Fast Webhost, Little Disk Space, With Php, Mysql, Phpmyadmin, And Alot Of Bandwidth

The most important requirement is that the webhost must be fast. It must have alot of bandwidth.

The disc space is not so important. 200 MB would be enough.

It must have PHP, MySQL and phpmyadmin installed.

Must be accesable through FTP.

There are offcourse more requirements. But the main thing is that i want it to be fast.

My pages will be only informative and exists of just mainly text and an image every now and then.

Do you know any fast webhosts that is good to handle websites with large amounts of visitors?

I'm looking for something around 6 dollars per month.

I dont know much about webhosting at all, so i'd appreciate any help i can get

Also i see websites where you can register a domain. But the prices vary, isn't a domain just a domain? What makes this price difference?

Need 1000GB Disk Space/200TB Bandwidth?
OK so I've been in the hosting industry a very long time now and I have noticed that overselling has got more and more crazy over time. 7 years ago, 2GB of disk and 10GB bandwidth was considered overselling. Today, its common to see offers at 1000GB/1000TB.

So my question, to all you looking for web hosting, do you really think you will need all that space and bandwidth?

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. (Some might hate me for this!) Out of all my customers, 99% use less than 1GB disk and 5GB transfer.

Every hosting provider out there knows this, and will tack on a bunch of 0s to their offer to make it look more enticing . The thing is, if you aren't using the space, you aren't getting any extra value. If you come even close to the amount they offer, I am willing to bet you will be suspended faster than you can blink. This advertising tactic is very misleading and a lot of newcomers base their decision off the meaningless numbers they see. <<Snip>>

Bloggers - Think again if you believe you need anything more than 1GB of space. You could type blog posts until you are blue in the face before you come close to using 1GB(unless you incorporate a lot of videos and images)

Forum owners - Considering most forums are text based, forums use hardly any bandwidth. If you run a highly active forum, eventually you will start consuming decent amounts of disk space. However, there is no way that a shared host would allow such a forum to exist on the servers. You will be shut down before you use even a fraction of that 100gb/1000tb.

What should you consider than? If you see a host offering such impossible amounts of resources for an even more impossible price, look elsewhere. If you want a decent service, look to spend $5-10/m for a reasonable amount of disk space and bandwidth.

how much disk space and bandwidth would be needed to run a single Wordpress blog. I'm not a popular name, so I doubt I will have too many viewers besides my closest friends. In addition, I tend to make layouts which are a "teensy-bit" graphic-heavy :p

Fast And Large HD Space Host For Cheap
Who knows a good host that offers PHP5, mySQL 5, and at least 1 TB of hard drive space for a cheap hosting account.

I am setting up a digital asset management tool and I need alot of hard drive space for a few of users to be able to download large image files.

Which is why i need massive amounts of hard drive space.

If anyone knows of anything, please PM me or post it here. I will be checking this thread periodically.

OH and by cheap I mean less then $100/month.

I would guess the server could be either VPS or Shared or if you know of a dedicated server company, then that would be awesome too.

Where Is All My Disk Space Used
I have a server with cpanel/WHM. The file system says I am using 26GB of my 40GB:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 40G 26G 14G 66% /
none 257M 0 257M 0% /dev/shm
/usr/tmpDSK 243M 4.1M 226M 2% /tmp
/tmp 243M 4.1M 226M 2% /var/tmp

however the total of my accounts is less than 5GB.

How can I find out where all the other disk space is being used?

Why So Little Disk Space
I've got a server in a local colo facility. both the facility and my server are slowly falling apart. Rather than investing in hardware and then shipping it to some location and hoping it doesn't break, I've decided to investigate VPS.

What I am finding is puzzling me. Why do providers charge so much for disk space? My current old p3-733 has a 30gb drive, I could deal with about 15gb but with some 'flex' room (i.e. a virtual drive for uncompressing files or some such). It's a personal server for me and a couple of friends, it doesn't get much traffic, I don't need a heck of a lot of bandwidth, nor anything flashy, just Ubuntu 8.04. I see places offering plenty of traffic for a decent price, yet little in the way of storage. I just don't get it.

A year ago I was here wanting to trade my class C for a dedicated server. I realize now that it would be pretty difficult for providers to do this, because if I wanted to yank my class c they'd have to renumber. But if anyone is still interested, let me know.

Disappearing Disk Space
I have some weird problems here:

Code:
# df -H
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 967G 917G 0 100% /
tmpfs 4.3G 0 4.3G 0% /dev/shm
/usr/tmpDSK 508M 15M 467M 4% /tmp

The root filesystem is only using 917 GB while the size is 967 GB. Where has the 50 GB gone to? CentOS tells me that the diskspace is indeed full already, so I wonder where is the disappearing space?

Disk Space Keeps Growing
I get this message from the shared Apache server (I have a reseller account and host about 50 sites) where one of my sites is and it says the site is almost out of space.

I only have it at 60 megs because the site itself is about 20 to 25 megs, so this should be plenty of room.

So, I emailed my hosting company and they say it's the 'analog' web statistics folder that keeps getting bigger, n bigger causing this issue.

I told them that I only use Awstats and they said "If you don't want to use 'analog' web statistics you can delete "tmp/analog" folder"

So, my question is this...how do you delete the "tmp/analog folder"?

Expandable Disk Space
With a VPS account from the various VPS providers out there, you can always add more disk space to your VPS. This is done in realtime without having to take the VPS down or anything like that. What kind of storage mechanism is used for this?

Is it possible to use such a storage method on a dedicated server?

I just think it would be advantageous in some dedicated server offerings to be able to continue to add disk space to a server without having to physically replace the hard drive.

MySQL Phpmyadmin Uploading
I am using Windows XP (my laptop) to run a server for localized testing for a site that I run. I am using the WAMP5 on Windows XP.

I got everything setup (phpbb board) vanilla install. Everything went fine, no problems. The script uploaded all the tables on its own.

I pulled the database from the real server to drop into the test site.

Every time I try to upload a sql file that's 11.9Mb in size, I get a "Error: You probably tried to upload too large file. Please refer to documentation for ways to workaround this limit." so I checked the configuration and set it to a 1024Mb file size and like 2048 memory size.

I even tried a 30Kb sized file and I still get the same error. What do I need to do to get this to work?

Also when I check all tables and use the drop down menu to select drop, it just bring my back to the start phpmyadmin page and nothing happens. I can drop the table individually, but that'll take too long, there are over 40 of them.

What else do I need to look for/configure so this will work?

Fast UK Host With MySQL Support
I currently run a website which is hosted with storminternet.co.uk and, while I can't fault their reliability, the (lack of) performance is undermining the usefulnes of the website.

Key features of the website are:

- completely MySQL/PHP driven so the host needs MySQL support and processor power . Some of the MySQL queries are fairly complex and call upon multiple tables of large datasets.

- monthly bandwidth is much less of an issue than speed (if that's not an oxymoron) as the number of visitors is currently <250/day.

- most if not all of the visitors are from the UK

In terms of budget I would be willing to go £150+/year if the service was top quality.

PostgreSQL *
PHP 5
30Gb storage (and no harsh inode limit)
5-20Gb traffic (typically closer to 1Gb, if that)
SSH & rsync

PREFERABLE:

PostgreSQL 8.x (many times faster than 7.x)
PHP 5.2.3+ (supports phpdoctrine)

Low Space And Bandwidth, Reliable Hosting
I am planning to create a website for my business. Its a bulk exports business and there will be very few visitors, less than 1000 a month. Also space needed should also not exceed 100 mb as I will only have some html information pages and a few pictures of my products.

However, the webhost should be reliable and have an easy to use interface as I am a beginner in this field (I hear cPanel is good). Also I have 2 more domains/businesses which I hope this same hosting should cover so it should have addon hosting.

Please recommend a reliable hosting provider with a good interface and price under $25 per year.

The registrar I will be using for the domain is Namecheap as I am planning to register a .in (India) domain name and very few have that option.

Difference Between Running PHP Using Fast CGI Or As An Apache Module?
I have been a web developer using PHP for years now, and my work laptop runs CentOS with PHP5 as an Apache Module. This suits me just fine for development, but now I want to setup a web server that runs PHP 4.4.8 and PHP 5.2.5 and offer hosting to people. I know PHP4 is very old, but I am looking to offer my users the freedom of choice, as there are still third party applications out there that may need to be run on PHP4.

I will want PHP 5 to be the default, and allow PHP 4 to be used if either the file extension is .php4, or they have a line in their .htaccess file. I have seen various tutorials in search engine results saying to run both, I can either do one of the following:

1. Install PHP5 as a module, and run PHP4 using FastCGI
2. Install PHP5 and PHP4 and run both using FastCGI
3. Install PHP4 as a module, and run PHP5 using FastCGI

In the future I will also be looking to support PHP6 once a stable version has been released, though that will probably be optional to begin with and require a line in the .htaccess file too - like PHP4. I will be using Apache 2.2.8 on CentOS 5.1. I am also looking to install Ruby on Rails and Django too, which I think use FastCGI.

What's the difference between running as an Apache Module, or using FastCGI? This will be for a shared hosting environment so performance over lots of connections, stability and security are my concerns. Should I run everything using FastCGI, if not, would the default PHP version be better off installed as an Apache Module?

Host That Doesn't Lie About Bandwidth Space?
I am sure this thread was most likely created before but I haven't been able to find anything on the particular host I just had an issue with.

It goes like this.

I've been through web hosts ever since 1998. I've grown accustomed to web hosts deceiving their customers by listing '20 gigs of BW use, or 'Unlimited BW' (which we all know is BS) but for the past few years, I actually had a host who didn't lie about how much BW their customers got with the packages. I signed up for a 20 gig BW account with HostVector and I've used up to 19 gigs and they have never said a single word. I left them recently because they were bought out by Millennium Services and ever since then, its been a nightmare. Constant down time, tech support nowhere to be found. Sadly to say, I had to leave that host due to fact that their new owners have no clue what they are doing.

I found ELIEF and thought they looked promising. I signed up for the package that listed 20 gigs of BW, now at first I thought okay.. this may be fishy, but if this was a flake, they would have specified that customers really won't get 20 gigs of BW.

Regardless, I trusted them the way I trusted HostVector. Seeing how I am a musician, I uploaded a 80MB pack and sent it to some friends to download and not even a 12 hours later. My account was suspended because it apparently caused their server to crash?

I checked the stats and only 68 users downloaded that 80MB file.

This is beyond aggravating. I know there are countless web hosts who lie about this type of stuff but why cant at least specify someplace on their page a more detailed info about bandwidth usage? Maybe put an asterisks next to the BW section like some hosts do and explain that what is listed there is not the reality.

So here I am, my domain is suspended. My fans/listeners/friends are wondering what happened and I am sitting here angered beyond belief because I thought this type of lying was something that hosts stopped doing in the late 90s.

Any recommendation guys? Does an honest web host who actually offers the same amount of BW they list on their hosting packages, exist anywhere?
