where about I can get a decent 1/4 rack for a couple server's I'll be using and selling. I was thinking BlueSquare or Savvis. Blue square would be decent, although I don't see a price scheme on there website.
Poundhost, who are in the BSQ have been the most "attractive" to me. The rack is £260/month although It has a few thing's I would need more of and not sure if they offer it.
1) I will need atleast 50 IP Adress's
2) I want 20,000GB transfer on the rack, so each server get's 2000gb.
I was wondering also these question's:
1) Do I have to go to the datacenter personally, or can I send the server's down with a courier?
2) Is there a way on a rack, to limit each server to a set ammount of bandwith?
I'm asking these question's as I've never had a rack before, nor colocation, It's usually been dedicated. I've been looking to get atleast 50% of them quad core server's and hope they would sell like hotcakes.
I have agreed to rework my boss's storage rental facility website which means I will basically be starting over.
He's always trying to pinch pennies and suggested Google might be a good place to host the site.
From what I can tell, it looks like once you have your domain you pay $10 to host with Google them but it looks like a subdomain setting. For instance, my boss currently has a website called toeholdings.com and he's hosting with google. When I type in the toeholdings.com it redirects to http://partnerpage.google.com/toeholdings.com
If he's trying to get more traffic to this new website, won't that bury him since it appears to be a subdomain? I'm not completely sure what Google is doing here. It looks like beta version.
Does anyone know if their system includes website templates and software to help you build a site?
Looking to quickly practice with and master my HTML/CSS skills after reading Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS. At the end of the book he mentions site hosting, which I know Google does for free through "Sites".
That said, Sites looks to be designed for the non-web designer, for the average Joe looking to get his own website. So I'm wondering if people who have used it know if it supports an external CSS or if I can upload various image files. I figure that it is probably best that I don't use shortcuts in the initial learning phase.
I don't have a particular site idea in mind, just looking to play around with things and try them out.
What I figured out is probably I need to have my own server as I am not finding them as an offer anywhere, reasonable enough to buy.
We do application hosting, and this is what we have seen until now isWe have database intensive applications
Never used beyond 300 GB of our metered bandwidth
All Applications consumed maximum of 3 GB space till date
All databases have never grown beyond 3 GB.
So we thought to have server with following specs and then collocate.AMD Opteron Dual Core
2 x 36 GB SCSI drives
Currently 2 GB RAM but should expandable to 4 GB
Preferred Super Micro motherboard (with IMPI)
1000-1500 GB metered quality bandwidth
10 mps dedicated port (up gradable to 100 mps like Softlayer)
Remote reboot port
6- IPs
Problems:We are not located in US
Never collocated before and do not know any intricacies.
Will colocation is practical option to us? If so, please help us know the RIGHT COLOCATION SPECS, the expected cost and the thing we should consider for decision. Also the appropriate server specs to order.
how to proceed with collocation say somewhere in usa ? Since i am based in Canada, and dell.com wont accept orders from me..... i did end up buying a server and get it shipped here and than later ship it across border and pay hefty fees for that to just get server collocated.
How do you guys do it ? Where you get your parts() from ?
Above all i am still lost as to what 95th percentile rule is and how the $xy per xy mbps works?
I am hosting my own web site on Jboss using my home windows machine.
Currently everything is running smooth apart from the now-and-then disonnection from my cable ISP (normal connection-not business)
Should I just get a business internet connection and do things myslef or should I consider colocating my server?
what is the best company i can shiped my equipment to it and they
our company outside usa and we need good company can offer full solutions
colocate because you have sites the size of myspace or because you offer dedicated server hosting yourselves? Because if I have the choice of renting a high end server at ThePlanet for $200 per month, or pay $300 a month for only bandwidth and just to have my server sit there in their facility, I rather rent. Plus I read a few posts in this forum where you guys say that you spend hours in the colocate. Does your server require that much maintenance or what are you doing?
View 12 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone here know where Fast VPS Nodes Providers are?
View 9 Replies View RelatedToday I was just going through some pricing and quotes trying to decide if multiple average priced servers ($150/mo - $400/mo) vs Powerhouse servers ($1,500/mo - $2,500/mo).
The powerhouse servers look mathematically to pay off better in the end but I am thinking that they may bottleneck easier.
We are interested to know how many VPS providers.. ( not resellers ) have hardware firewalls in front of their VPS hardware nodes?
If so, Do you find this impacts customer vps's?
What kind of hardware firewall do you use?
If not, how do you protect your hardware nodes from attack?
After some research I seem to find most providers do not in fact have any hardware firewalls in front of their VPS hardware nodes. Mostly they say it causes too many problems and tickets due to port blocking, etc... and customers complain about being restricted..
I have set up a backup node in PPA, and set it to be ready to provide, however backup tasks are saving the backups to the apache web server nodes? How do I find the cause of this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs here any way to get nginx running on the web nodes and be able to manage it from the CP like standalone Plesk servers?
View 3 Replies View RelatedShould excess bandwidth charges apply for traffic that occurs between 2 nodes on a lan?
We have 2 self service dedicated servers. One of them runs our production environment and the other is used for development and backups. We have a cron job which copies backup data from the production server to the development box. A few months ago a bug in our backup script resulted a $700 excess bandwidth charge from the hosting provider.
An analysis of the network stats showed this to be $350 for outbound traffic from the production server and $350 for inbound traffic to the development box. Internet traffic for the period in question was negligible. I disputed the charge but was unable to obtain a refund. I'm trying to decide whether to switch providers as a result.
Based on the information listed above what do you think most hosting providers would have done:
1. Exactly the same. The terms of service make the customer liable for all excess bandwidth.
2. Offered a $350 refund to avoid billing twice for the same traffic.
3. Refunded the full amount because the excess traffic did not touch the public wan.
I am having network issues, local servers in the /24 are unable to connect to VPS's.
If I make the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 too especific by adding a netmask then Nodes with assigned IPs on a different /28 will stop working/ping.
Right now it works, but it doesn't allow local servers to connect to VPS's (a problem) as one of those nodes is a VPS backup center.
I'm testing PPA and have now a questions. How can restrict a subscription to a service node? I have try that over the subscriptions and custom atribute's. That work for the most thinks (Apache/Postfix) but not for MySQL, all customers can by a create to choose the database server (all database servers). How can i customer don't allow to choose the database server?
For a example (web1, mail1 only -> db1) (web2, mail2 only -> db2)
And for the DNS settings to create automaticly a DNS for the database service? (as a sample: db.domain.de -> database service node)....
I can't seem to find if there is a way to specify what hostname is used for a service on a service node. For instance, if one creates a service node named web01, and makes it a DNS service node, is web01 what will be used when creating NS records in zone files, or is there a way to change that?
The ppademo.com site is offline (and was unlicensed again last week).
after learning that server aliases are not available for PPA, we are needing to rename our service nodes. We have looked through the documentation, and did see the ppa.hostname command for the management node but there does not seem to be an equivalent for service nodes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to run PPA on Azure but I only have one IP to work with, the public IP address. It's not possible to communicate between servers using the internal IP addresses as they are not necessarily on the same sub net. How can I get PPA and service nodes running on a single IP address per machine?
An example of the error I get when setting up a service node is
Failed to execute command 'cscript /Nologo http_download.js http://<private ip address>/tarballs/Win32Bin/support.cab'. Check logs in 'c:POA_Deploy' at host '<public ip address>' for more details about the reasons of failure.
I'm trying to create a subdomain using API but get this as the response:
[result] => Array
(
[status] => error
[errcode] => 1002
[errtext] => ProtDir_Apache::update() failed: Unable to create user protection directory:Service node is unknown for sysuser with id=0
[code]....
how do you set the hosting type for the subdomain?! I don't see this in the docs.
I am working on a new install of PPA, and after installation on the management node Im trying to add the other nodes. Ive tried to add a Apache, Postfix, DNS & DB node, and they all have the same issue. The installation task fails with the following error:
Destination host 'node.domain.com' (#3), IP '192.168.1.*' : The operation can not be completed because the following component is missing or is not running: pleskd (sc_name '', sc_id #45)
(domain and IP are removed here, correct in the original error. The IP is a backchannel IP, and the public IP was properly set in the management node).
I've verified that pleskd was installed and is running on each node:
Code:
24710 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/pem/sbin/pleskd --props-file /usr/local/pem/etc/pleskd.props --send-signal
24712 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/pem/sbin/pleskd --props-file /usr/local/pem/etc/pleskd.props --send-signal
24714 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/pem/sbin/pleskd --props-file /usr/local/pem/etc/pleskd.props --send-signal
...
I've verified that my management node can connect to the nodes in question via 8532:
Code:
]# telnet 192.168.1.* 8352
Trying 192.168.1.*..
Connected to 192.168.1.*.
Escape character is '^]'.
^]
telnet> quit
Connection closed.
So there shouldn't be any firewall or other networking issues.
What else can I try to get this running?
What is the best place to reg .tel domain name?
I think of eurodns and sibername.
So which one is better to use?
I want to provide hosting with ads at the top of all pages but I don't want to deal with those "free hosting" scripts. I can set up the accounts manually, as it's a small and focused group I would be providing it to. I understand there is a simple way to place ads at the top of all the web pages on the server. Anyone know about this, can clue me in on how it's done?
I'm running CentOS with cPanel/WHM.
where is the place to get backups utilizing R1Soft.
Something we are looking at and wondering as to what would be the best companie/s to have your backups at.
Where is the best place to purchase servers & other hardware in the UK?
Also I know very little in Linux, enough to do certain tasks although I usually have Cpanel loaded to do 90% of tasks.
Is it easy enough to load a server from scratch? also are there any places where you can get pre-setup / configured distro images?
or Can servers be purchased from anywhere already pre-setup / configured? with a linux distro?
if you could host a US ecommerce site anywhere, where would that be? is it better to host in the midwest to reach both coasts faster? is it cheaper to host in the sticks vs big cities?
we use 1/2 rack and only about 2mb/s bandwidth.... we currently host near NYC, but find that we never go to the datacenter anyway, so why pay for the convenience?
Is there a KB (I couldn't find one) - to implement rate limiting for receiving mail on our service nodes?
Just had another customer account compromised (not a very weak password either) - and that meant > 250,000 emails - a LOT of cleanup.
Not only do we need rate limiting, but we also need notification of potential abuses.
Seems blacklotus.net, blccgold.com and whole the IRC company it's a really BLACK business! BlackLotus.net is "legally" providing hosting for HYIP SCAMS (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HYIP)

Unfortunately they don't answer abuse reports.
Moreover, if you'll contact them about hosting for ChildPorn,HYIP or similar BLACK content they'll redirects you to sister site blccgold.com for the BLACK hosting services, just ask them.
On Feb 21 I ordered a dedicated server with geekrack.com So when i got my server, i had asked them to have it portioned a specific way, but it was not set up like that So, when i asked them to have it reportioned and reimaged to the way I asked to have it set up, they tried to charge me $30.00. I told them that it was a unfair charge, so they did the good thing and dropped the charge for it. I submited that ticket on Feb 24, and the owner told me that this will be taken care of by the next morning. So, i gave it 24 hours, more time than they said, and it still was not done. I called them and they assured me that they were working on this issue. I gave it another 48 Hours, and still nothing was done. I found out that they were a reseller through burst.net, so i called burst.net to see if they had a ticket for this to be done, and the support tech I talked to told me that a ticket had not even been submitted! So when i spoke with the owner of geekrack.net, she got all grumpy with me and said she was going to yell at burst.net because they were not supposed to release any information. I told her that i would want my money back because their service says that it comes with 24/7 support. Now i was not even getting support, unless you call support saying, "ok we will do this" and not doing nothing. The owner is still refusing to give me a refund, so I have filed a chargeback with paypal, as much as I hate to do that, i beleive it is the only way i will get my money back. So in closing, DO NOT BUY FROM GEEKRACK.NET UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SCREWED!
