After having my site on an Win2k3 virtual server for the last 10 years I've finally bitten the bullet and purchased a VPS account.
My site is an old legacy of MS Frontpage, complete with FPSE, Access databases, asp, html pages and lots of images. Total size is just over 4Gb.
I've tried publishing the site using MS ExpressionWeb direct from the virtual server to the VPS, plus I've tried to Publish them from the backup on my PC. Nothing works. I just get error after error after error.
EW starts to publish and maybe will run for 4 hours before throwing up an error saying that it can't find the web server or FPSE aren't installed. They are basically the same old error messages that all of Microsoft's Frontpage and Expression Web software have been throwing up since the day Frontpage was first marketed back in 1998! If they can't solve the problem you'd at least think they could change the error messages.
I've tried uploading them via FTP but without the MS server extensions the child webs aren't created so therefore I just end up with permission problems and nothing works properly-
Attached is a (badly) drawn diagram of two sites, connected by a vpn.
The site to the left, is network 10.0.0.0/24 which runs a linux server as the router for the network.
The site to the right, is network 10.1.0.0/24 which runs a windows 2003 server as the router for the network.
Now, my problem is, the clients behind the windows 2003 server can ping any machine on the first network because i setup a static route to route all traffic to 10.0.0.0/24 over the vpn interface.
now, my problem is, only the linux server can ping any machine on the windows 2003 network, any client behind the linux server cant seem to route over the interface.
I have the following route on the linux server: .....
We need to upload to a virtual server (managed with Plesk 11.5) a Wordpress site developed locally. We made this operations without problems many times on other hostings managed with custom panels, non-Plesk.
On the virtual server with Plesk, however, once the files are uploaded via FTP, the database via phpMyAdmin and updated the Wordpress configuration file, when you go to visit the website, it does not display anything and the browser opens the download window for a text file called "download" that contains the code of the file index.php of WordPress.
I am trying to move over a client from Verio's hosting to my VPS. The verio control panel looks very amateurish and there is no option to do a full account backup. There is no SSH either.
I tried wget -r ftp://user:pass@hostname/directory/* which was mentioned in another WHT thread, but after it gets connected, it shows the following and stops there:
Quote:
Logging in as accountname ... Logged in! ==> SYST ... done. ==> PWD ... done. ==> TYPE I ... done. ==> CWD /directoryname ... done. ==> PASV ...
Can anyone suggest a command that will work? There is only about 35 MB of files there, but I spent hours yesterday trying to download through FTP.
I just want to know how can I enable directory listing while someone is browsing a directory that doesnt have an index.* created.. i know its a security risk but i really need it right now, right now a forbidden message appears, i just want that removed and all my files listed.
Can anyone explain me how to do that on Ensim Pro 4.1 for just 1 virtual site?
I created a new virtual site and cloned an existing to to the new docroot to have content. But when I access it I receive the Access Denied you do not have permission to access . . .I've checked all my entries and unless I'm blind I cannot figure out how to remedy this on my Windows 2003R2 server running apache 2.2.x
I would like to understand what is the difference between VPS and a VDS. I understand they sound the same, however from a cost stand point VPS is way cheaper than VDS, and I am not very sure of the reason.
I'm expected to have around 1000-1500 users at a time after my ad compaign for my site. currently, my setup is as follows: VPS in UK guaranteed memory: 256 burstable : 512 disk: 20GB traffic: 200GB per month price : 15 dollars a month
I would like to upgrade to : guaranteed memory: 1GB which is better ? to go with VPS ? or dedicated server ? which provider do u recommend ? how much am I expected to pay for my required setup ? what about CPU ?
What is the difference between virtual dedicated server and a dedicated server?
I know that a dedicated server means you have the physical computer as your server whileas virtual dedicated server means that they separate the physical computer into various parts and you have control over one of those separated parts.
But my question is mainly on the functionality of a virtual dedicated server and a dedicated server.
What can you do on a dedicated server that you can't do on a virtual dedicated server?
i'm trying to get a graphical interface for a VPS I recently bought. I'm currently running Ubuntu Minimal 8.01. I've read some instructions on how to install the GUI, and VNC. I cannot get this to work, does anyone have any insight?
I have one main server with various virtual servers installed on it. however I do not succeed in restarting one of the virtual server. i receive javascript errors(see attachment).
I have put all the security settings to low, enable scripts etc. and still it doesn't work.
Just wanted to know how prevalent VS 2005 is now. We are basically virtualizing everything that moves as it is easier to upgrade to a new server and move the VPS around. Also we get to control the reboots etc.
I am looking for a reliable managed VPS host which has servers/or is based in the UK. I am transferring a high traffic site, and I'm looking for recommendations for a host offering the following:
-Managed VPS -Reliable servers -Good support, with native English language staff -U.K. based data center Any suggestions for hosts would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had experience with clustered.net as I have seen they have a package?
I am "simply" looking to run a Joomla! community site with an estimated 250 - 500 and then eventually up to 1,000 users onine at one time. The main attraction will be the user forums and profiles. I don't plan on having any videos or anything like that, but I will install a mambot that will integrate Google Video, etc.
I am trying to pick a VPS provider and from what I have read so far, I have kind of narrowed it down to a few places:
From reading alot so far, I would imagine I would need at least 256-512MB of RAM. Plesk sounds like a good control panel since I won't be reselling any of the space. Webmin sounds too hands on, and I know a little bit, but not a lot. The backup option that comes with Spry.com sounds tempting, but VPSLink has attractive price points. Mediatemple.net also gives you 1TB of bandwidth, a very attractive option.
I am "simply" looking to run a Joomla! community site with an estimated 250 - As long as the site can run MySQL, I am happy. Joomla!, statistics software (any suggestions) and WordPress and that is about it as far as applications.
Any suggestions on what plans or who I should go with? My budget is about $t50 a month.
The subject line pretty much sums up my major problem. My site has been intermittently slow (somtimes slow, sometimes not) for... like since I can remember. So my site isn't that big
Sometimes for me it takes forever to load a vbulletin page, or even the main page of the site. I thought I had found the problem (a mysql-intensive script), removed it, improved things quite a bit, but there is still a long way to go!
Many site users report the same exact things. "The site is sloowww" ... "It wasn't slow yesterday but it is today" ... "Today it's really fast, but last week I was having problems pulling up pages".
Its fustrating becase this is a VPS, and although I know how to use Cpanel, WHM is really big and I am not sure what I could do to speed up my website or to even begin to locate any potential problems.
My site is basically Joomla CMS, vBulletin BBS and 4images image gallery. The later two use a common user database. My current mysql usage is 327.55MB in total. Apache 1.3.34, PHP 4.4.1 and MySQL 4.1.19-standard. Powered by WHM/Cpanel & Virtuozzo.
What should I do? Where can I start? Where can I look?
I'm just wondering if people could point me in the direction of cheap VPS's - like under $10/month, but ideally nearer $5/month if such a thing exists..
I'm looking for one to host slave DNS so I obviously want it to be fast and reliable but I dont need it to be 100% mega reliable in the sense that an outage here and there wouldn't be the end of the world as there will be no web sites hosted on it.
A lot of providers say "2 IP's included" or something to that effect when advertising their plans. What exactly does this mean? The number of dedicated IP's? The number of websites you can host?
We're looking for a VPS in the UK that comes with cPanel. Ideally we'd want around 100GB storage and 1GB Ram. Budget is around £40. Can anything be bought for that price?
I am looking for Xen VPS servers hosted High end equipment
Ie RAID 10 / SAN with good support willing to pay upto 70 USD per month.
I don't need them to be managed, just very reliable with excellent and reactive support. I have looked on the forums and cannot find any that suit my needs.
Actually , I have some hosting customers in a Reseller Plan with HostGator.Paying $24.95/month,24GB(Space)/250GB (Bandwith) with WHM,CPanel, free WHMCS and free Enom Account and also a good support and great Uptime.
I'm planning to migrate to a VPS.Can you recommend a good VPS,with the same budget,WHM,CPanel,WHMCS,Enom and also a good support and uptime.
At the moment I run a small membership site. The site mainly consists of creating, downloading a lot of files using fwrite (Based on what the user enters).
Last months stats were just under 30GB of data transferred.
I'm currently with HostGator Business Plan ($12.99/month).
I run a LOT of database connections per minute. I am looking to increase the size of my membership site at which point it will be likely that I am running at least 1 DB connection per second.
Can anyone recommend me a decent priced VPS/Dedicated server for my needs?
The usage will probably be around 50GB/month.
HostGator have shutdown my site a couple times last month due to excessive number of running processes (Limited to 25) so I have decided to leave them.
I have a VPS and i have a VoIP phone that i use (i use it alot) i was putting credit into my account then i thought why cant i install my own VoIP Server. I started searching and came up with some software but now iam stuck.
