Mapping Subdomains To Different VPS's
I was wondering if it is possible to host subdomains on different VPS's? Here is what I am trying to do
PrimaryDomain.com -> Hosted on VPS0
|
- Subdomain1.primaryhost.com -> Hosted on VPS1
|
- Subdomain2.primaryhost.com -> Hosted on VPS2
VPS0, VPS1, VPS2 have different IP addresses.
I tried using A records to point subdomains to different VPS but VPS requires a "primary domain" looks like. Do let me know if this is possible. I tried google but not sure what exactly I shoudl be searching for.

Wildcard DNS Subdomains Working, But Existing Subdomains Not
I've set up the affiliate manager from jrox.com for a client of mine. This includes the setup of wildcard DNS so that each affiliate can have username.clientssite.com and have it count their clicks - which works properly. What isn't working properly is that he also has forums.hissite.com, which is loading the main website page instead of his forums. He is using cpanel to add the subdomain, and it isn't failing, so I'm not sure what's going on with it. Here is the relative section from the httpd file. Invalid Command 'php_flag' - After Recompiling PHP & Apache?
After I recompiled Apache and PHP using easyapache from cPanel, we started getting all these weird errors. I'm getting a few people now complaining about not being able to enable register_globals. I believe (after searching) that having this enabled is a big security risk and shouldn't need to be used. However, some people apparently where using .haccess and php_flag to enable this. I did find on a few places that people can create their own php.ini file to emulate what was previously done with .htaccess? After searching around.. I found out that Register Globals can become a security risk based on the scripts configuration that uses it. This feature normally can be enabled via .htaccess using the glad "php_flag register_globals On". Creating a file called php.ini inside the directory of the site with the flag "register_globals=on" I believe will also enable this option. To enable this option on a global scale, you can edit '/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/etc/php.ini', but its not recommended. However.. We are unable to get the php.ini concept to work. Is there something I need to do to enable/allow users to do this for their account?

Any 'easy' Smtp / Pop / Imap Package Or Installer W/o Having To Read Up On Exim Etc.?
any 'easy' smtp / pop / imap package or installer w/o having to read up on exim etc.? I want an email server quickly, w/o having to become an expert... I'd go w/ a hosted service, but I open allot of pop3 connections... (program I use downloads one email, closes connection, reopens... repeat)... There's lots of cookbooks out there, but they require quite a bit more time commitment (and configurability) than I want / need. Is there any dumbified installs available? I tried with webmin, but even that wants me to manually configure a postfix / imap server bridge.=

BoxVPS = Useless | STAY AWAY From This 'company'
URL: http://www.boxvps.com Their recent promotion thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=889733 Extremely non-professional service. Took them 48 hours to setup my VPS. Also had to create a support ticket. And when it was finally delivered, there was no DirectAdmin on it. Specially disturbing, since I actually paid for a monthly license. Not to mention that their responses are very vague. They claim to apply the promotions (triple disk space, double bandwidth) 24 hours after they setup the VPS. I have no idea why they do that. Moreover, they have false advertising on their VPS page (Instant Activation..where it should read 'We don't activate your VPS unless you create a support ticket). A speedtest from the VPS showed that the VPS is capable of bursting to a maximum of 10mbps, while average speed is barely 2mbps. Stay away from these guys. They're potential scammers. They WILL scam.. sooner or later.

Registrar's Domain Name Server Service For My VPS?
I'm wondering is it possible to use RegisterFly's DNS server for my VPS. I only have 1 website on the VPS, but I want to increase the reliability of my site overall and thought if it were possible to give the DNS operations to my Registrar, who probabily really does have seperate DNS servers, this would be a good move. Since it would allow me to disable BIND (freeing up resources/memory), and put the DNS operations to quite possibly a more reliable set of servers (since my 2 DNS servers are actually just my 1 VPS) What are the Pros/Cons of this type of arrangement? So I need to know, can it technically be done, and what zones entries I need to create.

Cannot Send Mail Through VPS SMTP Server. The Usual Fixes Didn't Work.
Over the past week, the SMTP server on my VPS has been hanging whenever I try to send an email from my computer. It'll eventually work again, but now it's been down for the count for about 18 hours. Tech support keeps on recommending minor fxes and issuing standard responses like "try disanbling your firewall" and the like, but nothing works. I have already told them this: * I know _you_ can probably send POP/SMTP mail through my server. I can't. * Mozilla Thunderbird will connect and send mail through other POP/SMTP servers.. Not my server here. * I can connect to _receive_ email, but I can't send it. * My ISP (SBC/AT&T ADSL) does not block outgoing mail to port 25 on my account; I had the block removed. * I've got an exim server running on port 26, too. Doesn't make a difference. * I tried connecting from another ISP (my work PC). Still can't send mail. * I tried using IP addresses instead of my domain name. Doesn't work. * I didn't change any account names, passwords or anything like that. * I tried other email clients. Can't send mail with them, either. * The exim queue has very few messages in it. Clearing the queue didn't work. * I disabled firewalls. Didn't help. Besides, I was able to connect to other mail servers - just not my VPS here. * There are no typos in any of the account or general configuration settings in my client. Nothing changed. One day I could send mail, now I'm having problems. I keep saying this, and keep attaching entried from exim_mainlog with error messages like this PROVING that I can't send mail: 2007-02-01 08:26:00 H=adsl***** [*****]:1294 I=[*****]:25 incomplete transaction (connection lost) from for *****@gmail.com 2007-02-01 08:26:00 unexpected disconnection while reading SMTP command from adsl***** [*****]:1294 I=[*****]:25 2007-02-01 08:26:17 SMTP connection from [*****]:1344 I=[*****]:25 (TCP/IP connection count = 1) 2007-02-01 08:29:34 H=adsl***** [*****]:1344 I=[*****]:25 incomplete transaction (connection lost) from for *****@gmail.com 2007-02-01 08:29:34 unexpected disconnection while reading SMTP command from adsl***** [*****]:1344 I=[*****]:25 Any ideas? I think tech support at my end has given up; it's been hours since I last heard from them, and that was just to say that they updated everything to the current version, and disable the firewall. (Again!) Didn't work. So, before I pack my bags and find another VPS host, what should I do? Having outgoing SMTP email is a MUST; not having it is a deal-breaker.

Domain Mapping ..
I have a new domain for an online store which I am trying to map to a certain web server(launchsplash_com) for just their Launch Page to show up as homepage when my website is accessed (the ecommerce software has its own default homepage, which I prefer not to show up). The registrar for the domain is Godaddy but hosting is done with a different company - Server Intellect. The issue is mapping my domain to Launchsplash's server does not seem to work. And I am not sure if I am doing the right settings through the host control panel. As per LaunchSplash company's instruction - I create a CNAME record name - www_mydomainname_com and CNAME record data - mydomainname_LaunchSplash_com Since the domain is not being hosted with Godaddy, the total dns control for making dns changes is disabled in godaddy control panel. I do not wish to do the forwarding option, since that shows up the forwarded domain name.

Domain Mapping Clarification
i currently have a site on a .co.uk domain. my client would like the "main" domain to be .com instead. I should add that BOTH .com and .co.uk will be used. The company is advertising itself as thesite.com, so people will associate the business with www.thesite.com, not .co.uk. I have both domains, and I understand domain mapping is used for this purpose, but before I go and screw up anything, could someone please clarify. Is it possible to "domain map" so that visitors go to www.thesite.com, they will see the website as .com, but the site itself will actually be on the ".co.uk" server. I don't particuarly want to transfer the site from the .co.uk to the .com and set up a redirect. I know I could use a redirect .com to .co.uk, but the client specifically wants ".com" to be the site visitors view. (they bought .co.uk and set the site up first, just to be annoying)

Is Domain Mapping Good Or Bad?
If you want to use several domains for your single website, from SEO-reasons or from any other reasons (which?) is it better to forward your domain to that sub-domain or should it be mapped in the DNS in CNAME? mydomain.com mydomain.com/nameoftheotherdomain = nameoftheotherdomain.com It's not the same issue like with Google Apps, whether you should use your own domain, e.g. sites.yourdomain.com or whether you should use the domain offered by Google for your Sites. The reason is that theotherdomain.com is a part of the single website called yourdomain.com, thus, it is not an external website hosted somewhere else.

Remote Web Folder Mapping Technology - Does It Exist?
Currently my companies global website “domain.com” is hosted in a shared hosted environment, our own U.S. website “us.domain.com” is hosted at our datacenter. Here is my question, we have a redesign project. My goal is to lose the “us.domain.com” sub-domain and move our new U.S. site under the "domain.com" domain using a “/us/” folder delineation. Is it possible with modern web server technology to setup a something like virtual directory/folder, redirect, alias or remote mapping of the “/us/” folder that points to a separate server hosting our U.S. site outside of shared hosting environment for our "domain.com" site, e.g.? • Domain.com/<global website content/structure > - Hosted at in a shared environment on Web App Server running Coldfusion • Domain.com/us/<U.S. website content/structure> - Hosted at our datacenter on Web App Server running IBM WebSphere Unfortunately I cannot merge the two sites together based on the web server technology and lack of budget/resources to accomplish.

Subdomains
I know this question has been asked loads of times, but I don't seem to be able to find the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking to host the forum part of my site on another server. The main part of my site is on a shared hosting account. Which is fine. I'm adding a forum to the site, and was planning on hosting this on my VPS account as a subdomain. As my shared hosting package is only small. I've edited the DNS with my domain registration provider and added a A record for forum.mydomain.com pointing to the ip of my VPS account. I then created a account on my VPS for the domain/subdomain. However I don't seem to be able to get the subdomain to work Do I need to ask my shared hosting provider to do anything? or do I need to edit anything on my VPS? The subdomain doesn't appear to be resolving.

Subdomains, Multiple Servers
I purchased a domain, domain.com, from GoDaddy. I have 5 servers, 2 running CentOS and Apache, 3 running Windows Server 2003 and IIS. Each server has it's own dedicated IP address, so I can access each site by going to [url] Would I would like to be able to do is set each of these servers up with a subdomain on my domain.com. So I would have [url]going to one server, [url]going to another server, etc. I logged into GoDaddy's Domain Manager. However, it appears that the only form of subdomains they have is redirection. So while I can create server1.domain.com, it merely redirects to [url] I can mask the forward, but this creates problems with the login on the servers because they use cookies. In addition, the address always appears as [url], it doesn't have the "index.html" or "/login/login.aspx" when I click links. The actual links appear as "[url] and not "[url] Is there anything I can do? I want the subdomains to point to a particular IP address, not redirect.

I'm trying to accomplish a redirect (or rewrite) of [url]to [url] * I got DNS *.domain.com correctly pointing to my server. * I also created a vhost.conf inside /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/conf, and Plesk (/var/www/vhosts/domain.com/conf/httpd.include) is correctly including the file. * even though I don't know if it's needed or not, I created in Plesk a new CNAME with value *.domain.com pointing to domain.com in my vhost.conf I got: ServerAlias *.domain.com RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.domain.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+).domain.com RewriteRule (.*) /temp/%1/$1 [L] when I try whatever.domain.com, I'm getting a 500 Internal Server Error.

Addon Domains And Subdomains
I have a main domain "main.com" and when I make a new addon domain "new.com", it creates a new DNS Zone for "new.com" but also adds a subdomain DNS entry to main.com "new.main.com". I know that is very typical way that cpanel works, and I know there are ways to work around this by using .htaccess. What I am trying to discover is if removing the "new" subdomain DNS entry under main.com could cause any problems. Are there side effects? Will this break anything within my VPS?

Creating Subdomains Dynamically
I have basic Html and webdesign skills other than that zilch I am working on my assignment for uni. and wanted to know if I can create multiple sub domains when I am hosted with a webhost. I want to be able to do the following:users can sign up and get a subdomain of their choice. users are allocated a limited webspace The access to file types need to be controlled. In the sense that users can only upload/download certain file types like html, htm, jpg, gif, zip etc. Users can have forms that work only within their subdomain. for example the domain name is www.webworld.com the user signs up for [url] where "mysite" is the subdomain. the user can have a form at [url] This form should not affect the other subdomains hosted by users. Just in case someone screws up the entire site should not be down. Is this possible? if yes, any pointers on how I can go about getting this done? Would the webhost help with setting this up? Any good webhost I should consider for such a setup? Any other things I should consider like data transfer / bandwidth Would this be a very expensive affair?costs?

Subdomains And Using Multiple Hosts
I have a VPS (full DNS control) where I host my main site, call it mysite.com. I want to add a forum, but I'd like to host the forum elsewhere in order to separate the forum (open source, potential hack target) from the site and gain some security through encapsulation. I don't expect the forum usage to be large for the time being, and so I expect to be able to run it at just about any shared host. My question is, what do I need to do in order to transparently host forum.mysite.com with another host? Can I do this with shared hosting? Specifically, what do I need to ask my host for in order to be able to set this up? Is this a CNAME or an A record, and what do they need to do on their end for it to work? Will a shared CPanel host do this?
