LXadmin Main Server - Best Way To Get My Secondary DNS Updated
Jun 27, 2008
Just moved to a lxadmin based system from my current plesk system and I have a dilema
Configuration
Server 1: Main Web/CP/Primary DNS/Mail/etc
Server 2: Secondary DNS/Backup Mail forwarding
With Plesk I generated a transfer file from named.conf (plesk runs bind/named for dns) sent that over to server 2 a couple of times a day.
Problem is I've converted lxadmin to run with bind instead and named.conf only contains an include to lxadmin.named.conf and this is empty. So where does lxadmin put its conf files for named?
I'm not restricted to using named, I'd use djbdns if there was an equally simple way of transferring the zones across to server 2

I have a VPS with LXADMIN Hostinabox single server and want to use this VPS as a secondary/slave DNS server. My primary/master DNS is hosted elsewhere.
Does the LXADMIN Hostinanox interface facilitate the ability to setup the secondary zone?

- Cpanel (I do this everytime security releases are out)
- Firewall (Anyone know what the latest version for APF is, or how to figure it out?)
I know how to figure out what version I have, just not the latest release.

I have the following three servers, which I'll call A, B, and C:
Server A - Web hosting server that uses cPanel on CentOS.
Server B - Free subdomain service (similar to afraid.org but on a much smaller scale), using PowerDNS with a MySQL database backend, on Debian.
Server C - Backup DNS server for the cPanel web hosting server, using the free cPanel "DNS Only" on CentOS.
Originally I had just A and B set up (they're two separate VPSes on the one dedicated server, I own the dedi and some friends and I have VPSes on it). Now I've got a VPS at a different data centre, and am using that for C.
To have a secondary DNS server for server B, I believe I can use MySQL replication to replicate the PowerDNS database to another server, then have a PowerDNS install on that server. My question is, is it possible to have server C as a backup DNS server for both server A (cPanel server) and server B (PowerDNS server)? ie. is there a way to check both PowerDNS and the cPanel BIND9 for domains (have them on different ports, and make one query the other if the lookup fails, perhaps)? Or perhaps use both the MySQL backend and the bind backend simultaneously in PowerDNS, and replace bind with PowerDNS (although I guess cPanel wouldn't like this)?

I rebuilt my VPS (again) today and noticed something different. Instead of the usual "Install LxAdmin" icon in HyperVM I read "Install Kloxo."
I looked at the demo and everything looked the same. Has anyone noticed any definite differences between the two? Has anything significant changed apart from the name?

It has been bought to my attention during our upgrade planning, that PPA & Plesk Panel do not offer the functionality for setting up a backup MX servers. In our current configuration we use Sendmail as both secondary and tertiary MX servers. These are manually configured and prone to configuration mistakes.
Multiple scenarios need to be taken into consideration.
Scenario 1: Hosters Plesk hosted primary mail server + secondary & tertiary mail servers.
Scenario 2: Client hosted primary mail server + hosters secondary & tertiary mail servers.
I am looking for alternate ways for backup / secondary MX servers for our planned PPA / Plesk deployment. An automated solution would be ideal, but we are falling short trying to find a solution to streamline the process and remove margin for error.

on HyperVM website, they suggest 64bit OS for the main server, and 32 bit OS for the guest OS. Do I understand correctly? Is it faster than 32bit OS on the main server?

If I understand correctly, on the main physical server, we cannot install any firewall, so customers in VPS can open any port on their VPS. So, I am wondering about the security of the main server? What if someone can *hack* into the main server, and delete all VPS there? Is there any case like that before?

I have a server with two hard disks.
The centos operating system and plesk (and also apache webserver) are installed on the first hard disk.
I have mounted the second hard disk (6 TB with ext4 file system) in a folder under /var/www/vhosts/AHostingAccount directory.
This folder is accessible via plesk's file manager but i cannot access it via ftp.

is there any simple write up or method to change the main server IP in WHM/Cpanel without screwing anything up? I have some new better IPs I wish to use for the servers base IP and accounts but I'm not sure what exactly needs to be changed to make the transfer without breaking anything.

I have my main domain (domain.com) and it is where all my sites and customer sites are pointed to (ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com).
I just purchased a VPS and have made (domain.com) my main domain as I want it to be because of keeping the nameservers the same for my clients.
My vision is this, I will transfer all the sites from my old cPanel account to my new DirectAdmin account. I have setup a time to let my clients know not to update any content on their sites. At that time I will then download the sites from the cPanel account to the DA account. I will then move my main domain (domain.com) over as well and then change the name server registries at namecheap.
I understand some things can get lost in this switch, but ALL clients are aware of this and understand. They will still have access to the old server via the IP address to check for misdirected mail.
Is this the simplest way to get this done?
Is there a better way, with using the main domain?

I currently have a problem here. I want to change my server IP from xxx.xxx.xxx.123 to xxx.xxx.xxx.321
1. I have requested cPanel IP changes to xxx.xxx.xxx.321
2. I am about to make changes for my eth0 to to xxx.xxx.xxx.321
3. How do I manually change cPanel setting (inside WHM) main server IP to xxx.xxx.xxx.321 using SSH command? Which files to edit?
When I change my eth0 to new IP, it won't detect the license anymore telling me "Invalid License"

How do I add aliases to the Full hostname of the plesk server itself? I want the server to listen to 2 more names. Especially for mail, and for migratory purposes (plesk server x is a new one, the name of the old one y needs to become an alias of x later on, etc.). I'm amazed by how hard to find this is, and there is literally nothing on it that I can find!
Of course, I can add aliases via command line, but I have no intentions of having postfix and webserver config be overwritten every time the control panel is used..

I currently have a web VPS hosted with FDCServers.net and after 5 days of switching to it i am getting massive HTTP requests. When i login to WHM and hit apache status i have many requests per second by multiple IP's that are going to pages that simple don't exist. Currently my hostname for the server is set at web-01.optical-hosting.com which is what the requests are being sent to. I am also having a DNS issue because when i put http://web-01.optical-hosting.com in the web browser it displays the first account's site under "list accounts" in cpanel. Can someone please help me fix both of these issue's? i will post an apache log in a second post as it is long. Also, these are from overseas. please someone help me with this i have Aim and Msn.

I've just signed up for my first VPS with CMBHosting and the person in charge, Chetan Bakhru, seems like a genuinely nice, friendly and helpful person. In other words this new service look promising at the moment.
However ...
When I signed up I selected his CentOS/LXAdmin plan because I figured that with a pre-installed control panel like LXAdmin I could avoid as much ssh as possible and simply get "up and running" more quickly. Plus I have some experience managing my own CentOS development machine, and I know that a special software package I plan to install runs on CentOS "out of the box" -- so I was expecting good things from this new VPS.
But when my account was created LXAdmin did NOT create an FTP admin account for me with root access to my VPS!
Instead it created an account that drops me into web server's document root folder, and this is far too limiting for me. I really need FTP root server access -- and I'm surprised that LXAdmin did not provide this access by default.
Not only that, but it appears that I cannot create a new FTP account that has any deeper access than the existing admin account!
Does anyone with LXAdmin experience know if this is the way LXAdmin normally works by default? Or is this perhaps a special configuration created by my new VPS host?

I have just moved away from Kloxo Hosting, and I am a bit confused as to how I go about setting Client domains to use the (Already Registered) Nameserver Records I have created on the server.
You see, when I create a customer, the template adds the domain with it's own nameservers, ex: (ns.customerdomain.com -> 0.0.0.0) I don't want this to be the case.
What I would like to achieve, is for all my client's to have their NS records pointing at the NS records I already have registered on the server.
The reason for this is, when I submit the registration document to my local registrar, I have to specify the nameserver address for the domain, however, I only have 2 IP's on the server. I cannot glue every customer's domain FQDN to an IP.

I recently just started working at a party shop, and being the only one there with a computer at home, they've unloaded a few computer problems on me - most specifically, one dealing with website hosting and all that jazz; An area which i am completely unfamiliar with, so here's hoping that I can understand half the stuff required of me!
A few weeks ago, in collaboration with a company which specializes in website design, they submitted and successfully(?) updated the new coding for the domain (they've kept the same url, just remodeled the site); However recently customers began complaining that the website which they view at home is that of the old one, not the newly updated one.
When viewing the url at the computer which is located at our store (the computer which we used to register and update the website*), we’re able to see the new website; but, viewing the url at an external computer shows the old website.
*I'm not too certain what happened at this step, but apparently they sent the domain hoster their code along with some registration key or something, and it was enough to change the website on the computer at work.
We’re not too certain why this is happening, and any information on measures we could take to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to take a guess and say that they probably didn't update the website properly, and the website they're viewing at work is the website stored in cache?
