Why Is My Internet Working! :S
(schematic available at [url])
I am building a new network here, and I have built all the infrastructure servers and built the firewall server (as well as connected it to the internet), just for testing, I have allowed all traffic to anywhere.
Now, the firewall is set up so that it has the DNS for the router (192.168.0.1) on the internet NIC, and on the internal NIC it has DNS set up as 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 (FYI, DMZ is blank, but the mahcines on DMZ have the same .2 & .3 set)
I can understand why internet works from the firewall machine as it is getting DNS addresses from the router, however I loged on to INTERNAL1 (the primary infrastructure server), which for DNS, only has itself (and the .3 machine as backup), and I can get full internet... It fully 100% works.
I can not understand this! the dns server that it has does not have ANY fowarders configured, however the websites I visited appeared in the cache just fine.
So, My question is, how on earth was I able to connect to the internet... it just makes no sense to me

TurnKey Internet
I recently placed an order (based on an add I found while browsing this forum) for a quad xeon. Everything went smoothly and their live support was very helpful. About 2 hours after receiving my confirmation I received an email containing a credit card form. The form is asking me to fill out everything I filled out during the billing process (including my credit card number, security code, and bank number). I know this form is basically a contract so they can bill me if I go over my bandwidth limit, but it seems pretty odd. Is this a normal thing or should I be weary about filling this out?

Solid Internet
My site/e-mail/etc that is hosted by Solid Internet has been down for almost 2 weeks. This is causing me some major problems. Their support forum doesn't work, their phones go straight to voicemail, their voicemail inbox is full, they don't respond to e-mails or support tickets. I'm not sure what else I can do to find out what the problem is? I've only just renewed for a further year too so I'm not overly keen on flushing all that money down the toilet. I don't think I have any site back ups, certainly no recent ones so I don't want to lose everything which I assume I'll need to do to move to a new host?

Wholesale Internet HAS THE WORST BILLING SYSTEM / CUSTOMER SUPPORT SYSTEM EVER It has been 3 months and I have yet received my refund. If your server is up then its fine but I have contacted Aaron (great guy) 30+ times but he's always busy Here's the issue. In ubersmith we have paypal + a spare credit card running. I setup a paypal subscription so I was to be billed automatically. Ubersmith however was not tracking the subscription payments and instead billed our credit card. This left me with double the charges for 3 months on my credit card and paypal ... I have asked for a refund since September and have heard NOTHING. I have vouched for Wholesale internet plenty but if this does not get taken care of Aaron I will be chargebacking every single charge for the last year ... maybe that'll get your attention The billing department = Rebecca - a woman who neither answers the phone nor emails

Wholesale Internet ..
We aquired a dedicated with wholesaleinternet a few months back. Other than slightly annoying but very short periods of downtime several times a week there were no major problems. Then the server became unreachable. After many hours I finally get a tech response to my priority TT stating a fsck had to be performed. My initial worry was that the HD was failing as huge sectors should not be corrupt - certainly no software was running to cause this. Over the next 2 weeks the server went down every 24-48 hours with exactly the same problem and the same resolution. Each time it took over 4 hours for a priority TT to be responded to and for the problem to be fixed. 8 hour waits were far from uncommon. After pointing out the HD worries several times (what else could it be at this stage?) 2 weeks later the girl 'looking after the problem' finally agrees with us and agrees to replace the HD. I drag off any data I need (ie since the last backup) in a brief period of uptime and give her the go ahead. The server goes down again and over 48 hours later they tell me a new HD has been installed. BEFORE the server went down for the final time we made it very clear that we simply cannot wait any longer and had no choice but to cancel our account. This was ignored and the HD changed anyway. We also made it clear that the huge problems caused should mean that there was no way we should require a month's notice to leave them. The downtime, huge delays in responding to priority tickets and inability of tech staff to recognise a simple HD failure means we need to go elsewhere. The downtime has cost us a LOT of money and several very good google results still have not recovered so the cost to us continues in a big way. Despite the 2 weeks of more or less continual downtime causing us to have no choice but to switch hosts they now have the audacity to send debt collectors after us for not giving 1 months notice. On cancelling the account my reasons were made very, very clear and that given the situation I would not expect to need a months notice and certainly not to be charged. So my advice...look elsewhere. There are some very professional companies about with competent tech staff and who give a damn about even their lower end customers.

BQ Internet Corp.
I have used BQ Internet (bqbackup) for a dedicated server backup for months... On one occasion a while back, I started getting the now infamous "out of space" error message. They fixed it, that time, fairly quickly telling me it was because they were "changing servers..." Now, for the last two weeks, their server is telling me it's outta space, and I am getting absolutely no response from them whatsover... I have sent emails using my regular email accounts plus sent emails using a gmail account. Are they in some sort of trouble or something? I guess I am going to have to look for another rsync backup provider... "Offsite" backups are extremely important to me and my customers, and not having it available for two weeks is completely unacceptable.

Wholesale Internet
I've been with wholesale internet services for a few months now and I must say working with Aaron (when available) has been a pleasure. However, working with anybody else on the team...Billing Departement I'm looking at you has been a COMPLETE Nightmare. I orderded an extra IP Subnet range only to take it days (more than three) and a few tickets later to order. Their Billing/Sales department takes days to answer. I then cancelled my services and was confirmed cancellation only to find out today that I've been billed and my credit card has been charged. Not impressed with this incompetent operation. Aaron you do a great job but your team is nothing like you! I have yet to receive an e-mail back from sales about refunding me the money for the current billing statements. I'm creating yet another ticket now in hopes that somebody there responds. The server was fine as was the network, never had any issues, but the lack of support for billing was not.

Wholesale Internet
I decided to let everyone know about WholesaleInternet (wholesaleinternet.net) company and how people from this company treat clients. 2 days ago my server was taken offline. After contacting support team, I was told someone was hosting phishing page. However, they didn't send me any email. I asked them to send abuse report for me. As soon as I got it, I told that I will remove bad site from server as soon as they will activate server. Since then they just ignore all my tickets. Server is down for 2 days, I have opened support ticket and all my requests are ignored. Phone support is total 'scam', because I always here same message 'We can not answer your call' for 2 days. I understand this company is being managed by single person only, but I didn't believe it's so awful. My server is still down, and I have no idea what to do next. They even don't allow me to remove bad site or move all sites from server to another provider. And yes, I also PMed Aaron via this forum, but he just replied 'Abuse has the impression that you are intentionally using the server for illegal activities. I looked at the ticket and I can see why they think that especially when you tell them you will move the phishing site to another server.' Then he started ignoring all my messages too. What abuse team!? Company of single person has abuse team? Sure... I can't believe that moving site to other server (after removing phishing content from it) is treated as illegal activity by Wholesale Internet. Well, I lost hundreds of dollars already, and it looks I need to start everything from 0 (because company just ignores me), so the only thing I can do - tell everyone RUN AWAY from this awful provider as soon as you can. Because if someone will hack one of your customer accounts and upload phishing page, they will destroy your hosting without any questions asked. I will post more detailed review about this company later, including screenshots from my support desk, etc. So if you think getting a server with them, think again!

Internet Network
I am about to build the company network and I have some questions to know what I am speaking about with the company we will hire to do the job, so I would like to ask some questions, being sure here someone skilled will be able to help me. The current company network is made of two optical fiber with each one it’s own router and ISP behind. I am thinking about to take a third ISP and ask for our own /24 PI, rather than current two /25 PA we have with each provider. I would like to setup a highly available Internet link. Most probably I will ask a third provider to offer us the /24 PI and use it as main provider and use the two others to feed and to help us to reach high availability as BGP4 is able to balance over different networks. It is not impossible to tweak performances later with OSPF protocol. The total maximum (theoretical) speed would be 150 Mbit/s for the 3 links together (but pushing as it will probably never happend), current peaks are more about 30-35 Mbit/s. So I have some questions : - Do we need to get an AS to achieve this? - Is Foundry Networks NetIron NETIRON MLX-4 or NETIRON MLX-8 good for this job? - Will we be able to push (in case) up to 300-400 Mbit/s with this wheel (over 3 providers)? - What is the approximate price of such wheel? - What else do I have to think about? At this time, I am only interested about the Internet network. The prority is the availability and not the speed, but it would be good to do not have to change machines if the average traffic to Internet is going to double in 1 year.

What Is The Best Solution For An Internet TV
We are a group who are working on an internet TV project. We are hoping to achieve over 4000 viewers at the end of next year. We are trying to see what would be a best solution: Should we buy the bandwidth and server up front and work our way up to the objective or should we start small and buy a bandwidth dedicated server for the start. I would appreciate your guidance about how to build such a server and how to buy the bandwidth and also the cost for such a thing.

I have also noted one of our servers is consuming too much memory! How can I detect if our server was hacked or is any worm running inside our network?

Why Can't I Get To My Webpage From Other Computers On The Internet
so i already have a registered domain name (www dot guiceassociates dot com) which has a DNS record with an authoritative DNS server linking my domain to my IP address 70.91.50.213 (nslookup using "www dot guiceassociates dot com" or "www dot guiceassociates dot co dot uk" will confirm this). I have a linux computer(it is successfully running apache, php5, and mysql, and the firewall has http services as an allowed service) that i am using as my webserver. i have statically assigned it the ip address 192.168.200.3 My router is configured to forward port 80 traffic to 192.168.200.3 however, when i type www dot guiceassociates dot com into a browser window from another computer, i get nothing (cannot connect to server) I'm still new to the idea of hosting my own web server, so any and all advice is welcome, but my ultimate question is: why isn't this set up working?

Vps @ TurnKey Internet
first off i will start by saying, as you can see.. this is my first post. Normally i just browse around, but i had to sign up and post a brief thread, about the awesome service i have received over at TurnKey. A few weeks before christmas break, i signed up with Turnkey VPS, which was quickly setup. I've never really worked with a vps before, or much with servers at all really. But their prompt and detailed explanation of how things work inside the control panel really helped me out. Then, a week after christmas break, with the economy going south, i had got laid off from work. I sent them an email saying that i wished to cancel cause of my current job status, and was suprised to see that Adam, their president had emailed me back himself and offered me a 90 day free run till i could get back on my feet. and if at the end of the 90days i hadent got on my feet, i could cancel completly. Since then, my job had announced that it would only be set backs and not termination - so i still have my job, and i dont have to cancel anymore!

Solid Internet Servers Down
I have been a client of SolidInternet for exactly 7 years back since they were Myacen. I was able to deal with the fact that their customer service was less than desirable. It was a little better as Myacen but SolidInternet seemed to adopt the philosophy that customer service was less needed. I was never able to access their forums because it would not allow me to register. For months ever since they changed their site I have not been able to access my account page. So they started to automatic bill me. I did not make a big deal of it because for the most part my site was staying up. NOW, there is a BIG problem. My site has been down since early Monday evening. TWO of their servers (server 4 and server 8) were down in red on their server status page when I checked up until Tuesday night. Since then, they have removed their support page (and server status page) and replaced it with a page that says "Back Soon." They have also removed their live chat which didn't work once you entered it anyway. I have emailed them twice at sales@tw.com.au and msn@solidinternet.com since Tuesday night to request SOME kind of update as to what is going on. NO response. Is anyone else aware of this problem? I am very close to switching hosts. 7 years ago I signed up with Hostpacket and they had only a few people running it until eventually the owner abandoned ship. I chose Myacen because they seemed to have a good track record at the time and good package. Now I get the feeling their level of support has been short staffed as well and it seems like now they just don't care. Does anyone know anything about what is going on with SolidInternet or experiencing the same problem? Is there anyone from SolidInternet on this board able to give an update as to why two of their servers have been down almost 72 hours? As far as new hosts I am looking into the following: hostgator, 1and1, ixwebhosting, dreamhost, hostmonster, godaddy. I'd love to go with pair.com but they don't offer enough and are expensive (except for the fact that they do provide great customer service and uptime from what I hear). I want someone with a long track record and good customer support if needed.

BQ Internet Corp Typical
I've had my account less than 2 months. In that time, my account was actually usable, a couple of weeks. I've now been waiting for a resolution to the "Out of Space" errors for nearly 7 days. The most recent communication was this morning (one of only two responses in 7 days) stating that he would "try moving your account to a newer server. I should have another update later today." It has been 6 hours since that message and still no resolution. BQ has a very good reputation around here. So, I was very hopeful that they would live up to that reputation. However, 7 days to resolve an issue doesn't seem all too responsive to me. Apparently, I'm not the only one who has experienced this same problem of delayed responses and slow resolution. webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=682152&highlight=bqbackup.com+out+of+space Before you ask... yes, I used the correct email for support. So, I have to ask... Is this typical of the support that I should expect? If I have to ever restore my data, will it take a weeks to resolve any issues that I may experience?

Starting An Internet Radio Station
I'm just a simple web designer at a non-profit organization in Canada. We are planning to start an Internet Radio Station with approximately 500 max simultaneous listeners and would like to seek some advice from more experienced people regarding this topic. We do not have a set budget as long as the cost is reasonable. After much research, I have ruled out using full service providers like Live365 because of the huge costs involved in maintaining the service. Running a server in our office as the stream source is also not a viable option because our allowed upstream will not support up to 500 listeners. So I am left considering between two options: 1. Paying for a AutoDJ streaming service that will host and stream our music to a streaming server. 2. Paying for a VPS and install all the necessary applications involved for running our own AutoDJ and stream it to a streaming server. This is were I am unsure how to proceed. Option 1 would be the easiest, however, I am having a difficult time finding a service provider who offers AutoDJ applications. I have only came across one I'm comfortable with using so far. Option 2 seems the most cost effective, but I would have to go about installing all the applications required to run an Internet Radio station and I'm unsure how to go about doing that. The general idea I got was that I will need to install a streaming server application and a source management application. So I was looking at IceCast for streaming and Centova for management. Will this be all I need? and how difficult will installation be? Am I better off paying for installation?

Slow Internet Connection To Our Website
For about the last two weeks I've had issues connecting with the website that I help run www.learnoutloud.com from my home connection which is Time Warner Cable Internet connection in Los Angeles. I'm on a Dell laptop Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP. I'm always able to connect to the site but what's happening is the page will get hung up on loading a single image usually and then it will take about a minute just to load that last image. And sometimes the page won't load at all, but all it takes usually is hitting the refresh button and the page loads instantly. I was hoping this issue would just go away, but it's been persistent after numerous restarts of our cable modem and switching from wireless to plugged in and so forth. And it's really only happening for our site and no others, which is just puzzling. At our office on our DSL connection our site loads fine and we haven't had any customer complaints about the site loading slow like this. Our traffic numbers have stayed steady so I don't think it's a global problem connecting with our site. At home I conduct a trace route and it looks good: Tracing route to learnoutloud.com [72.34.53.155] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 5 ms 5 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 15 ms 13 ms 12 ms cpe-76-170-64-1.socal.res.rr.com [76.170.64.1] 3 12 ms 11 ms 9 ms 76.166.6.77 4 11 ms 12 ms 12 ms tge9-3.bwlaca1-rtr2.socal.rr.com [76.166.1.6] 5 11 ms 12 ms 16 ms tge9-2.bwlaca1-rtr1.socal.rr.com [76.166.1.4] 6 14 ms 15 ms 47 ms tge2-2-0.lsanca1-rtr1.socal.rr.com [66.75.161.20 1] 7 15 ms 18 ms 25 ms xe-8-1-0.edge3.LosAngeles1.Level3.net [4.78.195. 189] 8 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms ae-12-69.car2.LosAngeles1.Level3.net [4.68.20.4] 9 16 ms 15 ms 25 ms INTERNAP-NE.car2.Level3.net [4.71.36.78] 10 15 ms 15 ms 27 ms border1.po2-bbnet2.ext1.lax.pnap.net [216.52.255 .86] 11 16 ms 38 ms 25 ms insiderh-2.border1.ext1.lax.pnap.net [63.251.209 .106] 12 19 ms 29 ms 18 ms 72.34.41.10 13 32 ms 18 ms 18 ms 72.34.53.155 Trace complete. Botnet Hosted At Wholesale Internet
Been having an annoyance lately, This kid has been ddosing a site on my server for 3 days. It has absolutely no effect on the server besides filling up iptables rules and annoying the crap out of me with ip ban emails. So not really a problem as far as knocking my server offline but the guy has been trying for 3 days and its annoying as heck. So I got someone to track the net down for me its located on 208.110.** port 5050 and port 5520. I will post the full details if it is ok with mods So I emailed their abuse the other day, no response, tried calling, nothing but answering machines. Nothing has been done. This guy must really have some connections inside datacenters because I was seeing where he had botnets on fdc, they got reported and fdc sent him the abuse reports so he could attack them some more! [url] Yes this really happened and fdc even protected the guys identity by editing his name and info out of the complaint post Anyway, I get to talking to some other webmasters, he has had his botnet on wholesaleinternet a few months now. It has been reported repeatedly with no action taken, no one can even get ahold of anyone at the datacenter. So either they just ignore the same abuse report for months or they know exactly what he is doing and dont care. Either way they wont shut him down for nothing, Ive sent reports to the registrar today, lets hope they are the ones to take action. And hopefully someone who works at wholesaleinternet will see this thread and finally be shamed into doing something. or if anyone knows anyone who works there please pass this on.

VT6 Internet 3 Month Review
I have now been using VT6 Internet for 3 Months using their VPS services. I can highly reccomend their services to any and all people. Support: The support staff are excellent, Their not a one man show, Ive dealt with well over 6 different techs, and they all know their stuff and have been extremely helpful over the last 3 months. They are available 24/7 and that really is 24/7 not just a claim, I have had problems being looked at and solved at 2/3AM and solved within minutes Service: VPS: I have 2 VPS servers with them, One in the UK and one in the USA, I have only had 1 outage that was planned to make a node upgrade and they notified us well in advance and the upgrade was performed at off-peak hours meaning none of our sites would really be affected. The upgrade took about 10-15 minutes and we were back online within 20 Minutes after everything had rebooted. Both their UK and USA nodes are quick, reliable and best of all not oversold. Overall: I would give VT6 20/10 for service and support, They are always on hand to help you and you can rest assured a job will get done and will be done quickly. I highly reccomend VT6 Internet and hope to continue using them for many more months to come

VPS Connected To Network, No Internet
I have a Windows Server with Virtual Server 2003 R2. I also have a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise virtual server on the box, this is more of a test. I have 4 IP's on the box, so I decided to use one that I don't normally use. I set it up exactly like my host network is setup, and I start it up. It's connected, has the IP, but it's not transferring any packets, but it seems to be connected.

Windows VPS Slow Internet Through RDC
With Remote Desktop Connection download/upload speeds seem to be capped to barely anything like 50 KB/s. But going to speedtest.net (still in remote desktop) the server reads like 3600 KB/s. It seems like my host is smartly throttling my connection. Is there any way to get around this?
