Have A Bare Server, How To Put It Online

Sep 7, 2007

I have a bare CentOS 4.4 server.

I will be only using the server to host movies.

I created a user and uploaded files via FTP. Now I just want the files visible online.

What do I need to do? Do I need to just upload and untar apache and it will work? Is it complicated? I heard lighttpd might be better than apache if I use the server to just serve movies, is that correct?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Full System Restore With Rsync - Restore Safe?

Mar 23, 2015

Would like to know what are the dangers of backing up and restoring full entire system backups (with plesk installed) to another server with a different ip address? Will the restored plesk setup operate properly and offer an ip address change in the system, or will there be any pre-requisites required such as manual ip changing within the system core files?

Restore A Deleted LVM

Nov 18, 2008

I've come into a bind here.

I need to restore a deleted VPS. Problem is that another VPS was created right after the VPS was deleted. This is on a Xen hypervm slave.

I tried running vgcfgrestore -f /etc/lvm/archive/VolGroup00_01381.vg VolGroup00
but its not bringing back the files.

Any ideas at all at on how to recover? Is this even possible? I just need to salvage some files from /home from the old setup.

Perhaps delete the new VPS and then do a restore?

The username is right, the password I use is correct. I even deleted, recreated the mysql database and username, still giving the same error. The path to sql file is right and only 68k in size.

Backing up a server is obviously very important. Lets say I do a daily rSync backup and eventually my server HDD crashes, I know it isn't just a 'one click' job to restore my backup but what is it necessary to do in order to carry out a complete and effective restore back to how it was?

How To Restore 1 Database Out Of A File Containing Many

Apr 24, 2008

i found out that for the past 6 months ive been backup up all my MySQL databases into one big file. However, now that i actually need to restore a database, i can't find out how to actually restore 1 database out of this enormous file.

I can find the Mysql shell command to restore 1 database ... but it doesnt tell me if you need to have a 1 database dump file for this as well. It does not mention what happens if you execute that command on the big file containing all databases. Restoring all server databases would be a very bad thing.

How Long For A Virtuozo VPS Restore

Dec 24, 2008

Had a problem whereby the best solution was to ask support to restore my VPS from the Virtuozo backup.

It has now been 2 days and no idea when it will complete.

Seems excessive, or something wrong, but support just say "It is not uncommon for restores to take this long with the backup software we are using".

Just wondering, have any of you ever needed to ask support to restore from backup, and how long did it take?

The amount of data is approx 30GB.
