please bear w/ me since this is my first time on launching a site online..
My site is being hosted by a free hosting company..
When I tried viewing the source code of my page some of the html tags are not seen like the <html>,<meta>,<head>...
and I can't seem to verify my site on google...
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Jan 30, 2009: We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.
why is this so?
Did the host delete those?
what should i do?

Google Hammering My Site....
So I checked on the Google Webmaster tools, it has a nice graph now saying that it's hit my site 30 times/day for the last month or so. HOWEVER, when I look at my logs (I log googlebot) I have over 17000 page views in the last three days. Already I am using the Agent to remove images and some of the more expensive queries which are too old to be in the cache (Googlebot looks at pages on my site which are very old). What other things should I be doing...? I appreciate that Google is indexing my site, but this is more of a scrape, than index. Just for this month alone, looking at my stats, I see the following: 144360 10.03% 143949 12.31% 1724938 17.72% 2 0.01% crawl-66-249-66-1.googlebot.com 2 visits, generating 144360 page views!!!!

Mystery Mirror/Mirroring My Client's Site Is On Another Domain But Why?
I'm having an issue with a client site and I am not sure what to do at this point. Conversations with the host (GoDaddy) haven't led to a solution and to be honest, I'm not sure it's their issue to handle although I will be firing off an email to their domain dispute department shortly. I spoke with a couple of supervisors there and they were as baffled as I am. Here's the situation: When people Google the name of the client's business, it returns their site but on a different domain. The entire site is there, nothing is changed but the URL. It's like having an unintentional mirror site except that none of the forms work which is what tipped off the users that something was wrong but of course, they don't notice that they're not actually on 'www.clientsite.com' so they think it's just a form error when in actuality, they're not even at the right domain. There is really no way for this other domain to profit from mirroring the client's site; it's just a business profile type of thing with a few forms for contact, employment applications and vendor applications. No secure info is transmitted other than perhaps the occasional email address but we're not talking a heavy volume site, it's a niche market and really not something that would be a typical target. There's no eCommerce, no subscriptions, no financial info. I'm at a total loss. Could this happen if this other site is hosted on the same server as my client's site? Could it be an actual error of some sort or would it have to be intentional? The whois for this bogus site leads to DomainsbyProxy.com and I'll be sending them a letter as well but I'd really appreciate any input you all might have on HOW this could happen. Should I also contact Google?

Invalid Command 'php_flag' - After Recompiling PHP & Apache?
After I recompiled Apache and PHP using easyapache from cPanel, we started getting all these weird errors. I'm getting a few people now complaining about not being able to enable register_globals. I believe (after searching) that having this enabled is a big security risk and shouldn't need to be used. However, some people apparently where using .haccess and php_flag to enable this. I did find on a few places that people can create their own php.ini file to emulate what was previously done with .htaccess? After searching around.. I found out that Register Globals can become a security risk based on the scripts configuration that uses it. This feature normally can be enabled via .htaccess using the glad "php_flag register_globals On". Creating a file called php.ini inside the directory of the site with the flag "register_globals=on" I believe will also enable this option. To enable this option on a global scale, you can edit '/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/etc/php.ini', but its not recommended. However.. We are unable to get the php.ini concept to work. Is there something I need to do to enable/allow users to do this for their account?

I hope some of you are using Google Apps and can help me to find an answer to the following question: I own two different and independent domain names (e.g. domain1.com and domain2.com). I'd like to use the Google Apps (Standard, free edition) with them to create two different and totally independent mailboxes (e.g. abc@domain1.com and xyz@domain2.com). But how many Google accounts I need to do this? Can I manage two (or more) independent and fully functional domains using one Google account? P.S. Help section contains descriptions of aliases for multiple domains, which are just pointers or shortcuts, but not a fully functional mailboxes, so this solution isn't something I'm looking for.

I'd go w/ a hosted service, but I open allot of pop3 connections... (program I use downloads one email, closes connection, reopens... repeat)... There's lots of cookbooks out there, but they require quite a bit more time commitment (and configurability) than I want / need. Is there any dumbified installs available? Basically a client has been getting really bad email problems with their email. They keep getting the standard qmail msg back from several emails. I originally thought this msg was being returned as it was an invalid receipients address, but they are assuring me that this is not the case? Anyway the basic msg they are getting is: Hi. Also had to create a support ticket. And when it was finally delivered, there was no DirectAdmin on it. Specially disturbing, since I actually paid for a monthly license. Not to mention that their responses are very vague. They claim to apply the promotions (triple disk space, double bandwidth) 24 hours after they setup the VPS. I have no idea why they do that. Moreover, they have false advertising on their VPS page (Instant Activation..where it should read 'We don't activate your VPS unless you create a support ticket). A speedtest from the VPS showed that the VPS is capable of bursting to a maximum of 10mbps, while average speed is barely 2mbps. Stay away from these guys. They're potential scammers. They WILL scam.. sooner or later.

What Is The Reverse Command For 'mount --bind'
A few days ago, when installing TUX, I have mounted the virtual hosting directory to var/www/html/mywebsite.com (that's an empty directory I created in order for TUX to work) via: mount --bind /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/ /var/www/html/mywebsite.com/ command..... After figuring out that TUX has some problems I reverted everything but not this mount --bind command.. Exim Sender Verify
We had a non-client (not on our server) that was getting 550 email rejections when he attempted to email us due to having Sender Verify enabled. In the past I figured Sender Verify was necessary for fighting spam, amongst other things, but have realized that we may be having more rejections than we know because we never hear about them. Is there a general best practice in terms of enabling Sender Verify or leaving it off? I've never heard about complaints about rejects from legitimate emails senders, so it doesn't seem to be an issue, but then again, you really never know...

Anyway To Verify RAID 1 Is Working
I had a server admin install a new drive in RAID 1 (mirrored drives). I'm not the best linux guy in the world... but is there a way either through linux, WHM/cPanel, etc. to check and verify that the drives are mirroring correctly? I just want to sleep soundly everynight knowing if a drive failed I'd have another drive up and going.

I have a domain: myname.com whose nameservers have been already update to the new host's nameservers: ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com The new NS for the domain was already propagated over 1 day ago. However, it seems that myname.com is not yet resolving at myhost. How can I check whether myname.com is on ns1.myhost.com nameservers? I have yet no shell access, and it is shared hosting.

How Can I Verify My Dedicated Server Architecture
if there was a way of remotely verifying my dedicated server architecture. The hosting is done through our design company who then use a 3rd party for hosting a number of sites, and as such I don't have direct access to server control panels etc. Short of just taking their word for the fact that we have the servers we're supposed to, I was wondering if there's any way I can be sure. How To Disable Bounces And Sender Verify With Exim?
in the last few months Ive got a blacklist warning from spamcop over my server sending bounces and now I find out one of my ips is listed at [url]for doing sender verify and bounces. I think both of which are ridiculous to blacklist for and I really think most of the anti-spam blacklist people are nothing more then money making rackets. But I guess it seems reasonable to disable these things as it would save some resources. Anyway what I need to do I guess is only do bounces for local users and disable sender verify. What is the best way to do this with exim? Every server I have to change is cpanel. Ive googled on this the last 2 days and cant find much info, Mailservers isnt my strong point for sure. How To Verify 100 MBPS Uplink Speed
I recently purchased a new Dedi server, and got 100 MBPS Uplink. Now, I'm uploading 16GB size of files into this server, and I have a suspicious feeling that this upload speed is not what they told me. For the very 1st day, I opened a ticket and they said that they upgraded it to 100 mbps. I saw this speed was faster immediately. On 2nd day, it went down to around same slow speed before. Since then, I kept opening a new ticket and they said it was done, or sometimes I am under DDos attack..? What? I don't even have the site up yet! How come there is DDos attack? Anyway, today I was told that I'm getting billed for this 100 mbps uplink, because it's a new service. What a crazy thing going on here... I am so tired of this ticket game and just don't understand why they don't commit what they told me initially. Can anyone please tell me how I can verify and prove that I am having this 100 MBPS Uplink speed? The only thing I can tell with my eyes is that I can see those FTP upload progress bar. When it's very fast to upload one file, I assume that I have right speed. But is there any tool or command that I can execute on the server shell, and tell them what I get as a proof?

Static Routes With Linux & Shorewall (site To Site VPN Virtual Private Network)
Attached is a (badly) drawn diagram of two sites, connected by a vpn. The site to the left, is network 10.0.0.0/24 which runs a linux server as the router for the network. The site to the right, is network 10.1.0.0/24 which runs a windows 2003 server as the router for the network. Now, my problem is, the clients behind the windows 2003 server can ping any machine on the first network because i setup a static route to route all traffic to 10.0.0.0/24 over the vpn interface. now, my problem is, only the linux server can ping any machine on the windows 2003 network, any client behind the linux server cant seem to route over the interface. Google APPS And MX Settings
I want to shift my mail to Google Apps (standard version). Currently my DNS is pointed towards 1and1 dedicated servers (having problems with 1and1 mail services). Want to keep hosting with them but change the Email to Google apps. The Registrar of the domain is Netfirms, Inc. My current Settings for nameservers in Nefirms CP are: ns29.1and1.com ns30.1and1.com Google Instructed me to verify first by creating a CNAME, which I did in Netfirms control panel. 'googlexxxxx.mydomain.com' Pointing to 'google.com' DONE. Google gave me the MX records to enter in the Netfirms panel. ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM DONE. It's been more than 24 hours, neither MX updated not that CNAME lookup 'googlexxxxx.mydomain.com is propogating. What I am supposed to do here? I am waiting here for last 24 hours. I think that I have to set up these settings with my registrar (Netfirms) rather than it has to do something with 1and1? Any suggestions?

Awstats And Google Earth
Not sure if this is the right forum; please go ahead and move if necessary. I host a Google Earth file, and in awstats, GE shows up as an unknown browser. For that reason, it's pretty impossible to get more-or-less accurate statistics for what version of GE people are using by looking at the analysis in awstats. CPanel And Google Apps
I'm using cpanel and google apps. I made mail in google apps mail@mydomain.com I set up MX entries. When I sending mail from e.g. yahoo or hotmail to mail@mydomain.com I can receive it. But when I'm sending mail from php contact skript which is located at my site I cannot receive mail, like it doesn't exist. why?

Google Apps / Email
attending to clients and their email inbox limits is occuring more frequently i'd prefer to minimize this chore, especially now i have some clients using IMAP it means the server fills up rapidly. google apps -just for handling email- seems attractive (6GB free) compared to increasing the monthly fee for extra server space which seems to be kind of expensive at my webhost. i would actually prefer to keep using the Webmail interfaces offered on the servers but i dont think my clients will change their bad habits of filling up their inbox, and lets not forget the increasing levels of SPAM. what are other people doing with email? are many people outsourcing it to google? i'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions.

Google UK: Getting .com Sites Listed? Better To Host In The UK?
I did a site for a UK company that has a .com address, and for various reasons the site is hosted in the US. Unfortunately the site doesn't appear under the google search for pages in the UK. One reason I chose the US hosting company is that they provide ColdFusion hosting, and my plan is to upgrade the site to use ColdFusion in the near future. They do also have the .co.uk address registered, which is currently set to forward to the .com address, and that doesn't show up in google at all. I'm thinking the solutions might be: 1) Move the .com hosting to the UK 2) Get additional hosting for the .co.uk address (uk mirror) 3) Both? The company is based in the UK, and provides holidays in Montenegro, primarily aiming at the UK market. When I originally looked into it I could not find a UK host that provided ColdFusion and mySQL 5 - and those that had ColdFusion and other database applicaitons were far more expensive than the US one we're using currently. What would be the best way forward?

Adding Google Adsense For Domains
Since they had opened it up to everybody, I am adding Google Adsense for domains to one of my spare domain names. I am unable to edit my A and CNAME records myself, so always just email my host to do it. The setup guide is here and my host is having problems. Google wants you to setup 4 different A records, but my host claims they can only do one on a shared linux server running BIND DNS. Is this just a limitation of using shared hosting or are we missing something obvious? Why can I not just add one of the A records and miss out the other three?
