i have nameservers in my domain (let's say [url]n [url] that registered for my first vps, i want to make 2 more nameservers from my domain for my second vps [url]n[url]so i have 1 domain with 4 nameservers in 2 vps (2 ns in each vps), it would be like this.
[url]= vps1
[url]= vps1
[url]= vps2
[url]= vps2
ns1 n ns2 is working (can connect to the first vps), but ns3 n ns4 isn't work (cannot connect to the second vps), in different way i tried to make ns3 n ns4 for the second vps with different domain and it's work, it would be like this.
[url]= vps1
[url]= vps1
[url]= vps2
[url]= vps2
so, i wanna ask can i use 4 nameservers in 1 domain for 2 vps? i mean use one domain for more that one ip (different engine)

I have two VPS packages.
Both are running exactly the same stuff - Centos 5.3, cPanel/WHM, etc
One domain (example.com), already pointing to first server (server1)
Nameservers (ns1 & ns2.example.com) are set up in WHM of server1.
I then bought a second VPS (server2). I want to be able to set up subdomains of my main domain (sub.example.com) on the second VPS. I also want my existing nameservers to work for server2.
This way, I can provide subdomain packages to people and utilise both servers, and I can also provide the same nameservers to people regardless of the server they are on.
I went to the clustering section of the WHM's, I enabled, and I can see server1 in the WHM of server2, and the other way around. I selected Sync Changes under DNS Role. However I don't think that's really done anything.
How can I get this to work? Sorry if I've written it in a confusing manner.

I am currently building a site for a customer who currently has a website hosted somewhere on a shared ip address. I need to add them to my server so i can build their MYSQL database and start using it.
is their a way i can still change their nameservers to my server but still have their domain forward to the old site while im working on the new one?
So I guess my question is how can i forward a domain to an site with a shared ip address?

I have a domain: myname.com
whose nameservers have been already update to the new host's nameservers: ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com
The new NS for the domain was already propagated over 1 day ago.
However, it seems that myname.com is not yet resolving at myhost.
How can I check whether myname.com is on ns1.myhost.com nameservers?
I have yet no shell access, and it is shared hosting.

I'm stuck. First let me explain how my current sites are setup. I have all of my personal domains through GoDaddy at the moment. I set each domain to point to GoDaddys default hosting nameservers. Then I create DNS A Records for my domain pointing to the IP of my webserver. That works.
I recently purchased a domain name from a backordering service. This domain is with a different registrar. They do not offer any kind of managed DNS and will not create A records for me. My server is not setup as a nameserver so I can't do either. I also can't transfer the domain over to GoDaddy because of ICANNs two month rule.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is there a service out there where I can point to their nameservers and they will send traffic to my servers IP?
I'm not as sharp on this topic as I probably should be

just purchased a reseller hosting to provide a value added service for my seo clients .
I requested my domain registrar to setup my own nameserver i.e, the site i have registered for reseller web hosting nameserver, lets say it as ns1.myresellersite.com, ns2.myresellersite.com
I got a confirmation from domain registrar support that its been setup in my account. I have checked using my reseller site nameserver for a test site and the site is working fine and also shows my nameserver in whois details.
now my problem is i wanted to host a site so that new clients can go to my web hosting site i.e; www.myresellersite.com and can purchase my hosting plans through checkout.
I tried to park domain in my cpanel of reseller hosting but it says
"Error from park wrapper: You cannot park your main domain! "

I have recently just purchased an unmanaged vps from poundhost. I have never used a vps before so we shelled out for a WHM control panel! The issue now is that we do not have a nameserver set up or any main domain to use as a nameserver.
We have the main IP address and two additional IP's given to us by poundhost, how do I use these to start hosting and managing websites?

Say if I have a domain www.example.com.
And two completely different physical dedicated servers with IPs 11.11.11.11 and 22.22.22.22
Is it possible to make a nameserver,
NS1.EXAMPLE.COM (33.33.33.33)
NS2.EXAMPLE.COM (44.44.44.44)
^^^^^^^^^
(The two IPs of the nameserver have been assigned to server 11.11.11.11)
to point to 11.11.11.11 and have two other name servers
NS3.EXAMPLE.COM (55.55.55.55)
NS4.EXAMPLE.COM (66.66.66.66)
^^^^^^^^
(The two IPs of the nameserver have been assigned to server 22.22.22.22)
to point to 22.22.22.22 and have two other name servers
I am pretty sure this wont work for some reason but I cant figure out why

I just got a VPS plan for the first time where I want to host several new websites. In the past I've used individual accounts to host a couple of other websites and haven't paid much attention to nameserver setup, just configured at my registrar whatever I was given from the hosting service.
So, I got a brand new domain to act as the host of the rest of the domains I'm setting up: www.example.com.
In the VPS I have setup this one as the default domain for nameservers: ns1.example.com
ns2.example.com
Question 1:
- Can I setup ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com as the nameserververs for www.example.com ? i.e. nameserver is used for the same domain in which it is named. Even if this is possible, is it a good idea or would it be better to host it somewhere else? When I try to define those as the nameservers in Godaddy I get the error message Nameserver not registered. What am I missing?
Other DNS questions
Question 2:
- If I host my nameservers in my VPS, I will need a separate IP for each one (ns1, ns2...and so on). Can I still use those IP's to actually host websites, or do I need additional IP's to host the actual sites? Any value in keeping each IP dedicated to a nameserver?
For example:
IP#1 = used for ns1
IP#2 = used for ns2
IP#1 = used for website 1
IP#2 = used for website 2
Question 3:
- Are DNS backup services valuable if I host my own nameservers? Any suggestions on good quality providers? Price not an issue.
Question 4:
- If I used DNS backup services for example.com will that apply to ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com which I used for my VPS? and therefore will be applicable to other domains I host? Does this make sense? Or would I need a separate backup for each domain I host? Can I use one backup for multiple domains?
Question 5:
- What are the drawbacks of hosting multiple sites under the same IP? I control all sites under these IPs
Question 6:
- Can somebody recommend a good resource to learn how IP, DNS, nameservers, etc work? Any book, paid website, video... anything ? While there's a ton of info on the web, all is scattered and none seems to be too detailed enough for somebody starting to learn about this.

Will the nameservers work if the nameservers are pointed to a parking page?
For example:
I need to change my nameservers to ns1.mywebhost.com and ns2.mywebhost.com
(nameservers are made up)
These nameservers are from my web hosting service provider. When I visit the nameservers, it shows up a parking page from a domain parking service (let's say NameDrive parking page)
Will the nameservers function correctly and will my websites work? I have this question because usually the nameservers that I use, they always point to a CP page or something like that rather than a parking page.

Will domains still function if they have differing nameservers at the registry from what they do on the server side? i.e. domain1.com pointing to ns1/2.example.com at the registry but on the server the DNS zone has it as ns1/2.example2.com, baring in mind both sets of nameservers are pointing at the same server.

I have purchased a reseller account from www.reseller.net (not real names) They provide me with ns1.reseller.net and ns2.reseller.net, as well as the two associated ip addresses. They tell me to use these 2 ip addresses to set up my own custom nameservers.
I want my own nameservers - ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. Tech support at www.reseller.net tells me thay cannot help me. They tell me to go to the company where I purchased and manage the domain name www.mydomain.com.
I do, and find the control panel page where I -CREATE NAME SERVER-. This I do, and I use the above mentioned ip addresses. This seems to work. When I go back to this control panel page the next day, the entries I made are still there. Yet, I cannot "ping" my nameservers.
Now what? I have tried "google-ing" and not being a super-tech, I get lost. It appears that I must make some changes in my WHM, (I have a WHM...), but I have no access to any "Server" settings.
I have another reseller account with a totally different company, and when I asked them to set up custom nameservers, they just "did it" for me. Again, the hosting company was not related to the domain registering company.

I am experimenting with setting up my first unmanaged dedicated server.
I have directadmin as a cp.
I have 5 separate IP's available to me.
I went to my domain registrar and set up host as ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com using my first two IP's that are available.
My question now is what is the best way to use my three remaining IP's? Do I set them up as completely different domain nameservers ie. ns1.otherdomain.com etc.? Out of those three, I thought you need two IP's per nameserver domain? Is that wrong thinking?
I don't want any relationship shown in a whois dns info between the ips.

I just have a question on setting up Nameservers in WHM. Is it necessary to add an "A" entry to the name servers, and if so, do I need to do so on both nameservers, or just the first one?
ns1.mysite.com
ns2.mysite.com
What's the reason/ necessarily for adding a A entry to a nameserver, and can it be skipped?
