What do you Guys Think about the Move?
Do you think a Data center in DC is a smart move?
I personally think It's a Nice move.
I want to buy dedicated servers or colocated servers in Los Angeles data centers. I found 2 data centers: pacificrack.com and fastserv.com. I have no experience about them.
If you know the datacenters in LA, could you review ?
I choose LA because it's fast to Asia.
if there are any data centers in Australia...

Anyone aware of any data centers in Wyoming? I would appreciate the info!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am thinking of colocating with these guys. I am just wondering if anyone on this forum has colocated with them before. I know that they host some big websites such as isohunt so I am assuming that they are good.
Any reviews on this company?

We have just signed up with Interactive in Melbourne. They claim that in November they will be the world's first 100% green powered Data Center.

Denver Technological Center (DTC)

Equinix Chicago
For Europeans accessing, which would be better?
Is comparing ping times sufficient or is there some more sophisticated analysis I could do?
I've been looking for a descent DC in North Scottsdale, AZ near the airport and came accross i/o Data Centers. It's a 100K sq ft, Tier 4 facility. I believe they managed the Downtown Phoenix Technology Exchange before selling it recently and this is their 1st DC with more planned.

Is anyone currently colocating there and could you comment on how things have gone so far with their services and DC and if you would recommend them? Pricing, cooling, how they are treating you?
I like most of what I'm hearing from them but would be great to hear some real world experiences.
I've tried a few DC's in Phoenix over the past few years but cooling has always been an issue with outdated cabinets.
Does anyone know of cheap offshore data centers, we have some customers in need of offshore hosting services.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI would like to know how many dedicated server companies are based in Canada who do colo or have there own Data Center. I do know iweb is one. There are few more like peer1 and who else is there. I know there is search option but its giving too many results and i have very limited internet connectivity atm
We are looking to add canadian data center in our portfolio as well. And I am in Canada these days on business trip.
Has anyone pulled off a mass server move during the middle of the night? We have decided 350 E Cermak is where we want to be but are still working out the details of where we want to be in the building.
While the final details are being finished, I need to come up with some kind of plan to pull the move off with the least amount of downtime. Our current dc is about 4 miles away from 350 Cermak and we have approximately 50 servers to move. I plan on leaving a linux box around to redirect any traffic that is ignoring TTLs.
I was thinking the best thing to do would be label and remove all harddrives, then see if a moving company could put the servers on palettes, wrap them, and move them to 350 E Cermak. Not sure if a moving company would work in the middle of the night or not.
Courier services are pretty much out. Anytime we have had a courier service move anything not in a massive box with padding, it gets bent or broken.
Anyone here colo at a Verizon facility in the Chicago area? I need to get in contact with someone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a private Data Center with Satellite uplink/downlink connectivity in addition to Fiber?
I know the government depends on them for military purposes, but I was wondering if anyone is aware of a private, FCC liscenced data center with the capability to transmite/host data via satellite in case of disasters, remoteness etc. It seems complimentary for a data center but I haven't heard of it.
Is there any market research on this? What is a good source of information to find out about how many data centers there are, how much revenue they bring in, costs, etc? What is the data center bible?
Anyone have recommendations / references for Mexico / Latin America wireless ISPs and coverage areas?
IP satellite coverage?
Also looking for recommendations for Mexico / Latin America data centers (something like half rack, 20 amps, reliable, redundant, etc)
I am trying to find all the data centers in my area, if someone knows of any others, let me know:
twtelecom (Greensboro and a small one in Winston Salem)
Time Warner Cable (Greensboro)
CarolinaNet (Greensboro)
Data Chambers (Winston Salem)
DukeNet (Winston Salem / Greensboro) - Can't get anyone here.
SolidSpace (Winston Salem)
Any others people know about? Even if its close by ( 30 minutes away ). I am with twTelecom but I'm looking for a 2nd location as well.
Anyone know about Data Chambers or SolidSpace? Last time I checked, they were pricey, but it's been awhile.
I'm questioning whether a host is really wind powered as they claim. They are a reseller and have a GoDaddy SSL seal at the bottom. I know that doesn't mean that they're reselling GoDaddy hosting - but isn't it a little curious?
How can I find out if this reseller is really wind powered?
which data center has lowest rack/power costs, yet has decent reputation, security, and remote hands?
we have expanded to the point where we have backup equipment scattered everywhere and want to consolidate that equipment into a single rack or two.
Network quality is not an issue as it is backup, will only be used if we lose something elsewhere.
DHas anyone got experience of having a web server and db server setup where the servers are in different datacenters? Is this a viable solution or would the performance of sites suffer too much due to the added latency? The only other problem I can think of is additional bandwith usage but that's not a major worry.
Reason I ask is beacause I've found and excellent deal for a DB server and would like to keep my current server for the front end..
do dual power supplies use more power than a single supply?
E.g. Say I have a server than uses two amps, powered by a single power supply. Now if I switch to a dual supply (and say each supply has the same efficiency rating as the single), does my server use more power? How much more?
My simple view of this is that it probably does, but maybe not much. The second power supply consumes some power itself, but since its not under load, it doesn't consume much. Therefore, my server with redundant supplies might use 2.1A or 2.2A.
Does anyone know any North Dallas (Richardson/Plano/Garland) datacenters? I found sunguard but looking for more to compare. I've heard of an AT&T datacenter but can't get anyone on the phone.
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhere I can get higher then a T1 connection. T1 anymore is close to a high speed cable connection. As high as my cable company(InsightBB) offersis 15mbps. But i know there is some OC-13 connections that go right through my state. From Chicago to St. Louis.
What I am wondering is there anywhere I can call to see how much it would be to run say a 50mbps or even 100mbps. I have searched and searched and cant find one in Springfield, Illinois.
I was also wondering if anyone new of any Colo centers in or closely around Springfield,Il I know of Hanson Information system's but they only do shared and dedicated servers and the servers are in Texas they are just based out of here.
(Not to DC owners If there isn't one in Springfield id say it be a good idea to have one. We rarely have major weather issues bout the same as chicago or STL An as far as I can tell there isnt any here. An property is pretty cheap here.)
I just signed my agreement for 2 cabinets at Internap's Atlanta CoLo. For now, I will just have 1 120V 20A circuit in each cabinet.
At my office's server room we currently have 8 circuits I am powering my 2 racks from. I am just curious how many servers you can typically put on a 20A circuit. I am also considering adding two additional power feeds (1 more for each cabinet) to have truly redundant power for my dual power supplies.
I am hoping that 20A is plenty for my needs. I have around 20 HP and Dell systems. Mostly HP DL380s and Dell PE2950s.
Any ideas? I am splitting them in half, only filling up a half of each cabinet for now, as we are growing quickly and I wanted to overguy space so I would not be forced to add another cabinet later and have it end up somewhere else in the DC.
I wonder if any colocation providers here have any tips for measuring power. Currently I'm using APC 7900 power strips with amperage meter. I'm not a power expert by any means but I want to be able to calculate whats the cost having a server drawing 2 amps 24/7 365 days week.
Our secondary site gave us a whopping power bill, and at our own data center we never considered charging our customers for power.
