It has been 1 week, i am getting following email every day from my server.
Code:
5 failed login attempts to account root (system) -- Large number of attempts from this IP: 173-45-230-205.slicehost.net
Everyday a login attempt comes from new/different ip address.
Should i install CSF?
Every time I log on plesk 11.09 I get an email from admin saying that due to maximum number of failed login attempts for admin, the account was blocked for 30 minutes.
First, I do not get failed login attempts, I log in every time.
Two, the account is not blocked, I can log in, out and back in as many times as I want without problem except that I get this email everytime.

When I look in a directory password protected by the Plesk Panel, I don't see an .htaccess file...
So, how does Plesk password protect directories?
And, is it possible to add functionality that would limit number of login attempts, and block an offending IP for a period of time?
I have new server (fresh installation) running a Fresh Cpanel 11. and i created
domain test.domain.com and created email someone@test.domain.com with password

But i can't login into horde webmail. I got error msg like this : "Login
failed because your username or password was entered incorrectly."
But i'm sure the password was correct. And i can't download the email via
Outlookexpress too.
I have not been able to login to my cPanel from my desktop which runs WinXP service Pack3. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer returns the following error message
Login Attempt Failed!
Also, I am unable to connect using Filezilla Client.
However, I am able to connect to the same cPanel on my colleague's desktop which runs WinXP service Pack3 using Firefox browser or IE. We both share the same internet modem.
- I have cleared all the cookies and private data on my desktop. Still the problem persist.
- I changed to a different user on my desktop, but still could not login.
- I changed my desktop IP address but still I could not log in.
I use DSLinux from within Innotek Virtual Box and I was able to login to the same cPanel with the same details that were rejected under WinXP.
Please anyone with a solution should please advise me on what to do. Thanks in advance.
It is not convenient going to my colleagues desk to access my cPanel.
Since the update from 11.5 to 12 working Horde login no longer, IMAP works otherwise perfect.

Today morning a logged in in plesk without problems and started Fail2Ban and closed it. Now I want logged in and get only 502 bad gateway. All Domains working fine and shell access working fine too.
What happen here? What can I do?

I went today to my apache error log, and noticed that those scum lowlifes hackers trying to hack my server every day for at least 100 times!!!
What a disaster!

Is there anything that can be done to prevent this mor*** from even trying to hack (except putting a bullet in his/their head)?
Our VPS is being hit several times a day with hacking attempts. We have been actively monitoring error logs and can see the failed attempts. I was just wondering if there is a better way to track such attempts or another system log that wold provide additional info on these attacks? or maybe some 3rd party logging scripts?

Am I missing something here? I have tried moving it up and down the list of rules and have tried numerous types of flags to no avail. Everything else in the htacess works fine with out the line:

Just got a new additional VPS with WHM/cPanel.
Browse to www.mydomain.com/webmail and get login box > login accepted and taken to Horde/Squirrelmail choice screen > choose Squirrelmail and get login box ... login not accepted! > Retry and choose Horde ... login not accepted!
The login is correct and the results are the same when logging in as root, or through /cPanel or /Webmail.

I know that there is the motd file in /etc that i can put a message but i see it when i full be recognized by the server.. (after putting the password).. How can i put the other 2 messages?

Suddenly there seems to be a problem connecting to my server with FTP clients..
I have even created a new account from WHM and still can't connect with FTP.. In FileZilla it just says "Could not connect to server"

Yesterday I upgrade to cPanel 11... I can perfectly login using WHM, but one of our customers can login using root, this is the error:
