Best Place To Buy APC Power Switched BDUs
Jun 2, 2008
I would like to buy 5 of the AP7921 APC PDUs. This is the description of this PDU:
AP7921 Horizontal Rack PDU Switched - 1U 16A (8)C13 and 208/230V Output
I have now an offer from PROVANTAGE and from CDW. But even I buy 5 of them, I have to pay the price which they publish on the internet.
Provantage is selling them for 429$ per pice. Can someone recommend a cheaper shop to buy them which is also delivering them to europe?

at getting PDUs for the new facility where we plan to move our servers to. Our cabinet will have 2*20a circuits, so we're thinking of getting 2 APC PDUs (1 per circuit). Some offer remote reboot capability.
Our servers (Dell PowerEdge) have dual power supplies, and I assume the best thing is to plug one power supply into each circuit, so things stay up even if a circuit fails.
So, how would this work if we want to reboot? The servers can run on only one power supply, so does that mean we have to click reboot on the web interface of each PDU at exactly the same time?
I've never worked with PDUs before.. just cheap power strips and a call to the datacenter

APC seems to be the golden standard for switched PDU.
We are looking at a Tripplite B060 IP KVM
For all you KVM gurus, that have played with various brands, love to hear feedback on the various makes out there.

I have a couple of these and we are looking to throw them into our rack but I have a question, is it possible to monitor the amp usage on a certain port or is it only possible to monitor the whole device?

Have an issue that I am dealing with, APC support couldn't really help me get anywhere either.
Here is the story:
I am leasing a rack at Equinix in Sunnyvale.
It came with 3 APC Switched rack PDUs.
By the looks of it, they were used by the previous customer.
APC sent me a serial to RJ11 programming cable, and I have been trying to use HyperTerminal, but I get a blank screen when I attempt to connect.
I have tried arp commands, but, again, it looks like the device was previously configured.
I downloaded this: [url] hyper terminal software.

I have a Switched Rack PDU AP7921 in use and it was working now for several months without any problems. But sice yesterday I have a problem with the network connection. I was not able to connect to the PDU anymore, after pressing the reboot button it was working again. But after a few minutes, the problem appeared again.
Is this a common problem of this APC PDUs? Is there a fix, for example a firmware upgrade or is it broken?

I have been hosting boxcheats.com with HostGator for a few months, and two days ago I ordered a dedicated IP address to see if it would help with seo. Traffic and Adsense revenue significantly dropped immediately after the dedicated IP was assigned to my account.
Is this normal when switching to a dedicated IP address and what is the cause for the instant drop in traffic?

I have one domain (just one?) that has a serial of 0 (on my server 5.9.57.170 , latest plesk)
Because of that, dns updates don't happen, dns servers don't respond , and my domain issuer is threatening to revoke the domain as it is not working as it should.
> dig auringostaitaan.fi @5.9.57.170 soa +short
robotns3.second-ns.com. torsten.ruger.gmail.com. 0 10800 3600 604800 10800
You can see the test here [URL] .... when you enter the domain auringostaitaan.fi
In trying to fix this i have switched the dns off, changed the mode, enabled RIPE, but i get what it says [URL] ....
Note: See the sample of SOA serial number generated with the selected format. If the resulting number is less, than the current zone number, the modification may cause temporary malfunction of DNS for this domain. Zone updates may be invisible to Internet users for some time.

do dual power supplies use more power than a single supply?
E.g. Say I have a server than uses two amps, powered by a single power supply. Now if I switch to a dual supply (and say each supply has the same efficiency rating as the single), does my server use more power? How much more?
My simple view of this is that it probably does, but maybe not much. The second power supply consumes some power itself, but since its not under load, it doesn't consume much. Therefore, my server with redundant supplies might use 2.1A or 2.2A.

I have recently started using the slave DNS manager in the Plesk extension library. I've found that even for DNS zones that are switched off in Plesk, failed sync/transfers still try to take place between the slave and master. Why is this so?
Shouldn't turning the DNS functionality off in Plesk remove the zone from the slave DNS server?
When a domains DNS functionality is turned off, it removed the zone info from the master, but no command is issued to remove it from the slave??
Domain that is trying to sync/transfer: example.com
Plesk/Master server: 111.11.11.111
Slave DNS: 222.222.22.222
Code:
May 6 08:51:39 ns2 named[1178]: zone example.com/IN: refresh: unexpected rcode (REFUSED) from master 111.11.11.111#53 (source 0.0.0.0#0)
May 6 08:51:39 ns2 named[1178]: zone example.com/IN: Transfer started.
May 6 08:51:40 ns2 named[1178]: transfer of 'example.com/IN' from 111.11.11.111#53: connected using 222.222.22.222#53166

I want to provide hosting with ads at the top of all pages but I don't want to deal with those "free hosting" scripts. I can set up the accounts manually, as it's a small and focused group I would be providing it to. I understand there is a simple way to place ads at the top of all the web pages on the server. Anyone know about this, can clue me in on how it's done?
I'm running CentOS with cPanel/WHM.

Where is the best place to purchase servers & other hardware in the UK?
Also I know very little in Linux, enough to do certain tasks although I usually have Cpanel loaded to do 90% of tasks.
Is it easy enough to load a server from scratch? also are there any places where you can get pre-setup / configured distro images?
or Can servers be purchased from anywhere already pre-setup / configured? with a linux distro?

if you could host a US ecommerce site anywhere, where would that be? is it better to host in the midwest to reach both coasts faster? is it cheaper to host in the sticks vs big cities?
we use 1/2 rack and only about 2mb/s bandwidth.... we currently host near NYC, but find that we never go to the datacenter anyway, so why pay for the convenience?

Moreover, if you'll contact them about hosting for ChildPorn,HYIP or similar BLACK content they'll redirects you to sister site blccgold.com for the BLACK hosting services, just ask them.

On Feb 21 I ordered a dedicated server with geekrack.com So when i got my server, i had asked them to have it portioned a specific way, but it was not set up like that So, when i asked them to have it reportioned and reimaged to the way I asked to have it set up, they tried to charge me $30.00. I told them that it was a unfair charge, so they did the good thing and dropped the charge for it. I submited that ticket on Feb 24, and the owner told me that this will be taken care of by the next morning. So, i gave it 24 hours, more time than they said, and it still was not done. I called them and they assured me that they were working on this issue. I gave it another 48 Hours, and still nothing was done. I found out that they were a reseller through burst.net, so i called burst.net to see if they had a ticket for this to be done, and the support tech I talked to told me that a ticket had not even been submitted! So when i spoke with the owner of geekrack.net, she got all grumpy with me and said she was going to yell at burst.net because they were not supposed to release any information. I told her that i would want my money back because their service says that it comes with 24/7 support. Now i was not even getting support, unless you call support saying, "ok we will do this" and not doing nothing. The owner is still refusing to give me a refund, so I have filed a chargeback with paypal, as much as I hate to do that, i beleive it is the only way i will get my money back. So in closing, DO NOT BUY FROM GEEKRACK.NET UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SCREWED!

where about I can get a decent 1/4 rack for a couple server's I'll be using and selling. I was thinking BlueSquare or Savvis. Blue square would be decent, although I don't see a price scheme on there website.
Poundhost, who are in the BSQ have been the most "attractive" to me. The rack is £260/month although It has a few thing's I would need more of and not sure if they offer it.
1) I will need atleast 50 IP Adress's
2) I want 20,000GB transfer on the rack, so each server get's 2000gb.
I was wondering also these question's:
1) Do I have to go to the datacenter personally, or can I send the server's down with a courier?
2) Is there a way on a rack, to limit each server to a set ammount of bandwith?
I'm asking these question's as I've never had a rack before, nor colocation, It's usually been dedicated. I've been looking to get atleast 50% of them quad core server's and hope they would sell like hotcakes.

I have spend 6 hours in the last 24hrs hand coding 300 lines of Permanent Redirects. I am moving my site from flat file (PHP with includes) to Drupal. I was going to drop it into the .htaccess file but am wondering if there is a more efficient place to put it since this is permanent. Should it go into the httpd file/Virtual host file, will cPanel over-ride that file?

I have agreed to rework my boss's storage rental facility website which means I will basically be starting over.
He's always trying to pinch pennies and suggested Google might be a good place to host the site.
From what I can tell, it looks like once you have your domain you pay $10 to host with Google them but it looks like a subdomain setting. For instance, my boss currently has a website called toeholdings.com and he's hosting with google. When I type in the toeholdings.com it redirects to http://partnerpage.google.com/toeholdings.com
If he's trying to get more traffic to this new website, won't that bury him since it appears to be a subdomain? I'm not completely sure what Google is doing here. It looks like beta version.
Does anyone know if their system includes website templates and software to help you build a site?

Which is the best place to purchase SuperMicro servers from, Germany or some other European country? Mind you that they will be deployed in Germany!
I am in search of SuperMicro servers as you can read from the title. What I need is to purchase 6-10 SuperMicro servers which will eventually be deployed in Germany. So the question here is whether it would be more suitable, with regards to prices, to purchase the servers from Germany or from some other European country that has better offers?

They are pretty close to loosing me as a customer with the current control panel debacle they have going on. So I was curious to see if any other host out there offers the same thing.

Who can you all recommend for renting out a quarter rack? Up until now, we've simply leased our servers, but we're ready to buy the things and ship 'em off. We have 4 servers we would like to rack - Two dual xeon 2.8's with 2gb ram, and two P4 3.6's with 2gb ram. I'm looking for US racking (but other locations, if you can highly recommend them, are fine). I'm looking for about 2TB Monthly Transfer per server - so about 8TB on a reasonably fast and reliable network.

I often need to access my sites from public places, which are behind firewalls, don't have access to hard disk and any Windows tool (just plain internet access).
Problem: firewall, closed ports: 8082 (cPanel), 2078 (SSL; I don't know, if I'll need this), 2077 and maybe others.
Which hosting features I need? to be able to
1. access cpanel, when port 8082 is closed (I was using cpanelproxy.net until now with success).
2. for uploading files from other websites directly to my website (without prior downloading on a PC hard disc) - I've herad SSH should work, but what exact SSH I need - any experience someone? Any other solution? I was trying WEb Disc feature in cPanel11 but it needs port 2078 or 2077 open...
