What Companies Offer Monthly Service

May 18, 2008

I just spent three hours digging through a pile of hosting companies trying to pick one, and although lots of them looked nice, were recommended by plenty of people and cost a reasonable amount they required 6months-a year up front. Some of them had a money back guarantee for 30/45/60 days, but what good is that if I have to cough up $60-100+ bucks to decide for a month?

So I'm looking for a list of companies who sell hosting monthly, not just at a monthly fee figured from the bigger time frame you pay for.

Name Server After Migrating

Jun 6, 2008

I am in the process (or my server manager is) of migrating my server from one provider to another. Once all the files have been migrated and everything is "set" on the new server, what do I need to do with respect to the name servers? I currently have 2 name servers NS1.Mymainwebsite.com and NS2.Mymainwebsite.com. Each registered with an IP address from my current server host. Once I migrate, do I only need to re-register the name servers under my main website with their new IPs? Or does every person with a web site domain on my server need to "re-register" the IP address of the name servers.

Migrating To New Server WHM

Feb 22, 2008

I'm currently running various sites on a single server but cause the requirements are no longer satisfied by the current configuration i started renting a more powerful server in a different provider. Both servers are running CPANEL/WHM. I have migrated sites from WHM servers before but the problem i had was having to update all domains to point to the dns servers of the new server - which is harder than it sounds when the sites (and domains) belong to clients. Is is possible to move to the new server without having to update the domain registrars?

How Does One Offer CPanel To Dedicated Server Customer

Mar 10, 2008

How do I offer cPanel to a dedicated server customer or any kind of CP?

I checked out cpanel.net and they have a "Rent or Buy licenses" and also "Purchase license" link. Those seem expensive. But how do the rest in the industry charge only $10 or even $5 for a cPanel install for dedicated server customers?

I want to migrate my old server to a new more powerful one. There is only one board running on the server.

Both servers have WHM/CPanel and I've been told it would make things easier.

I have a few questions about server migration :

- Is it possible to avoid downtime ?

- If I leave my board on the old server active, is it possible not to lose data ?(posts and topics)

Apache :: Migrating Server / Host

Our business website [URL] .... needs to switch hosts and I am researching exactly what I will need to keep in mind for doing so.

Current host: hostonfiber.com (managed)

Migrating to: GoDaddy (managed, Dedicated linux based server)
OS: Linux CentOS 64-BitCPU: Intel® Core™ i5 - 4 coresRAM: 8 GBStorage: 2 x 1 TB hard drivesBandwidth: 10 TB per month

I have never switched servers before and would like to make certain there are no issues or downtime with the migration process.

Before I get started I am looking to compile a comprehensive checklist or order of operations so to speak, things I will need to keep in mind, technical info I will need to gather and processes I will need to fulfill in order to make certain the website functions as it should for all applications.

Migrating From A Dedicated Server To A Reseller Account

Jul 30, 2007

I have a dedicated server which I need to migrate all sites to a reseller account on a different host.
It comes down to 6 sites that I must not lose any emails.

On the source server, I have full access to it. It's CentOS, WHM, cPanel, etc. On the destination reseller account (downtownhost), I have access to WHM, and individual cPanel. But I can't see any transfer or restore options on the WHM, though on the individual cPanel account, I see a restore option which states:

Quote:

This feature allows you to restore parts of your cPanel by uploading your partial backup zip file(s) that you downloaded from the backup feature.

The following can be restored:

* Home Directory
* MySQL Databases
* Email forwarders configuration
* Email filters configuration

My plan is so far:

1) Generate a full backup for each site on the source server.

2) Create the accounts on the destination reseller account. (Is it possible before I update the IP of the nameserver to point to the new server?)

3) Restore the sites with this wizard I mentioned above in each cPanel.

4) Change the nameserver host IP to the new server.

5) Hold my fingers and bless every living creature for a smooth move.

if I could do this any better, trying not to lose any emails in the process.

Compare Dedicated Server Companies/File Hosting Services

Apr 11, 2008

I own a semi-popular downloads website which I host on one server while the actual files/downloads are hosted on another server. This downloads server is very low-end ( AMD Sempron 3000, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD, CentOS with lighttpd, no control panel, etc.) and is connected via a 100Mbit shared line with a 3300GB bandwidth limit. Originally, I had it on a 10Mbit dedicated unmetered line but I hoped that by upgrading to the 100Mbit, I'd get better burst speeds, faster transfers/downloads, and a bit more bandwidth in general. Well, this doesn't seem to be the case so I'm looking for a new server or file hosting service hopefully on a better and faster network.

Right now, I'm considering the following companies/services:

* Profithost.net - Decent Dedicated server with nice bandwidth
* Redhostservers.com - OK Dedicated server with awesome bandwidth
* Server4you.com - Great Dedicated server with good bandwidth

* File-services.com - Decently priced pure file hosting with OK features
* MegaUpload Business account with Hotlink Quota - Decently priced pure file hosting with nice features

Offering Ruby on Rails on a regular shared environment server. I can easily install this but the question is, should I install it?

Should I dedicated one server alone for a Ruby on Rails installation?

Is it worth installing? If you have used ROR in the past, what is your experience

regarding it...does it raise conversion rates?

Looking For Provider That Can Offer A /24 (256) IP Addresses

Oct 2, 2008

Hi everyone - I'm looking for a dedicated service provider (US based) that can provide at least 256 IP addresses on a per server basis

I would also like the provider to offer 100mbit and preferably 1Gbit connections. If possible I would like to keep my costs under $200 a month, not sure if that's realistic but ya never know.

Total storage and data transfer limits aren't really an issue.

I found a company server . lu that provides a /64 IPv6 allocation, which is mindblowing - but they're europe based so that won't work.

What Is The Max Bandwidth A 100/10 Port Can Offer

if it can reach 50%,it is already very good.

because a user want to rent 50M bandwidth from me,

i worry if my switch may really reach 50M on the 100/10 port for him,

my firend ask me had better use a 1000/100/10 port for the case.

my switch is d-link des-3526.

How To Offer 100% Uptime With Cpanel

Apr 18, 2009

thinking about it's to find some solution for offer 100% uptime for my customers.

Actually I have 4 servers running cpanel, my idea it's to setup another server where I put 4 VPS with a copy of the servers, and in case them fails, I up the VPS.

Real dedicated server will be ns1.

And the VPS will be ns2.

What I don't know how to manage it's the cpanel license, because if I want to have a copy of the servers in VPS I have to pay that licenses sure?

Also, today I see the DNS ONLY cpanel, could be better option? I'm also testing some cloud systems like mosso cloud servers and gogrid, but this don't allow me to be 100% and free of hardware failures.

And yes, not 100% because it's impossible, but 99,9999999%

Do You Know Any Host That Offer RTO Servers

Mar 29, 2009

I saw on Pacific Rack they have a section where they offer Rent To Own (RTO) servers. This is what I've been looking for and would like to know if any other host have this kind of offering?

From what I read from the site, RTO servers feature server financing over a set period of months, allowing a capital strapped customer from the initial large expense of purchasing a server. RTO server's are subscribed to as dedicated servers with part of your monthly payment going torwards the cost of the server. Once the set period of months has been reached, the server ownership is transferred to you. You then convert to a colocation plan, benefiting from asset ownership. Once you own the server, you can do what you wish with it, including having it shipped to you. (taken from PR website)
