MySQL: Access Denied For Root User
When I deleted a database, the user apparently was orphaned because when I tried to recreate it, it returned "user already exists". I've never encountered that problem although from Googling, I see others have and they delete the user to get around it.
When I log into mysql using the da_admin@ account and attempt to remove the user with drop user <user_name>; I receive the following error message:
ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need the CREATE USER privilege for this operation
It seems I don't have rights even as the root user. How can I get remove the orphaned user?

I've setup a mysql user and assigned a password for it. Server Access Denied
I have a strange problem that I encounter sometimes. I have 3 websites on my hosting account. About once a week, I will try to access one of those sites and I will get a timeout or connection error in my browser. I will not have any problem viewing any other websites and as soon as I restart my computer, I can view my sites again. It seems like either my computer, wifi router, isp or webhost decides to block me from accessing any of my 3 sites for no apparent reason. Restarting my computer fixs this. My ip does not change when I restart my computer so I do not know why it would suddenly allow me acces again but it does. What is this problem likley to be? A bug on my computer, a bug on my server? My isp being retarded? No one else seems to have any problems accessing my site, I would guess it is a local issue. What I can not figure out though, is why it only happens to my own websites on my hosting account. This never happens when trying to view any other websites except my own(on my hosting account). This cannot be a coincidence. It is a big mystery to me.

FTP: Access Denied On Whole Server
I have many accounts on my server, everyone can connect via FTP but when they try to upload something they get "access denied", i get it too, sometimes it works for a few minutes and goes back to giving me access denied. I have not changed any settings since it was working just fine before. I checked the folder permissions, user permissions, used chown command to make sure the folders belonged to the correct users/groups and I disabled the firewall same thing, any ideas what might be going on? do you this I have a virus on the server? it's a linux server

TheNYNOC - Billing Error And Denied Access
I've had a tiny VPS with Nynoc for a while, and have been satisfied with it's performance. Today, I just purchased their supervps 3 ($15/mo) and paid 6 months in advance. Although the full amount of the purchase was $90, I was billed only $85 in the invoice. My paypal account showed they had deducted $5 immediately before the order. Anyways, I completed the payment and got confirmation email. However, few hours later I come to learn via paypal emails that the subscription had been cancelled and the $85 payment refunded! I tried to login to the client portal, and surprise! Access denied! I tried to reset the password using the "forgotten password" link, now it says my e-mail address doesn't even exist in the database! I contacted support via e-mail and awaiting a reply. In the past few months I've received some weird invoices from nynoc. Sometimes they sent me invoice for $0, and then notify me that the invoice was paid in full! Clearly, their invoice & billing system is having trouble. And now I'm being locked out of my client area. (My old VPS is still running though.) Worse still, there was no word from the nynoc staff. Has anybody experienced billing errors with nynoc?

Apache, Linux, Access Denied Error
I have apache, php, and mysql setup on CentOS 4.4. I have phpMyAdmin running perfectly in a folder in /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin. I can access phpMyAdmin and use it perfectly. I downloaded Cacti which is a server monitoring application written in php, nothing special. I untar the file and it creates a folder, I simply do a mv command from /home/sys/cacti to /etc/www/html/cacti. Then when I open my browser and attempt to access: [url]I am getting a Access Denied error. It makes no sense though, I have verified the permissions of the files and folders, all good. The group owner and owner are root, the files are all -rw-r--r-- and the folders are drwxr-xr-x.

We have a small Hosting reseller account at eNom. We have a new customer that moved his website from another hosting company to ours. The website is on a shared IP. Enom also uses a internal IP for internal use associated to the domain. The problem we have is that AOL users can not see the website. As far as we can tell no other ISP's are having this problem. 401 Unauthorized: Access Is Denied Due To Invalid Credentials.
I have just installed WHMCS on a dedicated Windows 2003 Server box with Plesk 8.2. I am getting the above error when I try to go to the billing subdirectory (www.mydomain.com/billing), if I don't input a correct username/password. Inputing a username/pass does work, and I did so to install it, but obviously this is not a long term solution. IUSR has read/execute/list rights to the parent httpdocs directory and inheritable permissions is checked. I have checked the child directories and files, and everything seems to have inherited the correct permissions. I am able to otherwise access my website, as well as TCadmin.

However last night I got one of the dispatch emails, one that was definitely not caused by me logging in, and it was missing the `who` output in the body. Taloncrossing: Root Shell Access on: Mon Sep 17 00:58:49 EDT 2007 I started doing some looking, starting with the logs. /var/log/messages contained these lines: Sep 17 00:58:49 vps sshd(pam_unix)[16277]: session opened for user root by (uid= 0) Sep 17 00:59:17 vps sshd(pam_unix)[16277]: session closed for user root /var/log/security contained: Sep 17 00:58:49 vps sshd[16277]: Accepted password for root from 65.98.70.202 port 45053 ssh2 To me this is pretty clear that someone had shell access to root. The session lasted just under 30 seconds. The security log showed no signs of previous failed login attempts. I referred to this topic [url]to try to find anything unusual /var/log/wtmp has a reference somewhere to the accessing IP on grep, but 'who' will not reveal it, the same way that my email message was missing that info. Everything else looks clean, I've run chkrootkit and rkhunter, all the warnings (issued by rkhunter) are benign, the .bash_history is clean (not flushed or any suspicious commands), logs are clean, nothing unusual is running, can't find anything out of place. So basically I'm completely confused and have no idea what to make of all this. Was there a glitch? I can only assume that I am somehow compromised, but don't know what to make of all the data I've gathered. I'd really appreciate opinions from some of you that know this stuff way better than I do. The only action I've taken so far is changing the root password.

Managing Local Root Folder Without Being Able To Access It
I'm planning a website at the moment but I'm wondering about a slight issue, regarding the local root folder of a website. Currently, I'm using Dreamweaver to create a website and I have had no problems of uploading my files to a site through Dreamweaver before. But I will not have access to my computer for about one month every year. However, I have a laptop available during that month. But since my local root folder is located on my stationary computer it seems impossible for me to, in any way, use that laptop to manage my site (upload new files to the server).

VPS With CentOS, LXAdmin, And FTP Server Root Access
I've just signed up for my first VPS with CMBHosting and the person in charge, Chetan Bakhru, seems like a genuinely nice, friendly and helpful person. In other words this new service look promising at the moment. However ... When I signed up I selected his CentOS/LXAdmin plan because I figured that with a pre-installed control panel like LXAdmin I could avoid as much ssh as possible and simply get "up and running" more quickly. Plus I have some experience managing my own CentOS development machine, and I know that a special software package I plan to install runs on CentOS "out of the box" -- so I was expecting good things from this new VPS. But when my account was created LXAdmin did NOT create an FTP admin account for me with root access to my VPS! Instead it created an account that drops me into web server's document root folder, and this is far too limiting for me. I really need FTP root server access -- and I'm surprised that LXAdmin did not provide this access by default. Not only that, but it appears that I cannot create a new FTP account that has any deeper access than the existing admin account! Does anyone with LXAdmin experience know if this is the way LXAdmin normally works by default? Or is this perhaps a special configuration created by my new VPS host?

Single User Can't Access Any Site On My Server
I have a user who says he cannot get to any site on my server from either home or work. He has been a user for many years, and has never had any problems. He has also checked with his IT at work and they confirmed the site is not available. He is computer savvy, so I trust he is telling the truth. His work and home are only 10 miles apart. Do you guys have any ideas what could be happening? Is there a DNS entry wrong somewhere? He can't access the site even when putting in the IP address. Giving Chrooted User Access To Mysqldump
I have a chrooted ftp user that I use on my server. I would like to run a cron job using this user that backs up my mySQL databases. When I execute the job, it complains about date and mysqldump not existing. I was able to fix the date problem simply by copying it from the actual /bin to the chrooted /bin. However, I can't simply copy mysqldump because it depends on several libraries. Anybody know how I can give this chrooted user access to commands that aren't in his chroot?

Access RAM Memory & CPU Usage By User Files
I don't really now how this can be done, but as far as I can remember when I was in shared hosting, they always complaint about memory usage.... but they always know what specific files were cosing the most load on the server. So, I remember I have this count.php file that was constantly hited and the complaint and tell me exactly what file it was cosing the heavy load. This is just an example, but looks like they always knew the specific files that were cosing problems, so what the hell, this can be done! Now that I have my own server I would like to know these things as well, so I can know what files need to be optimized. I searched and searched and searched and... OK, you'll get the point, and I just HAVE NOT find any information on this. Can someone tell me this "secret"? What do you use to get the files that are cosing the most heavy load on a Linux server?

I can't seem to get passed p21 of Database Driven Website by Kevin Yank. But I'm learning Ive got the latest copy and and want to follow it through to see what i can learn (lots I'm sure) Im on a mac osx and am trying to set the root password. He says to do this using terminal in the bin directory of my MySql installation. Where is it? i know basics about getting round terminal i.e changing directories and stuff.

Disabling SSH Root Access But Enabling SSH Keys How To Do That
in order to secure my server against instrusion, i disabled ssh root login and created a user for myself. however in order to access the user i need to enable SSH Password authentication I dont enable password authentication all the time and i keep it disabled unless i need to do something via ssh. Now my question will be, is there a way to keep the user i created and keep the root login disabled and password authentication disabled but use ssh keys for the user i created? I was informed that if i opt to login to ssh via the user i created, the only way to do that is to enable password authentication as it cannot work with ssh keys. is this true? I really hope someone can help me how to use the user i created together with ssh keys so i dont have to enable password authentication when loggin to ssh

MySQL Forgetting User Permissions
Does anyone know what could be the cause of this issue? I located a few others over at cpanel.net that have this problem, but no solution has been found. [url] I am running a VPS server with the following: WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.1-S14304 RedHat 9 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0 phpMyAdmin - 2.9.0.2 MySQL client version: 4.1.10 mysql version: 5.0.27-standard I have a database user that needs "Super Privileges" and so this was done. However, when Cpanel is updated the user permission is reset automatically from "ALL PRIVILEGES" to "USAGE". Here's a look at the database permissions from phpMyAdmin. Code: User Host Password Global privileges Grant hello localhost Yes ALL PRIVILEGES Yes hello_ % No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes hello_ localhost No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes The user "hello" loses its "ALL PRIVILEGES" and switches over to "USAGE" if an update is triggered. Updates to cpanel, creating/removing a database/user, and updating the account password will cause the switch.
