View 6 RepliesI have a dedicated server at rackspace.com for over a year now, and my contract with them has expired.
I'm wondering if I am paying too much, so I was hoping others who have a dedicated server at rackspace could say how much they are paying.
I have a dedicated server, intel xeon, 4 gb of ram, and 2,000MB bandwidth and pay $1,400 per month. I feel that is over-priced, how much are you paying?
I will have to get such a Hosting system CDN for my site, but what I have seen until now is very expensive so are there any good CDN to a good price.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering what a good price is for a basic single CPU dual core server, 1GB RAM, 100mbit unmetered. I mean proper bandwidth on quality providers, not 100mbit shared with 50 other servers.
Interested to hear views on what a good price is for the UK.
Anybody have a good sales rep I can use from Level3 for a great price on 100mbps commit?

Due to problems with our current hosting company we are desperate to move our site to a dedicated server.
I am a UK based company with a .co.uk website.
Can anyone recommend a company?
How long does the change over take?
How much down time can I expect during the change over period?
Our company (from Brasil) are needing one more Dedicated Server for ours Voip Services.
We have currently one dedicated in Caro and other in Sagonet. Two are good, having some problems some times.
So, this time, we are thinking Signup in new place, where the cost dont pass U$90
I'm gathering info for getting a new dedicated server, planning on using my own colocated hardware, but still looking at what's available in dedicated servers at the same time.
There are lot's of dedicated servers being offered at prices lower than 1U colocated rackspace. How's that possible, what am I missing?
I want a cheap dedicated server with 10 TB bandwidth on a 100 Mbps DEDICATED port.
where i can find such offer? and tell me if you've previous experience with any datacentre providing that
Intel just hacked its CPU pricing, especially the quad core.

Perhaps we will see this show up in cheaper and/or faster dedicated servers. I guess I better wait another week or two before getting that new box!

I own a site that is MySQL driven, shared hosting is no way to go now with over 100 guests on the site, and alot of MySQL usage...
My question is, do we need a dedicated server? or the site would function great with 99% uptime on a VPS?
Another issue is, the site gets DDoS / DoS attacks between now and then, haters out there... so would a VPS be able to stay up against the attacks? can I install CSF with no problems? or any other firewall?
Let me know what you think, and if VPS is the way to go, please suggest some VPS hosting providers...
What would be the site hosting capacity of a dedicated server in terms of numbers of small sites.
1000 visitors a day for example.
Perhaps 5 page views a vistor and each site having a VBulletin as a sub-domain.
Would it be best to run them all off one dedicated server or each site just off a small hosting plan?
For organizational purposes it seems the dedicated server would be the way to go?
i want to start a file hosting site like megaupload etc. So need a good bandwitch and storage for beggining and if it grows up then upgrade.
Would you recommend buying Dual Core Cpu?Or Pentium 4 for beggining?
can you recommend dedicated server hosting outside USA for adult sites?

if I run my forum website(MySQL) on dedicated server
and load member photos from cheap shared hosting?
Example:

Starting point: a working site using a shared IPv4, dedicated IPv6, and SSL. HTTP and HTTPS work, the latter only using SNI of course.
The good news: If I simply allocate an IP resource of 1 to a subscription it is pulled from the pool, assigned to the service node, assigned to the web site, DNS is updated, and the site is automatically changed to using a Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6.
The bad news: visitors land on the default web site of the service node, with the default SSL certificate.
Other info: I can't ping the new IP, even though it shows in "ip a l" and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0. [edited]
After the IP assignment, it is still installed, and /etc/httpd/conf/plesk.conf.d/ip_default/domainname.conf shows the new certificate is being used.
However, a second set of VirtualHost entries is created in server.conf for this IP for ports 80 and 443, with NameVirtualHost enabled on the new IP. The port 443 entry uses the default certificate. Apache's setup this default VirtualHost entry will override the web site configuration because Apache is listening on port 443 with the wrong cert.
If I go to "Change webspace settings" and toggle to Shared IPv4, Dedicated IPv6 the site works again via HTTPS, and Dedicated IPv4 and Dedicated IPv6 breaks it again. Setting the SSL cert to None and back again does not work.
Setting the SSL cert to None, changing to a dedicated IP, and enabling SSL results in the server being inexplicably inaccessible...browsers no longer connect to either the default site or the correct site, and I don't see any entries in the vhosts's logs.

Trying to set Default Site for a Dedicated IP Address.
I go to Subscription, then to domain > Change Hosting Settings, select dedicated IP address and OK, works fine. Site goes to Default Plesk Page.
Go to Tools & Settings, IP Addresses > Select the dedicated IP address I set above. Change Default Site to site above. Click Ok.
I get the error message above and nothing changes.
I looked on my IIS Server and MailEnable's Webmail is installed under the Default Website.
I have another Dedicated IP on this server and it has a default site on it working properly, but it was set up on the old site and it was configured as part of the Migration using Migration Manager.
I tried deleting the IP address and adding it back in. That didn't change anything. I also tried running: "%plesk_bin%websrvmng.exe" –reconfigure-webmail since that came up under someone else's issue when searching the web and that .exe is what's throwing the error.
our VPS hosting company did an upgrade the other day and now something is wrong with our home page, it takes about 30sec to load. They keep saying its a php problem, but the scripting is fine, the engine is fine and the only thing that changed is that they did an upgrade.
They don't seem to be able to grasp the problem, and it is making my boss go nuts. A web guy a know said it definately had to be something at their end, and everyone else is at a loss.
i want to start an adult site, can someone please recommend me a good host?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am very interest about RackSpace Cloud site technology
http://www.mosso.com/cloud.jsp
Does any one over here using RackSpace Cloud Site
I have couple of sites hosted on a one virtual dedicated server, I get total about 100K+ hits per month. About 70GB bandwidth usage per month. Is cloud site technology is a good choice for me?
my friend and i are working on some web-based-commerce ideas and at current we're at godaddy.com. i can only imagine the vitriol they've rightfully earned here, as we decided to be done with them when the $30 SSL license they told us we could get one night quickly became $78 because there was a new "turboSSL server" package we needed, nevermind the guy the first time said with our hosting options we only needed to go through them for the SSL license, so basically, either the first guy lied to us or the second guy tried to hustle us, either way, i dont like companies whose sales model is revealed like the plot in a horror movie, so we're looking to go elsewhere.
basically we're looking for a virtual private server setup, although actually another question i'd love to ask someone is if joomla is better served on unix/linux or windows, with a few dozen accounts needed, and by accounts i mean domains and whatnot, as right now it's basically the blanket idea that you grab the names you need, or might go to if you change your mind on company names...
so basically, with all the people here talking about bad experiences with places, are there any good experience type places where someone can get competent tech support, no hustling in sales pitches, and quality service at a nice solid price?
again, sorry to show up and start asking for things, but i'm not necessarily well versed in these arts yet... rest assured once i have some information i shall contribute to the community and help others who are in my position now
I'm thinking about selling an old machine I have, and I'm just wondering a ballpark figure on what it's worth if I decide to ebay it. I think I need to upgrade to a Dual Quad Xeon box for the project I'm about to undertake.

4GB SD Ram

I'm looking for a dedicated hosting server to store more than 800GB in video. This video will not be played back, this place is just to store and where people can download.
As far as I can tell my only solutions is dedicated, but if anyone can offer me a better solution please let me know. Before I had this videos on different servers but the company does not allow me to keep them for storage.
I need to know the top 3 hosting companies in the US, and why you like them.
I like aplus.net but after doing some research I found out that this company is a nightmare.
Please, I need help really fast! Thank you all in advanced for your suggestions.
I'm with burstnet and they're pretty good, however I do have some downtime and that's really my main issue. I need my sites to be online 24/7, or as close to that as possible.
I have a budget of around $80 per month, which isn't much, but I don't need any top of the range server, I'd love to go with singlehop, they look amazing, but their pricing is out of my range.
Can anybody recommend any good companies, with good uptime and a reasonable support team? It would be brilliant if they had some sort of remote reboot facility, as waiting for the company support team to reboot can be a pain...
I don't need much, the server is just to host my person websites, project ideas etc. I need around 1TB bandwidth, 100GB diskspace maybe... I could probably manage on shared hosting right now, however I need the freedom of my own dedicated. I've had a bad experience with VPSs before, so they're out of the question.
I've searched, but burst seems to be my only option, which is disappointing.
Requirements:
<$80 P/M
~100GB Disk space
~1TB bandwidth
~10 IPs.
No control panel, I can manage that myself
I have been with 1&1 for over three years now and I have never seen our dedicated server go down. Their network is first-class and I have actually been able to get transfer rates of over 10MB/sec on our 100Mbps port.
I'm in the market for a colo host now because our current hardware is getting old and the CPU is really loaded down, but in my search I realized how many bad comments there are and how few good comments there are about hosts. Therefore, I just wanted to try and make the reviews more equitable before I leave this host (and possible get ripped off at my next one
Anyone have experience with this connection from iWeb?
From their website:
Quote:
"At iWeb your unmetered port is not shared, if you buy a 10Mbps port,
you are guaranteed to be able to use 10Mbps whenever you need it!"
So I wonder what peaks can you expect from their 10Mbps network,
especially in US and Europe.
