My Domains Become Randomly Unavailable For Short Periods
Jun 21, 2009
Some of my Linux(WHM/Cpanel) hosted domains have a weird problem. They randomly become unavailable to me for periods of half hour to 2 hours. During this time I get a server not found error and I cannot access the domains through FTP either. However if I use a proxy or try to reach the domain through another server using RDC I am able to reach it.

some customers contact with me and told me that since 2-3 last days, they can't reach sites wich are hosted on my server(for a liitle time) for example 2 hours and then again after 5hours for 10 minutes and etc.first i thought that was problem with their isp but i dont think so because we use the same isp with some of them(customers) and me and other friends of me we reached the same sites at the same time when the others(customers) can't. do you think its something with the apache in my server?blocks some users? some ideas that maybe has to do with the problem i mention?i think that is sommething with the apache.any ideas white might be?

I registered my ns1/ns2 at godaddy already, I THINK I have configured the ns1/ns2 with their ips in the server, however, I think the ips for ns1/ns2 are not correctly configured in my server, as otherwise, I would be able to browse the ips in the browser and they would go to my server apache page or the like, the main ip obviously work fine and go to apache.
what should I do for the ns1 and ns2 ip addresses to go into my server, I think this is the problem why my dns are not working
I think the ip addresses are not the problem as I checked them at dnsstuff.com and when I check my ns1/ns2 it displays the ip and their info, which is my provider info, seem's they are very valid.

I have a short list of hosts I'm considering for either my main or backup host. I am currently with A Small Orange in Atlanta who seems to be fairly stable.
Here's the list:
iHubNet.com
MidPulse.com
SharkSpace.com
AspirationHosting.com
I like that iHubNet has their own servers. The comments that folks like Matt A make on this board to be helpful have caught my attention.
My web site has a domain and two parked domains. About 50 subdomanins and is typically 300 to 450MB in size. It uses about that much in bandwidth a month, mostly from clients downloading audio mp3's of voiceover work. The site staying online is important.
I just don't seem to read much on this board about some of these hosts and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

I have been with epicvps for past 3 months we are under un-managed plan, but the staff have been pretty supportive than we had actually anticipated its almost like being under a semi-managed service
There hasn't been long down time on our vps so far and the service has pretty good for the cheapest prices they offer around
Usually most of their live support staff have good knowledge about sales and support which is an additional advantage for any one who would wish to join their service
not to mention their speeds its been great
Though I wouldn't like to interpret my domain over here, I am more than pleased to announce I am very happy to announce their excellent service
We had earlier worked with 2 other non-managed vps services, which were no more than ordinary but epic has been fantastic
We are looking forward for a longer healthier relationship with epicvps
My suggestion on epic :Go for it,one of the best I have seen around
I had searched for a long time for reliable and cheaper vps and I am glad I am at the right place for it
Good work epic team hope you could maintain your standard may be increase your standard even more to reach the peak

I’m have always used a Windows VPS in the US so I can test my websites from the US and other websites. Since I’m only using this VPS for Internet access, I have a goal to pay as little as possible for the VPS.
I did see another thread here at WHT about [url] and they had a VERY good price on a VPS with 512 MB of RAM, 15 GB of disk, 1000 GB of BW and Windows 2003 server with Plesk 30 domain.
The setup was average, about 5 hours from payment. But my VPS was placed on a VPS node with 60-90% average load, and the VPS was VERY slow.
I opened a ticket, and they moved my VPS to another VPS node with lower CPU load (around 30%), and the VPS speed was OK.
But I did have some problems with plesk, and the only way logging in to Plesk was to poen Plesk control panel direct on the VPS.
After some days I did not have access to Remote Desktop anymore. I did get the message that I had more RDC connections that was allowed.
I opened a ticket and they did reply and work on this problem over several days: .....

We have a rack with a bunch of Dell servers in them. The distance between the front vertical mounting brackets and the rear vertical mounting brackets is just over 28 inches (715 mm). We've always used Dell static rails they and they have always fitted perfectly.
We have recently received some new Poweredge 2970s with Rapid / Versa rails, and it seems that the front and rear mounting brackets are only 24 inches (609 mm) apart.
Am I missing something? I can't find any way of adjusting the length of the Rapid / Versa rails.
It looks like we are going to have to pull all the gear out of the rack, move the rear mounting brackets forward, and put everything back in. This is a real nuisance (and I would do pretty much anything to avoid it).

Let me first start by saying that I have read a lot of reviews on WHT about various VPS providers. I wasn't sure which provider I liked the best and a lot of reviews came to different conclusions. My decision came down to Slicehost. I really liked that Slicehost is a VPS solution made for developers and that Slicehost has solid community support. But the wait is what killed Slicehost chances of snagging me as customer.
I started digging more on WHT and finally came across a promo that BigVPS offered to WHT members. I read more about BigVPS on WHT (their website leaves little to be desired).
I noticed that one of their main employees, Ray, writes with professionalism and was quick to address each WHT concerns and questions regarding BigVPS.
I finally took the plunge and decided to sign up. I signed up for their 512 MB VPS plan with 500 GB of bandwidth. I have been a customer for a little over a month now and I have been very pleased. Just recently, I had an issue with the Xen Debian kernel and IPTables support and Ray was quick to point me in the right direction on how to solve the problem I was having. Ray has always written with clarity and professionalism. I really respect that.
So far I am a happy BigVPS (Color4Jax) customer and I wanted to share my experience with all!

I run a website that uses a GoDaddy Virtual Private Server & Plesk. The website sends emails to alert users of various events. For the most part, this works but I occasionally capture the following error message:
Error in processing. The server response was: Requested action aborted: This mail account has sent too many messages in a short amount of time. Please try later.
Can the number of messages sent over X number of minutes be set via Plesk? If so, how?

Suddenly my server stop to accept mail from outside. Here you have the logs of mail.info
Feb 20 14:26:02 xxx postfix/smtpd[5581]: 17098E1CCB: milter-reject: DATA from mail2.email-o-matic.com[217.116.24.xxx]: 451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later; from=<empresas@xxx.es> to=<whatever@whatwever.es> proto=ESMTP helo=<mail2.email-o-matic.com>
It seems it is a milter problem as in the line I can read "milter-reject"
Also I have a lot of lines like this:
Feb 20 14:27:34 dv2 greylisting filter[9152]: Starting greylisting filter...
Feb 20 14:27:36 dv2 greylisting filter[9154]: Starting greylisting filter...
Feb 20 14:27:37 dv2 greylisting filter[9165]: Starting greylisting filter...
I can go to control panel and stop plesk milter but I see these lines on mail.info
Feb 20 14:30:04 xxx postfix/smtpd[8845]: warning: connect to Milter service inet:127.0.0.1:12768: Connection refused
And 4.7.1 still there
Feb 20 14:30:03 xxx postfix/smtpd[7289]: NOQUEUE: milter-reject: CONNECT from 223.179.15.xx.dynamic.jazztel.es[37.15.179.xx]: 451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later; proto=SMTP
Maybe is a port (12768) connection error? How I can test that port?
This KB article does not solve anything as the load of the server is 0.1-0.5 [URL] ....
A temporal fix is to edit /etc/postfix/main.cf file comment these two lines:
smtpd_milters = , inet:127.0.0.1:12768
non_smtpd_milters = , inet:127.0.0.1:12768
And restart postfix (/etc/init.d/postfix restart)

One particular server I have out of a few (same data center / network) is acting up network wise. The server load is minimal, so its not that. The NOC confirmed no network issues either, which makes sense since its one server out of about 4 that have this issue. All have the same exact specs, o/s, Cpanel, etc.

I'm running a CentOS 6 server with Plesk 11.0.9 installed. It's only being used for dev purposes with only a couple vhosts running on it. All of the vhosts are using PHP - there are a few WordPress sites and Zend Framework 2 applications running. Up until a few months ago it was also running a high traffic WordPress site, but that's no longer the case.
This server has been running without problems for over a year. A few days ago I first started noticing 503 errors (Service Temporarily Unavailable) on accessing one of the vhosts from the web browser.
I logged on through ssh and noticed the load was a bit higher than I expected (nothing crazy though). All other vhosts using PHP also gave me the same error. The only vhost that was working normal was a Ruby on Rails app (Redmine).
I also did a netstat -napt and noticed many connections from two or three IP addresses. I checked their geographical location and after blocking them through iptables the problem seemed to have gone away.
Now it's a few days later and the same problem started popping up. I checked again through netstat and noticed that again a whole bunch of connections from only a handful of IP addresses were connected to Apache.
When I was digging deeper I noticed that some of those IP addresses were what looks to me like other servers (at least they're running Apache). I'm suspecting they are hacked servers and they're trying to use my server to send spam or some other type of evil.
I just blocked those new IP addresses in iptables and that seemed to have solved the problem for now again, but I want to solve the root of the problem.
So my questions are:
1) How can I find out to what vhost those clients are connected?
2) Why does Apache stop working with not that many client connections, when it used to serve thousands of visitors at the same time when that big site was still running on this server?
3) What could they possibly be using my server for? The first time it happened I thought that they found some leaking WordPress plugin to use to spam people, but today I checked and there's barely anything in the mail queue.

I have a question regarding greylisting.
I activated greylisting on my mailserver and took a look in the logfiles.
The mail are temporary rejected with the following log message / statuscode:
451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later;
Mails from my server to other servers are greylisted with messages like:
451 4.7.1 message delayed, see http://www.greylisting.org ;
452 Greylisted. Please try again after some time.
451 4.7.1 <E-MAIL-ADRESSE>: Sender address rejected: Greylisting in action. Please try again later.
Is it possible to change this log message at my server?

Every now and then I will attempt to load my Plesk 12, CentOS6 Website, and receive the following error:
503, Service Temporarily Unavailable.
It requires a restart of nginx and apache in order to remove the error. It then can come back in a week, or in a few hours. Its completely random. I also can't find anything in the logs.
This started happening after I enabled backups, then later disabled backups because of problems with my backup server. However this does not occur when my scheduled backup was.

He got this error:Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. The following recipient(s) cannot be reached.Server error: '550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local'
But we are sure the recipient mailboxes exist and work fine!I checked this link: URL....It dosen't work for this case.

The problem is that it switches from running to mounted without me having anything to do with it. It seems to be quite randomly, for example this morning at 1.42 am. This happens once a day and stops my vps and therefore my website - which is quite annoying.
I checked for log files or anything, but there was nothing mentioning resources or anything.
Does anyone have a clue what this might be? If I cannot fix the problem there is still the opportunity to just start the vps once it goes to status mounted. How would I automate this?
I am using Virtuozzo and Plesk.
