Are there companies out there that allow unlimited emailing capabilities on a VPS server? What kind of budget would be best to get this capability? Am I better of going with a dedicated server?
I'm new to Private Virtual Server and the package offered by different company are quite confusing.
I was on RackForce and their basis VPS package dds200-L can host 100 domain names on Plesk and unlimited domain names on WHM/Cpanel.
On 1and1 it didn't say if Plesk support 100 or unlimited domain names. My question is, do we always have the liberty to host unlimited domain names on our PVS?
I have received quite a few emails from senders claiming to be the recipients [in this case one of my email accounts]. I did not send these emails. This is happening with almost every email account I have setup on one of my domains.
I know this is probably an easy fix-- I am simply unsure of what it is.
I noted that someone else recently posted a similar question-- with only one response. I wanted to see if another post my garner another response.
I've just designed a site and the company have just told me they have their own mail server.
I've never touched mx records before as I've always had mail collected on the server which hosts the site so this is new territory for me.
What's got me a bit stumped is where are the mx records controlled - with the domain registrar, the hosting company or both? I've gone into the account and changed the DNS MX records with the hosting company (Cpanel). I've double checked I've done it right with the hosting company and they've said it seems fine... But it's not - I keep getting failed deliveries:
xxx@xxx.com SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO: <xxx@xxx.com>: host company.mail.server.co.uk [88.88.88.88]: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for xxx@xxx.com
(email, server, and ip edited out)
The hosting company did say it might take some time to propagate, but I have a hunch it isn't going to work.
Now, I've got a couple of different registrars I use and one of them lets you edit mx records directly while the other one doesn't... Which leads me to think that you can control the mx records with both, but the domain has priority?
I have one domain that is having issues sending e-mail from any php forms, etc. They do have their MX records pointing out to a different service...is there anything special I need to have them do in order for this to work?
Also, do I need to check or uncheck "Always accept mail locally even if the primary mx does not point to this server."
Although it's only twice a day, it's quite annoying. I have two almost identical file servers, one however sends me an email at 2:46pm and 6:00pm everyday. The first email looks like this...
Updating /scripts... Sync Source: [url] Fetching [url] (0)....@69.90.250.34......connected......receiving......Done Fetching [url](0)....@69.90.250.34......connected......receiving...26%...53%...80%...100%......Done Fetching http://httpupdate.cpanel.net/cpanelsync/RELEASE/scripts/unsetupfp4.bz2 (0)....@69.90.250.34......connected......receiving...100%......Done Got file ./unsetupfp4 ok (md5 matches) Fetching[url](0)....@69.90.250.34......connected......receiving...37%...74%...100%......Done Got file ./pkgacct ok (md5 matches) Fetching [url] (0)....@69.90.250.34......connected......receiving...100%......Done Got file ./eximup ok (md5 matches) Fetching... and it keeps going. It looks like it's a scheduled c-panel update of some sort which happens everyday. The second email looks like this (sent at 6pm everyday)...
Code: ################### LogWatch 5.2.2 (06/23/04) #################### Processing Initiated: Wed Aug 15 04:02:06 2007 Date Range Processed: yesterday Detail Level of Output: 0 Logfiles for Host: server1-host.crysis-online.com ################################################################

###################### LogWatch End #########################
I understand that these are most certainly both Cron Jobs, but I don't know how to identify them, or get rid of them. Anyway care to tell me how? I've got SSH access to the server and use both putty and WinSCP to access it.
Note: It is worth noting that the mail() function is not suitable for larger volumes of email in a loop. This function opens and closes an SMTP socket for each email, which is not very efficient.
Hi all... Ok the situation is this. My DrWeb died a few weeks ago and then I started to receive 100's of emails trying to connect to DrWeb. This was resolved, but everyday without fail I receive these two emails and wonering if anyone can tell me why?

It seems that some tsearch2 functions are inaccessible such as a set of rank() funcs. The default definition for one of the functions is shown in the following snippet of
code: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION rank(real[], tsvector, tsquery) RETURNS real AS '$libdir/tsearch2', 'rank' LANGUAGE 'c' IMMUTABLE STRICT; I've tried to execute this script shown above and got the following error: ERROR: permission denied for language c rpm -qa | grep postgresql postgresql-devel-8.3.5-1PGDG.rhel4 postgresql-server-8.3.5-1PGDG.rhel4 postgresql-8.3.5-1PGDG.rhel4 postgresql-libs-8.3.5-1PGDG.rhel4 postgresql-plpython-8.3.5-1PGDG.rhel4
My vps managed service has disabled this functions in php.ini :
Code: exec, shell_exec, system, passthru, popen, virtual, show_source, pclose I asked them why these disabled and the answer was "because of security reasons" .
So for example a Joomla installation with working RSS needs some of these functions and when I install vary php programs I face some strnge problems that I think it may be from these disabilities .
So my question is could these functions usually be disabled ? and may I delete them from disable_functions of php.ini
In the php.ini ive disabled several functions for security reasons but i need to enable exec() and shell_exec() for WHMCS Status, but i dont want it enabled for anything or anyone else. I know you can over ride global php.ini but i preferably dont want that on and also i forgot where that option is but i was wondering if there was any work arounds or would i have to enable exec() and shell_exec() globally or enable php.ini override.
When dealing with the security of your server you will eventually get to the part were you will want to disable some php functions. The only problem on shared hosting is that you cannot disable exec for a domain and enable that function for an other that needs it because of some lame script. Eventually you will get to the part were you will need to enable exec on the entire server because of one site.
There is a solution to this and it’s called suhosin.
Suhosin has a configuration variable called ”suhosin.executor.func.blacklist” which can be used to disable some php functions. The difference between this variable and disable_functions in php.ini is that it can be set for all the sites and then it can be modified for a domain only (it can be overwritten) so you will be able to disable exec on the entire server and enable that function for a single domain.
I will not write here how to install suhosin.
Also, you only need the extension for this so you do not need to patch php and recompile.
IMPORTANT: I have noticed that the suhosin extension 0.9.20 will not work anymore as there are some problems with it. It’s ok as long as we have 0.9.18. Probably the next version of the extension will be fixed to work ok again so remember to use version 0.9.18 for this until the problem is fixed.
Ok, so to use suhosin as the php function blocker we need to comment out disable_functions in php ini (yes, enable all the functions) and then set in php.ini suhosin.executor.func.blacklist to something like this:
After that, all the functions added in suhosin.executor.func.blacklist will not work anymore in php scripts. If you need to enable a function for a domain, let’s say exec, you will have to edit apache configuration file and add suhosin.executor.func.blacklist without the exec function:
how to make MySQL functions in PHP in server, bcz when i intall VB in my dedicated server it comeing is there is any option in WHM to chnage these funtion!
is it possible to set the disabled functions list for PHP in apache's HTTPD.conf per virtual host? i want a bunch of functions disabled for everyone except the default host (me).
I tried the php_admin_value way and when i look at phpinfo() it shows that the master is disabled and the local is not disabled (exactly what i want) but they arnt actually enabled for me
How to disable those functions on VPS with Lxadmin and CentOS 5 show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec, phpinfo, popen, proc_open, base64_decode, base64_encodem, proc_terminate
I'm using Parallels Plesk 12.0 and a mysql-Server.
I'm logged in with a customer's account into his phpmyadmin. Whenever a client connects to his website (which uses the database of his account) I get logged out and receive a "session expired" error. When I log in again I get "there's already a user with your username logged in".
I spent 2 weeks reading the materials this company has on it's website, AND, asking them several pre-sell questions to see if they would 'fit the bill', so to speak.
After answering all my questions, I ordered a 'managed' server, because although I have had vps's and other hosting accts., I didn't feel confident managing my own server.
Plus, they have a summer "special" for only $49.90 for the first 3 months, on a 24 month contract.
WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!
First, it took 2 and-a-half weeks to setup my server. I had to go screaming to paypal to get them to tell me my server was ready. (They SAY it'll be ready within 5 days) I had to cancel the contract, and rant and rave to get that far. (Who needs the stress - know what I mean?)
Also, I had called their support a couple times to try to get the status of my server order, and the people working for them, don't know a darn thing. I got sent to two different places, just trying to find out what had happened with my server order.
Anyway, I was satisfied that I finally had my server, and removed the claim at pp. The drama continues . . .
One of the questions I had asked them PRIOR to buying, is how much additional ip's would cost for this package. They gave me the cost, and I made a 'mental note' of it.
Last night, I sent an email to them requesting several more IP's, as I need them for several projects I've been WAITING to get started.
I was told that I can't HAVE additional IP's for my server. Has anyone EVER heard of that before?
Upon spending more time on the 'server' interface, it's nothing more than an admin panel, (not windows, whm, centos, or cpanel, etc.) that you can build 'a' website with.
Lots of FLUFF, but not the definition of a server AT ALL! It's somthing that a complete newbie would order because they can't make their own website.
So, now I've wasted almost a month screwing around with this company, and they out and out LIED to me, (I have the emails to prove it) and I'm left 'out' $50, all the time they wasted, AND, I don't know if I'm even going to be able to afford another solution until next month! I'm just getting started and my budget isn't very big, but I AM honest, and I pay my bills. I'm on disability, so I have to plan my budget carefully, until I get rich that is. (Sorry, sidetracked there, 'cause I'm VERY upset right now.)
Bottom line, this company sucks all the way around. I think they are just so big, that there isn't any personalized service at all, and their customer service people are dumb as rocks.
Avoid them like the plague!
Have a great day everyone. I've been crying all day, so I'm going to go do some aromatherapy with a hot bath and some candles. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully God brings me another solution.
Does any dedicated server provider give a Virtuozzo license with unlimited VEs? I've noticed that most of them give 3, 10, or max. 100. Do you have any idea why wouldn't they give a license for unlimited VEs and why are they restricting the number of VEs that we can create on a server since, as far as I've understood, Viruozzo provides license considering the CPU no.s, but not the number of VEs.
I still doubt if they are really give their clients with unlimited disk space, unlimited data transfers and others something unlimited their offers. Please guys help me. Make a screen shoot from your cPanel if you have web hosting account from web host providers that offers unlimited services (hostmonster, hostgator, webhostingpad, lunarpages, bluehost, ect)
what do you consider unlimited? Is unlimited simply a marketing term? I've seen a few host go from offer 1000mb to just listing it as unlimited.
I could understand that after some time a person may become confused once they start using too many resources but was the "unlimited" just a trend other hosting companies have followed? or do you congregate somewhere and decided, hey we should do unlimited, lol.
I'm curious because I see these "unlimited" plans a lot, as a consumer I'm really starting to focus more on plans that do listed in numbers what you get as appose to just seeing the word unlimited.
