Need a recommendation for Dedicated Hosting in Frankfurt.
Looking at setting up a dedicated server in Europe for my applications. Hetzner.de seems to be a popular, reputable and quality choice but as far as I know, their DC is in Nuremburg.
Due to low latency requirements, I am hoping to find a good provider in Frankfurt (or even in Lamdanet Frankfurt would be ideal).
So if anybody can point me to some large and solid providers in Frankfurt, it would be appreciated.

I own a small hosting business business, around 50 clients on a shared server and 8 clients dedicated. I do not own a firwall I do everything via iptables on each server which is a pain in the ass.
I just recently purchased a Sonicwall Pro 2040, I wanted to know how do you all recommand to set it up? Should I use MIPS / VIPS? should I do Reverse NAT? Transparent Mode?

I need a hosting with .net 3.5 support. Prefer 1G MS sql server space. traffic 10-20G is ok. need a stable hosting with good & capable technical support.
anyone can recommend one? I plan to use discountasp, but their sql is too small, 500M only.

I'm trying to make the best recommendation for a client who has some complicated needs.
They are a university that has opened a public policy and educational office in the national capital.
I do not forsee a substantial amount of traffic being generated on the site - something a simple hosting package from ICDSoft should be able to handle.
However, there are three issues that complicate matters:
1) They may actually have huge spikes in traffic. They anticipate occasional mention in the national TV/radio media and in these cases, they don't want their site to buckle.
2) They do some audio and four video podcasts a month. They have around 50 viewers of each right now (not too substantial) but if they become successful, that number could increase by a lot.
My initial thinking was to try to host these on an outside service - even a free one - like OurMedia.
3) They want to send out email newsletters. Right now they have 850 subscribers for the list for the new location, but as people visit the site, they will sign up more.
I presume they will want to have the email's originate from the same location that the @[url] is to prevent being marked as spam, right? So, if they were to use constantcontact, emails would be from @constantcontact. But if they wanted it to be from their @[url].edu, we would need to send them from the .edu's own SMTP server, right?
I have thought about the 'cloud computing' thing - does that scale up automatically or not?
I also want to know from ICDSoft how much concurrent bandwidth/connections I can get simultaneously (is that the right way to word the question to them?)

I have about 14 domains I'd like to host on one server. They combined use about 50gb of bandwidth, 15,000-20,000 unique visitors per month. About 3-4,000 page impressions per day.
I currently use hostmonster.com and their uptime sucks, and I keep getting suspended for using to much cpu quota.

on a good high-quality colo provider in Frankfurt, Germany? We're looking for an economical provider with a solid reputation.
On a side note, does anyone have any experience testing the quality difference between the "value" "standard" and "premium" bandwidth offered at leaseweb in Amsterdam for colocation? They say there's a latency, uptime and packet loss differential, but Im not sure that's not hype.

I'm trying to decide between two Frankfurt co-location providers and I'm not sure who has the better network when it comes to bandwidth and latency. Does anyone know what a good bandwidth provider is in Germany or what an unreliable one is? Or is there any difference?

Some information about my forum:
I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.
Question # 2 - Has anyone here used Future Hosting for their dedicated server solution?

I am developing a website for a client of mine (the client is a close friend and know's that he is getting a newbie). This site will be larger (project wise) than anything that I have ever done (everything I have done in the past has been FrontPage). We will be using several third party applications that need to run on the server as well as our own custom developed applications. We do not yet know how much access to the server's deeper structures we will need for all of the applications that we want loaded on our server to run. Things we have in mind: oscommerce, mysql, php5, apache, linux, vbulletin, blogger, phpbb, adserver, ect... Would these things run ok on a shared host and would I have full authority to configure them without needing full access to the server? Or will I need access to the entire server (dedicated server) in order to have full customization capabilities? I guess all I am trying to figure out at this point is will shared hosting for a large project limit our abilities to use 3rd party apps, or do most 3rd party application designers build their stuff to work in a shared hosting environment anyway? If we need to get a dedicated server we will, but if we can get away with shared hosting for a while (especially during development when the site will not be generating revenue) it would be nice to avoid the price of a dedicated server. Many thanks for your comments, insight, and expertise! Also, if anyone can sight some common scenarios that may require a dedicated server over a shared hosting plan, that may help me to understand what the limitations of a shared hosting plan vs. a deicated or virtual dedicated server are.

I'm new to the VPS scene, so could someone tell me the difference between VPS and say shared hosting or dedicated hosting? Actually I really like to know what a Virtual Private Server actually is.. I know shared hosting is typically a single account on a server with several hundred other accounts which is used primarily for the sole purpose of hosting websites, and I know that dedicated hosting is functionally the same as colo except that you rent the server, instead of having your own purchased server plugged into some network. So what is VPS?

Do website builders generally go with shared hosting or dedicated server? I mean, if they work on several websites would they get a dedicated server instead of shared? From what I understand through reading shared hosting is basically if you only have one website. So one with multiple websites would go with a dedicated server?

I have a colocated server with cpanel right now.
The cPanel license on my server just expired and I don't feel like paying for another month as there's 3-4 sites on that box that are still active.
I pay $80 a month for the colo with cpanel
So my questions are
1) What do you recommend (reseller vs vps) and who do I go with
2) How do I get my 4 sites off to the new cpanel with an expired license?
If anyone can help that'd be great. Looking to move within 48 hours

I have a E326 from IBM for a few months now (unused). But I need to put in online asap so I need a suggestion if you worked with him as a normal hosting server (no cluster) for the O/S.
I preffer CentOS is it ok with this server ? Otherwise fedora, suse?

I've been reading a lot on this forum lately for a good VPS solution for me, but I've not been too lucky. Perhaps I am just too lazy to read all the posts.
At any rate, I've been with Alpha Red for about a year now and I feel I need to get something new (been having some problems with my mail server and speed, and since it isn't managed, I don't want to worry about fixing it myself). Thus, I am looking for a good VPS solution.
My needs aren't critical, most personal/business type sites, with some client hosting (clients can get very demanding traffic, however, as they will commonly get featured on Digg or YouTube). Because of the clients, I feel I need something clustered with redundancy. I tried out Mosso and just couldn't stomache the simplicity and lack of control.
Disk space would be around 10GB or higher, bandwidth around 500GB or higher (1TB would look amazing to me), and managed is really a plus. However, my budget is only around $150/mo (currently paying $139 for a very slow dedicated server).
I've been tempted to try MediaTemple, but recently looked at Zone.net's clustered VPS, and KnownHost.

opinion about what E-mail would be the best as a autoresponder and email campaign program. Something that can be configured to forward emails to different addresses from different recipients, automatic responces and scheduled email campaigns, all that kind of things. I would prefer an open source solution but if not any I would pay for that.
how to extract the text from an incoming email (through a script maybe) and input to another ougoing email?

I plan to host 20-40 domains that will include ~20 blogs total and roughly 20 SQL DB's. I anticipate 5-10 GB traffic / month.
With these requirements, can I realistically make use of a shared hosting plan (like HostGator's)? They claim unlimited domains, though I'm not sure how far I can really take this.

I am planning to get 2 uplinks for a cluster of servers. So, there will be 2 different
IP subnets and 2 different uplinks. I want the switch:
1. To be able to switch providers when any one of them is down
2. To be able to load balance the traffic (optional)
Also, I prefer to use Cisco.

Something less then US$ 150 for the start and an option to move to a full blown (4 Cores, 4GB) dedicated server later would be optimal.
Requirements:

There will also be download links to copyright protected material but this are only links, there is no copyright infringement on the server itself which is absolutely legal at least in Europe.

I have been hosting with automatedvps.com for a few months now.
I heartly recomend them.
They host windows 2003/2008 and centOS.
I use windows 2008 which is faster then windows 2003.
They have the best deal I found at the time and since.
Support is friendly, avilable by email and phone. I'm very pleased with it, for instance upon my request they reinstalled the OS at no extra charge.
CPU, memory and internet all work fast.

I wanted to recommend and give a review of my service with Steadfast. Before I went with steadfast I read WHT almost everyday, looking at different hosts. Steadfast has exceeded my expectations by far.
I have a basic shared account but the speed and service make me feel like it is a dedicated account. My site is still in construction so I wont give the address but I have never experience any lag in loading or it ever being offline.
Whenever I submit a ticket, simply because I have a question, I have never waited more than a few minutes. It is genius. I think that Steadfast's business plan is to have the best equipment and software with the best service and reliability so that their customers stay and say good things about them. Sounds like a plan to me.
One of the things that I like the most is that Karl, owner and operator, actually knows what he is talking about is always happy to help.
I had never paid for hosting before or had a domain name and thought that the control panel and learning curve of hosting was gonna be hard but it is well organized and everything runs so perfectly that I almost never need to log into the control panel.

my company is looking for a colo provider in the Bay Area. We have done some research and the final choice comes down to these 2 companies: internap and ethr.net.
Price wise, Internap is slightly more expensive on the bandwidth, setup cost and cabinet rental.
Could anyone provide some recommendation based on personal experience? Our service is live video streaming, therefore we are looking for good network with low latency and with a bandwidth of 100mbps.
