Attacked By Russia

Jun 11, 2008

I have been consistently attacked by Russia.

When I had apache my server would die and you couldn't even SSH. Now I have Litespeed my site loads but SUPER SUPER slow.

Last night I was SYN Flooded with 125mbps. Though they consumed nearly all my bandwidth and I owe the DC tons of cash in bandwidth now. I managed to block Russia and the load halved to about 50 and the site was still functional but intermittent.

I have been running Deflate DDoS etc to block IPs.

I'm wondering if I get a load balancer with another box, would this fix my problems?

I heard you can modify the settings somewhere to identify syn attacks and auto block them.

DDoS Extortion Investigation. Russia Business Network

Feb 2, 2008

My company is conducting an investigation against an unidentified entity which I currently believe to be Russia Business Network ( [url]

On at least two occasions we have had customers with only minor DDoS issues (let us say 100 - 1000 Mbps at peak) suddenly experience 2 - 4 Gbps attacks which require a $100 to $500 service to jump to roughly $2000 - 5000 per month depending on exact specifications. Naturally this type of issue is not good for the business of our customers and subsequently not healthy for ours.

On each occasion an unnamed individual (I know who they are but I will reserve judgment at the moment) will come forward offering to let our customer try a "special new" protection product they developed that can protect against 10 Gbps for only $2000 which is sometimes a fraction of what my company or any other respected mitigation provider would be forced to charge.

Here is the network they end up on: [url]query=SBL62147 .. and up goes another red flag. When you take a look at this network it routes to ELTEL in St. Petersburg, Russia ( [url] which based on some basic analysis I very seriously doubt has any form of mitigation capabilities, much less multi-Gbps.

Essentially what is happening is they're buying "protection" for $2000.00 per month from the "company" who is actually committing the attacks when in reality that end user has no significant DDoS issues.

I'm actually sitting on a lot more data than this but I need to collect some more data and opinions on whether or not this is linked to RBN. Once my investigation is complete I will issue a full report.

Dedicated Server In Europe Area

Oct 22, 2009

I'm specifically looking for a server in the European area since I am from South Africa.

The reason being they will be more or less in the same timezone as I am and they also generally provide the fastest ping times (220ms to a server in Europe as opposed to 350ms to a server in USA).

I will be using the server as our own hosting space and hopefully be able to rent a monthly license for Parallels Plesk so that I may be able to resell hosting space - this is the primary reason for the dedicated server. I would like to know whether getting at least a quad core for this setup is essential or if I can get away with a dual core (in the case of hosting say 50 - 100 different websites).

So far I have been looking at keyweb.de which has a dual-core setup at 79euro installation fee and 49euro monthly fee. Their quad-core setup is 99euro installation and 59euro monthly. One drawback is it seems that they don't install Ubuntu linux (which is the OS i'm after). Another one is that their website isn't very intuitive - I cannot see whether it is possible to bundle Plesk with my order. I do however like the fact that they generally allow torrents.

Dedicated Server Company In Europe

Apr 30, 2008

actually I have my dedicated server with ThePlanet since many years ago, where I'm really happy, but due to recent spanish laws, I need to move everything to a european dedicated server as ThePlanet isn't certificated at the "Safe Harbor directive".

============
This is what I actually have:

2x1024 MB DDR 266 ECC
1 Dell 1600SC Dual Xeon MB DAT54AMB8C2
2 Intel P4 Xeon 2.8 GHz 533FSB (4x2.8)
2500Gb Bandwidth
Linux+Cpanel
============

What I'm looking for, is a serius company (no reseller company) with similar dedicated servers configurations. What I'm looking for is also a 1Gbps uplink connection. Bandwith is not so important, as my monthly bandwidth is only about 300Gb.

I've seen very fast (connection) servers in Netherland but don't know how serious they are.

OVH (apparently) looks also fine, but I've read very bad reviews about them.

DDoS Protected Dedicated Server IN EUROPE

Feb 22, 2008

After being hit by a DDoS (managed to evade it for a while, but it's still painful due to downtimes) I'm looking for a DDoS-protected server somewhere in Europe. I don't care about the exact location, it just has to be outside Canada and the USA. I do not require a lot of traffic - using just about 1.5GBs per day, diskspace also is not an issue, so the main things is the DDoS protection, connection availability and the general level of service.

Searching through this forum, I've found the only possible option for a DDoS-protected being DataPipe (contacted and awaiting for a quote already). Have I missed something else? Are there any alternative good hosters with reliable networks and protection in the EU?

Dedicated Server Required In Western Europe

Jun 3, 2008

Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that could provide a reasonably priced, reliable, unmanaged server for me somewhere in western europe?

I'll need a reasonable amount of bandwidth, so this is a consideration.

I'm based in the UK, but willing to look at other, more digitally enlightened countries nearby (Norway, Finland, France, Germany, etc) to get a better price since servers are very expensive here.

The server be hosting a big AJAX application so latency is a consideration also.

Rental Dedicated Server In Europe: It Is Important To The Quality Of Reliability!

Aug 24, 2008

Requires a dedicated server in Europe.

Requirements:

1) Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2,2 GHz;
2) RAM: 2024 MB DDRAM;
3) Hard Drive: 2x 250 GB SATA (can be smaller);
4) Traffic: At least 1000 GB or unrestricted;

6) IP-Addresses: 2.

Mandatory conditions:

2) Operational and anglophone support;
3) Ability to establish a panel, for example: ISPmanager.

Recommended requirements:
1) Protection against DDoS-attacks;
2) The ability to administer the server, a company that provides services to lease (regular updates, round-the-clock monitoring, etc.).

The server is designed for the site, which will:

1) Forum;
2) Video and audio materials (up to 20 spots, for up to 10 minutes each), which can be viewed directly on the site using flash-player or download. Clips will not be frequently changed or supplemented;

Budget:
up to $ 200 a month. But if such amount is not sufficient for the entry requirements, are ready to revise the budget.

Need a really high-quality channel of communication and operational support, etc. Perhaps for these tasks, you recommend other requirements to a server and placing the territory? Check your real council.

Also look in the direction of affordable rental server and utilization of services: Akamai Technologies. If someone has experience working with Akamai, I ask, share their views. Should I use it for such a project?

A lot of information has been revised to servers in Germany, UK and USA. But the single answer, yet to be found.

Colocation - Europe - NL Or DE

Aug 21, 2009

recommendations for colocation in Europe, preferably NL or DE based?

Basic requirement:

1-5U initially, option to expand into half and full rack over time.

Reasonably priced bandwidth.

Decent remote hands when needed.

A sensible AUP would also be a requirement. I prefer a host to give you an opportunity to address any issues (such as a compromised system, copyright protected content, or similar) *before* they actually pull the plug. From what I have seen, some hosts will disable your switch port(s) almost the moment they receive a complaint - which is not acceptable.

Managed VPS In Europe

Aug 12, 2008

A friend has asked me to recommend a company for a Managed VPS solution, one that must be in hosted in Europe (I suggested that he might want to look to the USA but he doesn't want to). As I really don't know too much about European VPS solutions as I mainly deal with US datacenters and companies I wanted to ask for a recommendation.

He requires a managed linux VPS solution, with a control panel that can manage files, email, databases etc, so whether its directadmin, cPanel, Plesk or whatever, it doesn't really matter.

He is looking for the following specs:
20-30GB HDD
128 or more RAM
Bandwidth doesn't particularly matter as long as its not too low.

The budget is £20 or under (around $40) per month, so he's obviously looking at quite a low-end solution.
