) 1. Copy and paste this line to edit the file for SSH logins pico -w /etc/ssh/sshd_config 2. Find the line Protocol 2, 1 3. Uncomment it (Remove #) and change it to look like Protocol 2 4. Next, find the line PermitRootLogin yes 5. Uncomment it (Remove #) and make it look like PermitRootLogin no 6. Save the file Ctrl+X then Y then enter 7. Now you can restart SSH /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd restart Now, no one will be able to login to root with out first logging in as 'neonix' and 'su -' to root, and you will be forcing the use of a more secure protocol. Just make sure you remember both passwords!

I use a login script on my hosting site. and i was wondering if there was any way or any program that would allow me to Block people from going mydomain.com then cpanel? And forcing them to go to my site to use the cpanel login script on my website? Im sure that if there was a way to disable Cpanel login it would aslo block the scipt on my site. I am just thinking about getting back into the business since they always say, once your in you can never get out. I am just looking for a little bit of opinions here. My first question is that I would like to make a shared/reseller hosting site where I can sell LxAdmin Hosting. I beleive that this would be one of the first in the industry, but if you know any sites that specify in LxAdmin Hosting, if you could let me know, i would like to take a check at them. Next, do you think this would have any success. The reason I beleive it would be good is because it would be a cheaper cost for the server, therefore it would be cheaper to purchase on the users end, and they would get more for their money.

SSH - Only VPS Admin
I've recently picked up a position that is *mostly* web development, but they would also like me to learn how to admin their server, which is a VPS running the latest stable v. of Apache. The kicker is that there is no web-based control panel. It all has to be done via SSH. I've been given the server IP address, my own login credentials, and su root password (with an admonition that root login is not permitted). I have a number of questions: a. how do I determine what software - and what version of that software - is on the VPS (e.g. php, etc...)? b. how do I set up web hosting accounts on the VPS? c. once a web hosting account is set up, how do I set up FTP user accounts? d. how do I set up mysql databases? e. how do I set up e-mail accounts? All of this has to be done using SSH only.

Mailserver / Admin Required
I'm having some serious issues.. I moved to a new dedicated server company and found out that the IP block I was on was blacklisted with 5 anti-spam lists. However, the company is great and they have managed to get the IP block out of every single black list. However, I am still having issues. My server does not seem to be listed on any blacklists but emails sent out to various places, get bounced back with the following types of errors. Any suggestions or advice? SSH / Server Admin
I am using putty to get SSH access to my server. What I need to do is create a backup of a directory on my server and then get that file on my computer somehow. I do not have FTP access and don't know how to set this up. I do have HTTP on the server but i get a 403 forbidden error when I try to access the file via my browser. I need help ASAP. OpenVPN Unable To Login To Admin
I have installed openvpn in my vps. OS:Centos CP:Virtuozzo Now the main problem is that I was never able to login to admin after installation/configuration i.e [url] This is admin url, I have contact the openvpn but they have not yet supported much they say I have to enter root password. WHMSonic Shoutcast Admin Pro
i'm still not too sure how to put all this together, And im starting to feel stressed out I think i need a dedicated server with cpanel/whm installed on it before i can install whmsonic and start selling radio streams with hosting right? How much is this gonna set me back if i want to create a lot of accounts on one sever, I am aware that you should only put so many accounts on one server. I want to be able to offer the extras to the users so if they are not using their account for live shows they can use the auto dj features plus they'd have their web space for uploading audio. And all the good stuff that comes with those features. An example of what i'd like to offer is on sleepy engineers. I just don't know if i have to get all this seperate and put it on a dedicated server mysellf or if there's servers ready with all this installed and ready to use. And i don't have a lot of cash to start out Im thinking 100$ per month to start with. I like cast control's features, but i've only used whm/cpanel before, for setting up web hosting accounts. Most reseller packages put me off it's never really my own service.

Server Breach - One Time Admin
we have a server that was breeched and is being used to send ddos attacks to another website and we need to stop it permanently and secure our server to avoid it from happening again. My tech has already been able to track down the bot/script that was sending it and seemed to stop it for about a week, but they have gained access to the server again. He is not an expert at security issues so I'm looking to hire someone for a one time job to correct this issue. Can someone offer me some referrals of someone to take care of this. Please do not recommend Rack911 as I waited nearly a week for their assistance and had no luck.
