Is there a big difference?
Intel Xeon 3200 series Quad Core VS Intel Core2Quad Q6600
What stood between Intel Xeon 3200 series Quad Core VS Intel Core2Quad Q6600?
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.
What is your opinion?

Have you guys checked this out yet?
It is simply amazing!

I purchased one of those when it was for $179.99 and I am still using it. (Original is $199.99)
These servers are a BEAST!
Just wanted to say that LimeStoneNetworks dominates with the pricing + support and everything else related to Dedicated Server =P
on my dedicated server provider it said that i was ordering a Quad core Xeon 3320 2.5 ghz and when i got it and checked the server specs, it said Core2Quad Q9400 2.66 GHZ. I emailed them why it didnt say Xeon 3320, and this is their response
Intel repackaged the Core2Duo Q9300 as the Intel Xeon 3320. The only difference that Intel will verify is that the CPU will readout "Xeon X3320" instead of "Q9300". Both chips have the same components.
If you look at other sites, you will see them list other processors in the same way "Xeon XXXX 2.XGhz (Core2Duo/Quad)".
Ive had different opinions from different people saying they are the same and some saying that they are not. So im asking you guys now. Is this true?
i am having lot of DB load issues on 3220 server i was offered 9550 server or 5520 or dual nehlam server presently i can afford 250$ monthly for a server so what you suggest upgrading to 9550 will solve

What are you guys comments on Xen compared to the other virtualization softwares like OpenVZ out there?
I'm thinking of running some VPS, but I'm having some trouble choosing a suitable system.
Anyone have the latest Xeon 3460's, any comparison to the Core i7 920?

I asked this question before in the past and I still have to ask it: has anyone used both Ubuntu Server Edition and CentOS? I would like to compare both operating system, in terms of speed, performance, security, and stability.
I have decided to build my new server and use Ubuntu Server Edition 64-bit operating system after using CentOS 64-bit operating system for a bit over a year now.
The reason why I have chosen to use Ubuntu Server Edition is because of the operating system's fabulous reputation among desktop PC users, and its large and helpful support community.
Support is what I need most, and Ubuntu seems to have it. I also am not the best with Linux yet, so it will definitely be needed. Ubuntu also seems to update its software faster than other operating systems.
I hope my decision to switch from CentOS 64-bit to Ubuntu Server Edition 64-bit will not be in vain.
Can anyone compare these two 64-bit operating systems and possibly link me to some reviews, comparisons, and/or benchmark results?
i'm planning to buy one Dual Quad Core Processors, harpertown
who should i buy it from ?
Im thinking about make littel upgrade. At this time I have Intel Xeon Dual CPU Dual Core Woodcrest 5160 3.0GHz w/4MB L2 cache and I wolud like to change them to: Dual Xeon E5405 Quad Core (Harpertown). The price and other server parameters are almoust the same. When
I change server I will be have better performance?
Which will be a better choice? 5430's CPU speed, bus speed, cache and price beats 5520 easily, while 5520 is only better due to the advantage of HT, which I don't think it improves performance much...
Intel Xeon Harpertown 5430
CPU Speed - 2.66GHz
Bus Speed - 1333MHz
Cache - 1 x 12MB
Intel Xeon Nehalem 5520
CPU Speed - 2.26GHz + Hyper-Threading
Bus Speed - 1066Mhz
Cache - 1 x 8MB
How much do you think the lowest price I can get for these specs?
Dual Processor Quad Core Xeon E5405 - 2.00GHz (Harpertown)
12Gig ram
100Mbit line with 5,000GB+ Bandwidth
250GB hdd
Just wondering because I'm looking around and its hard to spot a good deal these days.
Is Core2Quad 2.4 GHz better than P4 2.8 HT?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a dedicated server that is the Q9400 and in the WHM Server Status area it states that in fact it is a Core2Quad Q9400 2.66ghz, however all four processor speeds are at 1998mhz is this correct? 2ghz and not in fact 2.66?

What's the difference?
I have currently a server with a "Intel Core 2 duo e6640 2.4Ghz".
Now the company I'm at moving to a new data center and offering me a box for the same price with a Intel P3.4.
As I understand I would move from a two core to a single core CPU.
In the first move letter they send me, they where saying I would get a CPU plus, plus 1 GB mem more.

This is for just a couple of simple domains and sites to be hosted.
What are the differences between using core2 quad and xeon quad?
Specifically, what are the differences between Q9400 and Xeon X3330?
Assume that other hardware are all the same (say supermicro X7SBi) are there any difference in using either?
Is a Core2Quad Q6600 cpu a good choice in a dedicated server compared to a Xenon or Dual Xenons?
I'm sepcifically looking at this page...[url]
Is this a good deal?
The 1TB SATA can be swapped for a 300GB SCSI at no extra cost.
Intended for a vbulletin forum so lots of database queries, I assume the 8GB ram would be good for that.
I want to use Core2quad on X7SBA supermicro mobo. And as have few RAM's in stock of this model
[url]
Was wondering if this RAM will be compatible to this motherboard.

As it mentioned on sheet of this mobo that
Intel® Xeon® 3000 Sequence and
Core™ 2 Quad / Duo Series in LGA775
Package (FSB 1333/1066/800 MHz)
Up to 8GB unbuffered ECC / non-ECC
DDR2 800/667 SDRAM
But want to make sure.
I'm getting a quad core server and am wondering is there any much difference (performance, stability?) between a quad core Xeon 5400 series and a Core2Quad Q9300?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI now have 2 options for my new servers, first one specs:
Core2Quad Q6600
4GB DDR-II 800Mhz
2 x 250GB SATA II
and another one:
Dual Opteron 280
4GB ECC DDR (it should be 400Mhz)
2 x 250GB SATA
They are about same price as the second one is used system and the first one is brand new.
So which one should i choose?
Not too experienced with this and need your help. I agreed for a dedicated server deal with Core2Quad Q9300 but now the agent is giving me a Xeon X3220 instead and said there is no difference.
Could I get some opinions? Is it true there is no difference? I had the impression that the Q9300 was more powerful.
I'm just about to buy a server for my Database.
