Jan 15, 2008I've been looking for a descent DC in North Scottsdale, AZ near the airport and came accross i/o Data Centers. It's a 100K sq ft, Tier 4 facility. I believe they managed the Downtown Phoenix Technology Exchange before selling it recently and this is their 1st DC with more planned.

Is anyone currently colocating there and could you comment on how things have gone so far with their services and DC and if you would recommend them? Pricing, cooling, how they are treating you?
I like most of what I'm hearing from them but would be great to hear some real world experiences.
I've tried a few DC's in Phoenix over the past few years but cooling has always been an issue with outdated cabinets.

Jan 6, 2008Has anyone pulled off a mass server move during the middle of the night? We have decided 350 E Cermak is where we want to be but are still working out the details of where we want to be in the building.
While the final details are being finished, I need to come up with some kind of plan to pull the move off with the least amount of downtime. Our current dc is about 4 miles away from 350 Cermak and we have approximately 50 servers to move. I plan on leaving a linux box around to redirect any traffic that is ignoring TTLs.
I was thinking the best thing to do would be label and remove all harddrives, then see if a moving company could put the servers on palettes, wrap them, and move them to 350 E Cermak. Not sure if a moving company would work in the middle of the night or not.
Courier services are pretty much out. Anytime we have had a courier service move anything not in a massive box with padding, it gets bent or broken.

I know the government depends on them for military purposes, but I was wondering if anyone is aware of a private, FCC liscenced data center with the capability to transmite/host data via satellite in case of disasters, remoteness etc. It seems complimentary for a data center but I haven't heard of it.

Green Datacenters- What Do You Classify As Green
Jan 21, 2008I've seen quite a few data centers advertising about how "green" their facilities and/or services are. However, the great majority are far from actually being green, I don't see Rackspace or AtlantaNAP using solar panels for power (please correct me if I'm wrong). And I wouldn't exactly call using refurbished hardware being "green", as the great majority of older products consume more power than new.
Let me ask the community, what do YOU classify as being "green" ?
DB Server And Web Server In Different Data Centers
Nov 27, 2008DHas anyone got experience of having a web server and db server setup where the servers are in different datacenters? Is this a viable solution or would the performance of sites suffer too much due to the added latency? The only other problem I can think of is additional bandwith usage but that's not a major worry.
Reason I ask is beacause I've found and excellent deal for a DB server and would like to keep my current server for the front end..
Is It Really Wind Powered
Jun 2, 2009I'm questioning whether a host is really wind powered as they claim. They are a reseller and have a GoDaddy SSL seal at the bottom. I know that doesn't mean that they're reselling GoDaddy hosting - but isn't it a little curious?
How can I find out if this reseller is really wind powered?
My Limestone Server Is Powered OFF
Dec 19, 2008I've been with this guys for over 4 months, but for my surprise when I got home today from work just noticed that my server is being "unpluged" for hours.
I did get an e-mail about the outage and was aware about the datacenter move. I am with live chat now waiting for some response and will update soon.
I hope my server did get stolen or lost during the move... and hopefully i will be compesate for this huge downtime.

So the question is, Is it slow to get only around 300-800k/s download speed on a 100MBPS port powered VPS? .....

In order to license software for use for my client's company, the vendor needs the MAC Addresses setup for their vps' virtual enet interfaces.
Synchronizing MySQL Powered Site Across 2 Dedicated Servers
Nov 18, 2008Here is what I am trying to do, to set up a WordPress powered site to be run across two servers for load balancing. The two servers are dedicated and I have the load balancing software installed and set up. I need to set up the site so that both of them are accessed, but to also have the same content. The main concern is for the same content.
WordPress uses a MySQL database to place all of the content there, so the main thing I would need is to set up the databases so they are synched on both servers, so that the same content is showing up on both of the servers, and so I don't have to manually upload data to the database every few hours, that would suck. I have already found a script to connect to a remote mysql server, it is called HyperDB, but I was wondering if there are any better ways.
Being Green
Jul 4, 2008So I see a lot of people advertising "being green". I've tried to Google around and find out, "What does it take to be green?" Unsuccessful in trying to find a list of requirement to being green. What does it mean to be green? How does one justify themselves being green?
I live in Washington state, over 90% of my data centers power is supplied by Hydro power. Does this make me green?
I recycle ALL of my equipment, Does this make me green?
I recycle as much trash as I can, boxes, cans, bottles, etc etc. Does this make me green?
