I would be interested in knowing if anyone has used the data returned from Senderbase.org as part of their antispam evaluation. And if yes, have you found this to be effective compared to traditional IP blacklists like SpamHaus ?
Let me start this thread off by saying I can not stand spam. Any reports that I get, I address immediately (within 24h), providing that they're given to me by the provider to fix!
That said, I just got nullrouted, not once, but twice by Hivelocity, due to a rather bogus senderbase report. I'm not going to discuss the nullrouting right now, but the actual fact that this ip address is IN senderbase with a poor reputation (WTF).
Looking through the links there (google abuse, RBLs, etc), nothing is off, the ip address is NOT listed anywhere, there has been absolutely NO spam from the server itself (I checked logs twice), yet NOTHING unusual came up.
Proof? I've yet to receive any, or any explanation as to WHY this is listed (I know, Hivelocity can't prove it, and that's fine, they're only doing their jobs), but this is just nothing more than an annoyance.
Twice in two years now, as a very responsible host with ZERO tolerance to spam (incoming or outgoing!), I have been hampered by the efforts of the anti-spam "reputation service" offered by [url]
We host something like 2000 websites across a cluster of servers, and while we do everything possible to prevent spam, it's inevitable there will be the occasional outbreak.
A couple of days back, sure enough, one of our hosted sites was compromised. As far as I could tell, the culprit was too simple a password. There were no signs of compromised scripts, permissions, anything. Just a spam script uploaded via FTP from a foreign IP address. We do have limits on password strength now, but may not have when this account was set up.
Anyhow, within 120 minutes or so, we had removed the spam script, blocked the offending IP, secured the site and delisted our IP from the ONE RBL it appeared on - Spamcop.
You would think that would be the end of the story, right? Wrong.
Here we are, over two days later, NO listings on any RBLs, NO further spam from ANY of our servers. What Senderbase reputation do you think that server has? Poor.
This is an IP that as far as I know has NEVER had a spam issue, other than the single outbreak two days ago.
The net result of this "Poor" listing is that we have now had outgoing email sitting in our mail queue for 50+ hours because the recipient mail systems are STILL blocking us based on our "Poor" reputation.
Furthermore, I quote directly from the Senderbase site: "Why is the reputation Poor? This host is sending spam!". That one really tipped me over the edge.
As I say, this is at least the second time two years running that this has happened to us. Single spam problem; Cleaned up quickly and efficiently; Wait on Senderbase for days.
It is hard enough dealing with spammers and problems like this, without having to fight the "good guys" too. All I can say is that I will personally NEVER use, nor recommend, the services of Senderbase or Ironport.
I have an email server one account of which is compromise and resulted in my senderbase score as poor. How long will it be reverted back to normal or neutral? Anyway I can hasten the speed?
We do little hosting since a couple of years but want to expend our hosting solution.
Actually, we user ASSP and SpamAssasin to block spam but we are looking for a better solution, something who get power and who is easy to user for end user...
I take a look at barracuda but it's very expensive...
we provide a community portal for our users, we run the possibility of setting up a mail from us. Since we have limited experience with anti-spam configuration and we do not like spam bothering our users, looking for suitable "hosted antispam solution.
We have been more than 2 years with Liquidweb. Yes, great machine and datacenter. We were using spamassasin as bundled software on cpanel to fight with spammer, but it was not good enough.
1 year ago we decided to install ASSP Deluxe antispam on our dedicated server, bought from grscripts.com. Its powerful software against the spammer which succesfuly isolate them on a separate folder/email. And our clients happy working on emailing activity.
But in the early of 2009, liquidweb has terminated the software as it's not match with their TOS. Its a weird policy since we installed it 1 year ago.
Honestly, we want to keep you (liquidweb) as our valuable datacenter, but we need solution to keep running a business and stay alive on it. Otherwise we have no choice to migrate our dedicated server (consume a lot of time and energy).
I have noticed that a customer's emails are banned by certain RBL/antispam filters even though they are sent using SMTP-Authentication through a non-banned SMTP server.
It seems that its ISP IP is blacklisted..... Is this normal?
I migrated many domains to a Plesk 12 with lot of email accounts. I need to find a way to mass enable antispam and DR.Web anti virus.
How can I enable to all accounts the antispam with certain parameters Ex. 5 Points and Mark **SPAM** _SCORE_ in the subject and also enable Dr.Web for incoming email.
I have 100+ sites on this hard drive, and one site in particular that meant the world to me.
My host sent the drive to Gillware first, but they failed saying that the file system was so severely damaged that they could not recover anything.
Then shortly after, my host sent it to DriveSavers, a very well-known company, but they also FAILED.
I'm extremely depressed because of this. Please don't post if you're going to say "make sure you do backups next time" because I've heard it 504329504395 times now, and while I do realize my mistake, saying that does NOT help me.
I am willing to spend ALOT to get my sites back. I still have hope. Are there any other companies out there BETTER than DriveSavers? Assuming that you'd still have hope even after two companies failed, where you would you go or what would you do?
How can I find the data transfer rate on the server. I have done ifconfig -a , it display the amout of data has been received and transfered. I want to see the live data transfer date. Can I able to check it?
My host just recently sent the hard drive with my sites to a data recovery company called Gillware. Website is [url]- but they failed and gave the following reason:

Gillware Inc.
Do you guys think there's still hope?
The hard drive is now being shipped to a more well known company, Drive Savers - [url]and I'm guessing that this is the last hope, because the more the drive gets tampered with, the more chance of permanent data loss.
So yeah.. I was just wondering what you think? If the file system is so severely damaged, do you think it STILL can be recovered?
I need more space so i requested another hdd but they said that the server can only have 2 hdd's.They told me that i can upgrade to a 250gb hdd.(1x160gb,1x250gb).
BUT HOW will the data from the one hdd will be transfered to the other 250gb hdd?
What is the best way to handle prevent data loss in the event a hard drive goes bad in a server. We have never had one go yet but I can only imagine what a server load of domains suddenly losing their databases or sites. (giving that they didn't back their stuff up).
I know one was is a RAID setup. I just wanted to hear more.
What about if you need to move everyone from one server to another due to major upgrades? Like adding more hdd space.
I have a dedicated linux server that is using plesk, I need to make a complete copy of all the files (4GB) to my local pc, if I use FTP it will take days to download, if I use the plesk backup tool it will backup to a file that my pc cant read/open. Is there an easy way (I have no experience in systems admin) that I could compress all the files on the server to a .tar,.rar or .zip file and then just download that one complete file to my pc?
who you have used in the past to recover damanged hard drives that have been dropped. I got a client that damanged his HD, and it needs to be sent out to someone who is reliable is not gonna cheat and steal the data.
I'm trying to move data from my old server to new server, using WHM, now thing is while moving it just uses all IP on the system and when there are 0 IP's free, it says copying failed, How to make all accounts goon just 1 IP?
Can anyone recommend hosting provider (dedicated or VPS) that has a strong and clear policy with respect to data on the the server?
We currently have accounts with Liquidweb and ThePlanet. Their policies are fine as far as they go, but they seem focused on things credit card info used to purchase service, and tracking of activity on their web sites.
That's all very nice, but I am worried about data stored on our servers, etc. I need to be sure that they won't turn over information to 3rd parties without our consent or being compelled by a subpoena, warrant or court order, and I want to be sure that any data center they rent space in won't do the same.
