I am currently transferring from a VPS to a dedicated server.
After you have made the transition, do you delete everything on your previous server? Or can I expect that everything be deleted anyway when my subscription runs out?
I bring this up because there sometimes is sensitive data stored there (ie. databases with personal info) and I'm wondering how much I should delete. Obviously I'll get rid of the DBs, but what about essential stuff like the operating system?
I've found my previous _immediate_ cancellation request was deleted by support as it never existed. My tickets (Ticket ID: 868231, 453438, 719425) are unanswered. I sent 3 emails to admin@zone.net and sk@zone.net and had no reply. I created high priority tickets to sales@zone.net, billing@zone.net and even abuse@zone.net. Only abuse@zone.net replied me that he "forwarding your ticket to our billing department and they will get back to you shortly".
Instead of terminating my acc billing generated a new invoice generated after 2 days I requested immediate cancellation.
I wanted to get out of the contract with them for a long time ago. I think it was october 2006. I asked them I wanted to get out of the contract, but they told me I had to stay with them until october 2007, since they had already extended the contract ( without asking me. ) I contacted them October 2007, and then they said I only can get out the contract after March, since (again) the contract was extended. Now, I contacted them to get out the contract, I posted the message, at their helpdesk and sent email to the billing department. No reply for a week.
I just need to switch the host. My newhost is helping me, but unless they relese my domain, I can't switch. and they don't give me the authorization code. Hostonce is terrible host.
I've been with ThePlanet many years now, and i'm finally terminating my server with them as i'm downsizing because I just don't need a big dedicated server.
I opened a Cancellation Request with them two days ago via their Accounting (Orbit) "CANCELLATION REQUEST" Center. Its been 2 days now, and no reply. I'm thinking they are stalling so they can bill me another month? Even though my stuff is already off the server and its just sitting there.
Have any of you had problems with ThePlanet's cancellation? I responded yesterday with, "I am curious why I haven't gotten any confirmation?"... but again... no reply. Strange
Just finished migrating server providers and our old servers are being canceled soon. Does anyone know how to delete all log data or any other cached files for security reasons? Is there a command in SSH that can wipe it clean? Without damaging anything of course.
I've been using CPanel for a few years now and I've encountered an error that I have no clue how to fix it. Basically the files have been with me for the last two or three years and I've changed them from server to server. I'd say these files have been through about four or five servers. The funny thing is I can't delete any of these files. The files are in a folder under public_html and I can't delete the folder or any of the files or folders inside of that folder. I've tried through FTP and through CPanel.
The FTP error I get (I'm using WS_FTP Pro) is:
# transferred 4277 bytes in 0.063 seconds, 534.625 Kbps ( 66.828 Kbps), transfer succeeded. 226-Options: -a -l 226 58
The CPanel error I get (through File Manager) is:
[a fatal error or timeout occurred while processing this directive]
and under the trash can in File Manager:
Unable to change directory to /home/mydirectory/.trash! You do not seem to have access permissions! (System Error: Permission denied)
I even CHMODed all of the files to 777. I don't know how to get rid of these old files, how do I do it? I also have root to the server if that helps.
After a full year of operation, I think I need to delete some log files. What types of files can I safely delete (and is deletion the best option, i.e. will the files be regenerated from zero length?)
For example, my server's error_log file is 193 Mb and my access_log file is 14 Mb. Can I "rm" them both?
Are there any other such files I can safely delete that occupy space on the server?
I have an account which used a remote MSSQL server which I have since deactivated, but before deactivating I forgot to remove the DB and Server from plesk.
So now I can't remove the remote MSSQL server from plesk as there is a DB associated with it, and I can't remove the DB because it obviously can't find the remote server! I'm now stuck in a loop!
How I can force remove the DB/User from plesk and then the remote server ? I'm now receiving errors whilst backing up the account, so needs to be done.
I would like to know how to delete the script/important database data on a server in case of no longer rent it.
I will cancel a server in the coming month, but there are some critical password hardcode in my script. I am afraid it's not safe if only use a command liked "rm"
However, it's seem that it's not possible for me to format the HDD or run a fill zero software.
i've created VPS with OpenVZ.And there is some problem i have access the vps and it's show some error
Code: VM creation has failed. Reason: Private area already exists in /vz/private/250 .At the moment i forgot my SSH details..only i know my hypervm "root" details..where i log with admin password.I need to fix this because some clients of my hosting company is waiting and my number of VPS is limited.

All the log is under a single file, occupying huge amount of space on our server use lxadmin for the vps
we are unable to even open up the file, as we have almost run out of space, we would atleast like to delete around old logs older than a month, this logs are from 3 months, so please help us in solving this problem
if we delete the sql log, will a new log be created automatically or it gives an error?
can i activate the deletion command for 10 or 30 mins and then stop it? i think by this way we cant delete some files from the dir and not all the files so i can edit my files
i want to do this because my server doesnt respond to any file system command because my hardisk is full! so i need to remove some files by any way
Question: Is it safe to delete the files in /var/log/mysql ? Also, is there some way I can disable logging so that this folder does not get filled up again?
Explanation:
Last night I started running a Perl script to process the data contained in some files, and then do a series of INSERTs to put them in a MySQL database. When I checked on it this morning, I found that it was very close to being done, but had locked up. I had trouble doing anything at all, actually, until I realized that 100% of the disk space on my hard drive had now been used. I went to investigate, and I quickly realized that my /var/log/mysql folder was over 120GB!
My intuition tells me that this folder is just used to store logs of what MySQL is doing. However, I have no need for these logs, and seeing as they are (unnecessarily) using over 120GB of my hard drive space, I would like to delete everything in that folder. But I'm still fairly new to Linux, and I'm not sure if this is safe. Can I just delete these files? And also, to prevent this from happening again, is there some way I can disable MySQL from creating such enormous log files?
I have a cronjob that is still entered in my server, but due to my own lack of knowledge i deleted the domain from my server without removing the cronjob and now i keep getting the emails from my server
Code: /bin/sh: line 1: /home/userID_Removed/public_html/cgi-bin/script-removed/cron.cgi: No such file or directory I just need to know how to remove the cronjob via SSH, i logged in as Root to my SSH and then did crontab -l and I see the two cronjobs I want to remove, but can't find the code to do so anywhere via Google.
There is 3 total that I want to remove but there is about 10 cronjobs setup there so i want to remove those three and make sure the other 7 stay running as they should.
i have update my.cnf with the following configuration and now i have a lor of customer that have lost him table, seem that this configuration have delete in random .Myi files, i would put this my.cnf also on others server but i would undestand which setting in this .cnf make problem for the table.
