Email Auto Forward

Jul 17, 2008

I have signed up for hostgators webhosting.

Upon setting up, I found out that outgoing mails from any email addresses from my domain name cannot be copied to another email account. I've tried scripting on the client software (e.g)outlook. it works. but then again, it only applies on the client side if the scripted client is present. this would not work if the email is sent from the web based login.

is there a work around for it?

If there isn't, does any one know of any webhosting co. that allows that?

Situation is, my current host does allow it. Due to small amount of disk space allocated, reliability of the service, technical support and cost, we therefore have decided to switch to another host.

Only Domain Reg, Email Forward And Url Redirect Wanted

May 30, 2005

I need a company to register my domain, and then forward emails and urls to my actual site that is somewhere else. I don't need any actual web hosting or email pop (at the moment). My main requirement is reliability.

The company I currently use bounces some email to me and forwards other email to a black hole. They're also not replying to my mail, so it's time to leave. BTW, this is a company that has generally excellent reviews.

How To Keep Email On Current Host And Forward Http Traffic To New Host

Apr 11, 2008

I'm configuring a website for a client who has moved their web hosting to downtownhost, but is keeping their email hosting with their current provider. They do not want to configure an MX entry on DTH to autoforward email back to their current provider because they don't want their email to pass through DTH.

In order to do this, do I keep the nameserver entries on the current provider the same, and configure an http redirect to point to DTH? Or is there something else I should configure on the current provider?

Do Exchange Auto-responders Reply To Auto-responders

Mar 30, 2009

I have an address that receives hundreds and hundreds of e-mails a day. It's an address people aren't supposed to use (basically noreply@mydomain.com), but people do. I'd like to stop being the guy that gets these and routes them as appropriate, but we can't just turn it off and cause a hard bounce, because that will bewilder too many people who don't get that replying to noreply@mydomain.com is a bad idea. (Our website sends out notifications to people. A lot of people reply for various strange reasons, and we also get a lot of autoresponders sending us junk.)

I'm a Linux admin, so I'm a bit out of my league -- this needs to be configured on our Exchange box.

What I'd really like is an auto-responder for this address that will tell people that they e-mailed a mailbox that no one uses, and give them directions on how to contact a real person if need be.

However, fully half of the e-mails we receive are people's auto-responders. Is an Exchange auto-responder going to reply to their auto-responder? This will completely bewilder people.

And if this will auto-respond to auto-responders, is there a cleaner solution here? Again, it's got to be Exchange, but I'm a Postfix guy, so I have very little experience here.

the situation on my side is this:

my friend has bought reseller hosting and have created an account for me with the name of mydomain.com.
and the server IP is x.x.x.123

i logged in to my account in cpanel and created a subdomain named "forum"

then i created the subdomain on godaddy and pointed the A record of this subdomain to x.x.x.123

now when i open forum.mydomain.com.....it displays error page...

Client Question About DNS And Mail Forward

Mar 31, 2008

I have a situation with a client who wants to keep their current hosting provider for email, but switch their web hosting to a new host. I have recommended downtownhost to them, and explained that we could set up an mx entry to point to their old host for email forwarding.

They came back and suggested keeping their current ISP to manage the DNS entry to forward all http requests to DTH, so that mail does not need to pass through DTH.

I'm not a hosting whiz so I hope I explained this correctly. I was looking for some advice on:

a) does their solution make sense?

b) why would you want to do things this way?

Can Your Hosting Address Be Seen When You Forward A Domain?

Feb 10, 2006

For example, if I forward my business domain abcproducts.com to my domain where I have my hosting, myname.com, is it possible for people to see where my business domain is forwarding to. Basically, I am doing a business website, but I don't want anyone to be able to see that it actually is forwarding to a folder on my main myname.com where I have my hosting. I am masking it, so it will only show abcproducts.com, but I am wondering if even the "tech saavy" has tools to figure this out. I just don't want anyone to be able to see this.

Like, I know how sites like DNSreport.com show all kinds of stuff on the domain. Is there something like this that people can use to see if domains forward?

Mail Forward / Hostlookup Issues

May 14, 2008

I have several domains on my server.

ABC.com
DEF.com
XYZ.com

These 3 domains have email hosted my google and everything works as expected there.

However, when I try and send email from a php form to an address at XYZ.com, my server tries to send it locally, instead of sending it to google's MX address. If I try and send mail from this php form to either ABC.com or DEF.com, it works great and sends it to google's MX servers.

I ran a email trace from within cpanel and it returned this:

asdf@XYZ.com
virtual_aliases via /etc/valiases/XYZ.com
|
|
|
-------- XYZ@myserver.com
localuser to local delivery

asdf@ABC.com
lookuphost via ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com
The contents of my valiases files?

root@server [/etc]# cat /etc/valiases/XYZ.com
*: XYZ
root@server [/etc]# cat /etc/valiases/ABC.com
*: ABC
Here's some debug from the exim_mainlog file

2008-05-14 12:34:06 <= nobody@MYSERVER.com U=nobody P=local S=660
2008-05-14 12:34:08 => asdf@ABC.com R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp H=ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com [209.85.147.27]

2008-05-14 12:45:54 => XYZ <asdf@XYZ.com> R=localuser T=local_delivery

How To Forward Ports 2082 To 2083

Jun 21, 2009

My first post here at cpanel, and this is cos i'm now a proud owner cpanel vps

Anyways, my question is how do i forward the unsecure 2082/2086 ports to the secure 2083/2087 ports.

I have already done the server tweaking so that /cpanel and /whm etc gets forwarded to the secure ports.

BTW i have noted that when i use http://domain.tld:2083 cpanel would automatically redirect to https, so just a port redirect/forward would be enough.
