Transferring Email Accounts From Plesk To CPanel
Apr 30, 2008
I have a client moving their email-only hosting account from Plesk 8 to cPanel 11.
Is there a function in Plesk control panel for backing up the email accounts and can I then import the backup into cPanel to make the process smooth? Or, can I do it only manually?

I have been used to transfering accounts from one WHM/cPanel server to another - easy-peasy
What is involved with moving accounts from a WHM/cPanel server to a server/vps running Plesk?

I just want to provide what it takes to change hosting company or moving from one to another.
Here is 10 steps how you can do it.
Please correct me if I forgot something or I am totally wrong (wing-wong)
1.Identify a web hosting company that provides the features and services most suitable for you.
2.Order an appropriate hosting package from the supplier.
3.Use the Control Panel facilities to manage your email boxes and such like.
4.Begin the transfer of your domain or change the domain records and change email settings if required (your new web hosting supplier
should provide guidance and support to make this as simple as possible).
5.Copy all your files from your previous web hosting service.
6.Upload the files to your new hosted web space.
7.Transfer any databases required for your website.
8.Check that all files have been copied and uploaded successfully.
9.Test functionality and content related to any databases.
10.If you have not done so already, cancel your previous hosting service.
By the way I think that the most biggest problem is to know how to get moving from one to another hosting that’s why people always thinks that
they will stick to one hosting company and forget all major problems with that company (downtimes, long servers maintenance and etc.)…
I am trying to analyze cPanel, DirectAdmin and Plesk and will provide all (as much as I can) information regarding how to transfer your website.

Anyway I think it would be great idea to have all information together collected.

I am trying to transfer someone from Plesk 8.2.1 to cPanel/WHM 11.23. The client that is on Plesk does not seem to have root access because I tried the WHM built in transfer from another server feature and it wasnt working. It said password was incorrect but it was the main password.
So any thoughts on how i can transfer everything safely?

On my cpanel server, the main account catch-all is full of crap emails. So many that when I try to log into it with horde/squirrel it just times out. How can I clear the mailbox out? I tried connecting too it from outlook express and it connects but doesnt download any of the emails. This is the main email account that cpanel automatically creates for the account.

I want to set plesk to allow the overuse for disk space and bandwidth for my customers, but not for e-mail accounts.
If I do not allow overuse, what exactly happens when a customer exceeds the use of resources? The plesk panel immediately stops all the customer's services? Or what?
Moreover: is there a diagnostic utility to understand if the plesk panel is working correctly and is correctly installed?

Many of our clients create e-mail accounts that forward incoming e-mail to mailboxes hosted on other e-mail services. e.g., Gmail.
Lately, though, a handful of these accounts have been receiving a lot of spam (i.e., UCE) and that's been causing a lot of damage to our reputation with these other e-mail services because the message that's being forwarded appears to have originated from our servers.
Code:
<someuser@gmail.com>: host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[64.233.183.27]

Is there some way to...
Find accounts that are configured to forward to gmail?
Disable forwarding in accounts that are configured to forward to gmail?Â

I'm getting following errors while migrating my accounts from latest version of cPanel:
Code:
Warning:
Couldn't get 'cgi_bin_mode' attribute for domain where cgi-bin dir is '' and docroot dir is '/home/inofash/public_html'. Domain will be migrated in that way as if its cgi-bin directory was located under docroot.
Because of that none of my accounts can't be migrated.

Is it possible to use different MX records depending on the email address? Let's say for [url] I'd like to use Kayako support. Thus I'd need to pipe it with my own server.

I know I have seen a command line you can use which will activate :fail: in all the accounts on the server simultaneously so that you don't have to do each account separately, but I can't find that command.
Does anyone here know what that command is? I'm assuming it would involve /etc/valiases/?

I just transfered an existing client of mine to one of my servers but he has MX entries.
I entered the MX settings in Cpanel for him but im wondering if I have to actually add all the mail accounts? Im assuming since he is using MX entries then he is using a seperate server to handle all the accounts. Am I right in my assumption? Do I have to add all his mail accounts into cpanel?
