View 3 RepliesI saw on Pacific Rack they have a section where they offer Rent To Own (RTO) servers. This is what I've been looking for and would like to know if any other host have this kind of offering?
From what I read from the site, RTO servers feature server financing over a set period of months, allowing a capital strapped customer from the initial large expense of purchasing a server. RTO server's are subscribed to as dedicated servers with part of your monthly payment going torwards the cost of the server. Once the set period of months has been reached, the server ownership is transferred to you. You then convert to a colocation plan, benefiting from asset ownership. Once you own the server, you can do what you wish with it, including having it shipped to you. (taken from PR website)
basically the have the best global speed. my friend tell me i should find server with this NAPs, but how?

I was wondering if there's any web hosts that offer 3D graphics cards in their hosted dedicated servers? they don't have to be that great of 3D graphics cards just better graphics than the normal video cards that they usually put in them?
View 14 Replies View Relatedobviously a (relatively successful) shared host would have multiple servers hosting their different clients. But they'd usually have all their client's setting their domain's nameservers to just one set of DNS (i.e. ns1/2.hostsdomain.tld)
Would you set this up via a DNS cluster? I.e. on a cPanel/WHM following these sorts of instructions?
For some reason I never can fully get my head around DNSes, so apologies if I ask any silly questions thusly.
With the above in mind, say your billing system sets up a new client - say it sets them up on SERVER2 (the host's second server for hosting clients). The DNS records would automatically be synced to the name server, right? And then, when someone visits the client's website/domain (with nameservers ns1/2.hostsdomain.tld) the 'hops' would roughly go:
Client's domain >>
Host's name server >>
This 'forwards' the 'connection'/request to the client's website files on SERVER2
Is that about right? And if the name server and SERVER2 are hosted in physically different parts of the US (say), would this make each request slower since it involves hops to two different servers before the client's files are shown?
Our website is based around a customer based chat system. Customers are only on the system during a particular day and time range. So for parts of the week the server gets almost no traffic. When then time for a chat comes up we get hundreds of people on the site all doing page requests every few seconds.
So as you might imagine we are bringing the server to it's knees with heavy CPU and memory loads. Plus bandwidth usage is really high. We are currently on the biggest box that Rackspace has to offer. The site runs ok on it during these times. It's a little slow but not unbearable.
But we have not hit our max customer base. In fact if all goes well we will double our customer base next month. So I know when we do we will bring that box down totally.
I was thinking about possibly trying a cloud/cluster based approach but after some research on this site I have found that is probably not the best option.
So I am looking for advice on what to do? Is there a better host? Different technology?
Servers are not my thing really so I could really use some help.
No we can't change the way customers access the site or when they access. There is nothing that can be done in that regard so don't suggest it.
I'm looking for a reliable hosting provider with a well-connected network and a responsive customer support team. I like my current provider, but they can't handle DB clustering, SANs, etc.
Details are below. I would provide all of my own OS and DB software. Suggestions based on first-hand experience would be appreciated ......
I am planning for an architecture for the cluster of shared hosting servers. I intend to run around 10000 websites initially on Linux as well as Windows servers. I am planning for a load balanced setup and failover cluster with SAN or a similar storage solution where all the data will be stored. I am looking for suggestions on the best possible architecture which can accomodate all the above things. Also I need to know what are the best options available for load balancers and clusters.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI was looking at Godaddy's grid servers and it says you can have unlimited concurrent connections:
[url]
With dedicated servers if you wanted to have 2 million concurrent users you would need hundreds of dedicated servers in a cluster, but Godaddy grid hosting can do this for $4.99/month:
[url]
Of course currently give users unlimited compute cycles so if they start charging it could increase the price but godaddy don't charge for ram. Of course if you needed more bandwidth you can buy more.
Sure, Godaddy grid hosting doesn't allow videos on your server(embed's allowed) but you wanted to have a website that was at the top of digg and worldwide media outlets reported it, Godady grid hosting would be great for this.
So i guess if i had to choose between a dedicated server and godaddy grid hosting for a forum, i would choose grid hosting because i can have unlimited users online at the same time and not have to worry about cpu load.
Ok, I'm a few lost about which dedicated server to choose.
First, I need 2 dedicated servers. These servers are only to download static content.
Downloadable files are small (50-400k).
I'll use lightweight server.
If there are too many user, I'll buy another server.
I search for excellent uptime, US server and fast download server.
I've visited some popular web hosting but if you know better, lets me know
1and1
Price (Root Server): $99
CPU: Single Core AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
HD: 2 x 160 GB
Bandwidth: 2,000 GB
Bandwidth Cap: 100 Mbps
GoDaddy
Price: $68
CPU: Celeron 2.0GHz
RAM: 1GB
HD: 1 x 120GB
Bandwidth: 500GB
Bandwidth Cap: 10-20 Mbps
Also, the price between 1and1 and GoDaddy is $31 but 1and1 give more on cpu, hd, bandwidth(4x), connection...
One of my question is 1and1 offers a average price for dedicated server or GoDaddy spends a part of money with Amanda, Candice and Danica?
Do you have some suggestion for dedicated server or web hosting?
Offering Ruby on Rails on a regular shared environment server. I can easily install this but the question is, should I install it?
Is it going to use up a lot of server resources?
Should I dedicated one server alone for a Ruby on Rails installation?
Is it worth installing? If you have used ROR in the past, what is your experience
regarding it...does it raise conversion rates?
my friend install VMware on his server to run vps, it looks likely interesting, do you use VMware to offer vps?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI need a VPS with Cpanel/WHM/WHMCS or iHost.
Looking to spend around 25 - 40 month.
The must allow free hosting with legal adult content.
Right now i am with a reseller and the are abusing their downtime.
Hi everyone - I'm looking for a dedicated service provider (US based) that can provide at least 256 IP addresses on a per server basis
I would also like the provider to offer 100mbit and preferably 1Gbit connections. If possible I would like to keep my costs under $200 a month, not sure if that's realistic but ya never know.
Total storage and data transfer limits aren't really an issue.
I found a company server . lu that provides a /64 IPv6 allocation, which is mindblowing - but they're europe based so that won't work.
i know 100/10 port can offer 100M max,
but i see a article say the performance of 100/10 port usually can not reach 100M,
if it can reach 50%,it is already very good.
because a user want to rent 50M bandwidth from me,
i worry if my switch may really reach 50M on the 100/10 port for him,
my firend ask me had better use a 1000/100/10 port for the case.
my switch is d-link des-3526.
thinking about it's to find some solution for offer 100% uptime for my customers.
Actually I have 4 servers running cpanel, my idea it's to setup another server where I put 4 VPS with a copy of the servers, and in case them fails, I up the VPS.
Real dedicated server will be ns1.
And the VPS will be ns2.
What I don't know how to manage it's the cpanel license, because if I want to have a copy of the servers in VPS I have to pay that licenses sure?
Also, today I see the DNS ONLY cpanel, could be better option? I'm also testing some cloud systems like mosso cloud servers and gogrid, but this don't allow me to be 100% and free of hardware failures.
And yes, not 100% because it's impossible, but 99,9999999%
I'm currently doing close to a 25,000 daily unique average on my site and coming close to 12TB or monthly bandwidth transfer. With most DS Hosting services, I would usually be offered virtual rack solutions with multiple machines that would help raise my monthly limit but it would be greatly cost effective if I just stuck with one powerful server that offers unmetered bandwidth at a great price.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMost dcs offer 1-25 ip addresses... looking for some that offer 100-300 IPs.
Let me know any you have used, or any recommendations, or any places you know of that offer several IPs..
My justifiaction would be for SEO and SSL (As each SSL cert needs its own IP) -- a lot of datacenters don't like to give out more IPs, so I need some more lenient ones.
When will Hostgator offer windows hosting, they have had a Coming Soon on their site for AGEEEEESSSS...I am waiting to transfer over from existing host as I have another cpanel account with them and they do a good job.

Unnoficially, I host many of my clients through Go Daddy- and I don't make a cent off it.
So I want to become a reseller, but I want someone else to do the support. What are my options?
The datacenter I am looking at to colo does not offer Plesk at all.
My only option is to buy direct from Plesk, however I was wondering if there were companies that did external licenses of somesort.
I'm hunting for a decent dedicated server and I see all the major resellers, but NONE of them offer sql server 2008 web edition which microsoft put in place to make sql server more affordable for internet facing sites.
I see great deals on dedicates, but all only want to offer sql server standard for a couple hundred a month, when microsoft has updated their plans for 2008 to make it more affordable with web edition
i was wondering if sharkspace offer free domain reg? I don't seem to find it explicitly stated on their website but when signing up, they offer to register a domain.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just spent three hours digging through a pile of hosting companies trying to pick one, and although lots of them looked nice, were recommended by plenty of people and cost a reasonable amount they required 6months-a year up front. Some of them had a money back guarantee for 30/45/60 days, but what good is that if I have to cough up $60-100+ bucks to decide for a month?
So I'm looking for a list of companies who sell hosting monthly, not just at a monthly fee figured from the bigger time frame you pay for.
I'm planning to run a VPN service provider, but I'm not good at the technical side. Can anyone suggest a dedicted server provider who also can setup the VPN server?
