I have a small but somewhat popular space-history website. Very simple HTML that I typed into wordpad, but it has long pages full of photos. Since 2003, I've been using media3.net with their business-class Windows service.
A few weeks ago, mypages were hacked, and a one line script inserted that called an Adobe Flash file. Apparently this was a server-wise attack, not just my web pages. Media3.net cleaned this up, but now it has happened again.
This is bad, because Google blacklists my site, and folks on Wikipedia get upset because there are a lot of links to my site.
How are they breaking in to media3.net? I think I must change hosts, but I don't want to put my image-intensive site on overbooked hardware with limited bandwidth.
So I'm interviewing with a company and when I typed in the URL to their website, I was met with a nasty surprise: a "hacked by so and so" message! However, after looking closer, I see that I had accidentally appended a period (".") to the end of the domain name, for example: http://www.example.com./
When I removed the period, the site appeared as normal. I don't know anything about the server other than it's IIS. Is there anything I can suggest to them when I go in to interview? I'd like to point this out to them; it may even help my chances at landing the job! (It's not related to networking, though.)
Just this week, I believe one of my site has been hacked...or potentially my whole server! When accessing the website (a vBulletin forum), instead of going to the main page, we get a screen that looks like Window's "My Computer" and there is a scan running. Firefox has blocked the site for suspicion.
I am stumped. Where to begin? I have full SSH access to my server (after rebooting it). Thank you in advance.
I have been getting a lot of abusive email lately, just deleted them and thought nothing off it. Just about to go to bed and I see my website has been hacked.
www.pic-spot.com
They also said they were after www.anotherlaugh.com and www.shinyproxy.com
few sites are continously been hacked, these sites i m working on, whenever i connect the sites through FTP client(i m using Flash FXP) and upload the files the very next day the index file have the Iframe code written after the body tag by someone else of some malware site.
i have tried everything, changing the password on daily basis, even reinstall my system completey(thinking if there any backdoor trojan) firewall and antivirus,
We have a simple flash site. Not CMS or anything of that sort.
Recently out site was hacked. Nothing malicious as the only code that seems to have changed was out index file in which they injected a malware script ....
This is the second time this week that my website was hacked. On the first hack attempt they somehow got into my cpanel and corrupted my license file which I had my host fix. Other than that the only damage done was an html file that replaced my main page. Then today, I find that my website has been further compromised, but by a completely different group. The first hacker was g3n3t1x and this second hack was done by www.turkishdefacerteam.com
Now, the problem is my sites dedicated IP is 72.36.192.150, and my domain name is gamingguilds.net, but if you resolve the domain name, it resolves to 74.53.52.66. I have checked my nameservers and everything is set properly. But the thing I don't get is that when you type in my domain name in a web browser, you see my website. How can it be resolving to the wrong IP and STILL show my website. Also note that when you type in my dedicated IP it would still show my website (before this second attack).
Now after the second attack, my dedicated IP no longer works, I cant get into cpanel using the IP, I cant get into my FTP account, and I get view my website. Yet if you use the domain name to log into cpanel or view the website it works. The strange part here is that I can't get into the FTP using the domain name.
SO, if you go to you see a blank cpanel site, if you go to you get a 404 error, and if you go to www.gamingguilds.net you get my website.
my server was hacked by Cold he/she inserted a couple of scripts that enabled remote access into a 777 permission folder.
i found the following script names: back.pl cpanel.php cgitelnet.pl cpanel.pl gcc-cold <- shell script
i have deleted all the above files, and changed the folder chmod to 755
but the weird thing is, through shell, when i try to locate the file gcc-cold i get this:
Quote:
root@ [/tmp]# locate gcc-cold /home/ns5f6/public_html/uploads/gcc-cold root@ [/tmp]# rm /home/ns5f6/public_html/uploads/gcc-cold rm: cannot lstat `/home/ns5f6/public_html/uploads/gcc-cold': No such file or directory
isn't locate NOT supposed to find that file after its been deleted? and if it was not deleted some how, isn't it supposed to delete it? am i missing something here??????
from a bit of researching the files, i found that it was a telnet script, BUT i have telnet disabled, and there's no process running along side GREP TELNET
how can i find malicious software or shell scripts that allow such hacking activities on the server?
regarding the speed of loading my website. How do you find in terms of speed of my blog? Is it slow? - My blog: mangochico.com
I am contemplating in changing host as I believe my current host isn't up to par when it comes to loading times.
Tell me what you think about the loading times and if you happen to know a good, reliable and fast host please list it below so I can take a look at it and see if it fits to my needs.
Many gurus and seasoned IM'ers alike have said that you actually don't need any technical knowhow to set up your business. But no sooner have you started than you realize that it's not the case and you have to get up to speed very quickly.
Just a couple of questions here, if I may:
1. What advice would you give to someone who has just purchased a new "unlimited" domain and knows diddly squat about all these technical issues?
2. I was reading what someone else said about add-on domains vs using Apache to redirect the add-on domains.
- what is the best way to actually set up your site so that you can have 1 main domain and then a bunch of others?
-should you rather use redirects (whatever that means)?
-What is Apache?
3. What is WHM?
Your collective help would be invaluable....
I just want to be able to set the thing up correctly....
Hotmail doesn't work. The email filtering technologies are still broken 18 months after the original problems were found with their implementation. And now it looks like they've stopped supporting it.
Seriously, does anyone know if the email filtering team at Microsoft has just given up on responding to requests and complaints? We've just deployed two new servers and both are blocked for delivering email to clients Hotmail/MSN/Live.com accounts.
The following steps have been taken:
1. Our DNS has been tested and checked using DNSstuff.com services.
2. Our server IP addresses checked to ensure they do not appear in any blacklists.
3. rDNS correctly setup for hostnames and mailserver names.
4. All our email is signed using DomainKeys.
5. All our domain names have published SPF records.
6. All our domain names have valid abuse@ and postmaster@ email addresses.
7. We have emailed senderid@microsoft.com notifying them as requested on postmaster.msn.com of our published SPF records.
8. We have even completed the senderid support form providing further notification here:
9. I have contacted the technical support team using the contact form on witn absolutely no success.
Two weeks later I've made no progress whatsoever beyond receiving a request to complete a survey rating the non-existent support I have received. (No human has responded to any of my messages) And all our messages to Hotmail are still disappearing into the email filtering black-hole.
At this point I'm starting to wonder if Hotmail is even usable as an email service anymore. I doubt many people will be bothering to jump through all the hoops I am to resolve this issue. I dread to think how much legitimate email is getting caught up in the Microsoft email filtering black-hole - never providing any notification or information to senders their messages were not delivered.
Meanwhile, our email arrives perfectly in Yahoo/Gmail who both pass our SPF records and DomainKeys signatures. Oh, and we're not engaging in any email marketing practises (i.e. spam).
I am going to buy a Shared host for the first time. I am currently considering big hosts because of my bandwidth requirements are high.
I am considering Dreamhost, BlueHost, HostiCan, and most preferably HostGator.com
I have heared a lot about hostgator and saw many persons praising it, but when i was going to buy it, i accidently saw a few sites on google giving bad remarks about the HostGator.
I am now looking for a Linux based Mapserver host (I learned that there is no such thing as Windows based mapserver host).
So we have convinced our client to look into Linux. I found a few Linux based Mapserver host... but they all look very fishy (No physical address, telephone number no longer in service, missing pages, no reply on my email...)
I mean, EVERY single mapserver host seem like they are being run by a school kid.
Does anyone know a real professional Mapserver host (Linux or Windows)?
I have had an account with a small UK hosting site. Now about two days ago I submitted a ticket to them here we are and no reply yet, I even emailed the admin, yet to no reply.
I have a forum hosting script that generates a forum for you when you sign up. It NEEDS to be in the public_html directory, its one of the requirements of the scripts and it will not work without it so it must be there, and thats the basis of my whole site. However, the CMS they include with the forum hosting script is very bad, and it would take A LOT of work to get my current website design to fit to this forum hosting script.
I want to install joomla, a CMS my website template is made for. I want it so that when users go to my website they see the joomla page instead of the crappy forum hosting script's webpage. I will just use a wrapper and wrap the forum hosting signup page into joomla.
However, the files conflict such as folders and configuration files, so I can't put them both in the same directory and I really don't feel like making a subdomain for joomla or putting it in another folder as I know that is bad for SEO.
Is there anyway to make the joomla site hosted in another folder and then appear on the frontpage when someone goes to www.mydomain.com
I have been with Page-Zone for a couple years now. Just the past year I have had little problems with them.
-For instance once I was trying to update my website and their server went down. I thought it was something on my end so I started trouble shooting it for an hour and then it came back up.
-Another time the users on my website were without e-mail for a week, because they changed IP address.
-And finally the e-mail accounts couldn't receive any e-mails from Comcast, MSN, or Hotmail accounts. So I ended up setting up a Google Aps account for us to use for e-mail.
Granted they are very cheap but I have been having many problems with little support. Also today I just noticed that in the whois it lists Network Solutions as the technical contact. Are these things that I should be looking for a new host for?
What difference in page load time does it make if I move away from GoDaddy hosting? Or doesn't it make much difference? If it does make a difference, what kind of percentage improvement are we talking about?
I am trying to host a website from my home computer. Currently I have it setup and it works and everything. I have my virus database updated, router update, firewall up and running, and I am ready for people to try hacking. But there is one thing I can do. I can't seem to get my website online. I go to whatismyip.com and try that IP address on both the computer I am hosting the website from and a different computer downtown but I can access it. I am currently using webs.com to tell people to download COMODO EasyVPN to access my website. But they have to download it first to be able to access my website. At one time I had to load it using the IP address I go to whatismyip.com but it took it six minutes to load and with the EasyVPN it only takes seconds. I am just wandering if my internet connection is just timing out and not letting anyone on. Is there a software I can use that works like COMODO EasyVPN but lets you type in my External/Public IP address and it go to my website. I mean my connection is slow but with the COMODO EasyVPN software it makes people connecting to my computer fast. I need a software that tunnels my connection to a clients computer.
I've had four different hosts in 1½ year, and I'm noe experiencing problems again with my current host, Lunarpages. Therefore, I really want to make the right choice this time. It would be such a pleasure to see my website run without any problems for more than just 8-9 months at a time...
Anyway, let me try to describe it. It's based on the Content Management System phpFusion. It has news, downloads, forums and screenshots. The site itself is c. 2 GB large (because of forum attachments and screenshots), the download section is c. 15 GB, and the site use up about 700 GB og bandwidth each month. In the forum, there's 100.000 posts, growing day for day, of course. We have 12.000 registered members, but we only have c. 50 members online at the same time -- maximum. Throughout a week, 2.000 members log in, but as said, they are never online at the same time. The members are mostly from Europe, but we do also have members from USA and Australia.
I've had both Lunarpages and Servage as hosts, but I have experienced problems with both of them. Servage has a daily bandwidth limit which I had overlooked, and the website constantly exceeded this. Lunarpages is very, very slow when using a MySQL DB.
I'm not familiar with hosting issues at all, and I'm planning to set up an affiliate webisite for online gambling. Hostgator, which after reading the posts on this forum has been my choice doean't accept affliate webistes.
