Root User Not Being Logged

Jun 27, 2007

Our web developer is logging in as root through SSH but log files do not show a record. We are getting the normal email notification but last & last -a does not show that they have logged in. Anyone seen this before?

Not Able To Set Crontab To 4755 In SSH Logged In As Root

Mar 20, 2008

For some odd reason, when I run: chmod 4755 /usr/bin/crontab

in ssh, it still does not change it to 4755. It's like I don't have permission to change it, ans I'm logged in as root.

I've read some threads here on the forum and none really come to an issue where when they run that chmod 4755 /usr/bin/crontab it still doesn't chmod it.

So is there a way to check if it is chmodded to 4755 as I use CSF Exploerer to check if it is chmod'd to 4755, and it just stays at 755.

Apache :: Redirect To Domain Root When Not Logged In

Sep 12, 2013

I would like to do do following using basic authentication:

1. non authenticated users have access to the index page: [URL] .....
2. there are other pages, e.g: [URL] .... but these would require basic auth
3. if users are not authenticated they would be redirected to [URL] .... otherwise authenticated users would have access to [URL] .... or anything else under that domain

Apache :: Basic Auth User Not Logged In Common Log File

Jul 18, 2013

I use Basic Auth to limit access to a web site. This seems to work ok. I noticed though in the logs that the logged in user is not logged:

80.....188 - - [16/Jul/2013:09:56:29 +0200] "GET ..." 200 1844 "...." " ...

I would expect the second - to be replaced by the logged in user. The doc says, the user is logged if the document is protected. I do protect the whole directory using directory match. Without log in I fail to retrieve the document in question.

MySQL: Access Denied For Root User

Oct 25, 2007

When I deleted a database, the user apparently was orphaned because when I tried to recreate it, it returned "user already exists". I've never encountered that problem although from Googling, I see others have and they delete the user to get around it.

When I log into mysql using the da_admin@ account and attempt to remove the user with drop user <user_name>; I receive the following error message:

ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need the CREATE USER privilege for this operation

It seems I don't have rights even as the root user. How can I get remove the orphaned user?

Access Denied For User 'root'@'localhost

Jun 8, 2007

I'm getting the error after running
[root@server ~]# mysqladmin processlist

Quote:

mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

I'm running plesk on FC4.

Not too sure why it says failed or denied, as I'm root?

Why User Root Is Running Process Httpd All Time

Jul 2, 2009

I usually use the "top" command to see what is happening in my server ... Normally everything is OK untill one week ago I start so see this process:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
1115 root 20 0 10768 10m 164 R 26 0.5 46:17.27 httpd

Is the number 1 on the top list using a lot of CPU and MEM (as I say before ... I never have seen this command in the past)

So when I kill the process everything goes fine but only for a few minutes and then is comming back

Did They Logged In

Jul 7, 2007

I just check server logs today and found this:
Seems like someone else logged in to my server via FTP.

Since i only limited my IP to login to server Via FTP, SSH... using APF
But now, beside my IP, there's a few of connections from different IPs.

- Does that mean they logged in?
- What is the localhost login there?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Repeatedly Logged Out While Working On Config Of Primary Website

Feb 19, 2015

On our instance (Plesk 12 / Debian) I am logged out within 1 or 2 minutes quite often while working on config of the primary website (admin access). The session idle time is set to the 30 min default, and the problem isn't to do with changing IP addresses - the multiple sessions visible all have the same IP address.

This happens so constantly it is difficult do any real work. Where is the logic of session creation and termination? What do we need to look at to deal with this problem? We have root access.

Are Chained Root Ssl Certificates More Secure Than Single Root?

Nov 25, 2008

I have read that although chained root ssl certificates can be more difficult to install they are actually more secure since the root certificate cannot be compromised, only the intermediary.

Is this true? It looks like both google and amazon both use chained SGC certs.

Redirect Domain/user To User.domain ONLY IF Folder 'user' Doesn't Exist

May 7, 2007

I thought I knew enough about my .htaccess stuff to do this, but I can't seem to work it out. What I want to do is if a user visits domain.com/folder, we check to see if the folder exists. If so, show as normal (IE domain.com/support)

If a user visits domain.com/dynamicusername (dynamicusername is not a physical folder), redirect to dynamicusername.domain.com

Plesk Automation :: Login As User From Admin / Actual Login As User Are Different

I need my customers to add their own aliases and manage them - how do I add that feature to the client login side?

FTP As Root

Jul 13, 2008

I just recently had someone from this forum install CentOS for me with ISPconfig and required modules to successfully run PHPmotion. However, the only FTP I can access are the ones I create FTP for in ISPconfig, such as web1_admin, web1_testuser, etc.

When installing a CentOS server with ISPconfig, isn't there a root to log into the FTP?

With the FTP accounts that I have, I cannot access public and home directory such as /var/www directories.

Is there suppose to be an account for FTP so I can succcessfully overlook the whole server?

I want to take a look at all the websites I have such as /var/www/www.test1.com, /var/www/www.test2.com, etc. all through FTP. However, I cannot do this. It's almost like I have no Admin power over my server.

He did not provide me with a root FTP account or any super admin FTP account. I am not sure if something suspicious is going on or not. Please help. I do not want to get hacked in and stolen files.

Root Domain

May 20, 2009

I have a server that I have a few domains on, and I have a question about the root domain. I initially picked any old domain, so now all of my name servers are pointing to this one random domain. I have since purchased a few more premium domains, and am wondering if I should change the nameservers to be the more premium domains? Does this matter? Should I have my "main site" be the root domain? Just trying to understand what the implications could be for me.
