Accessing Locally Hosted Sites Across A Network - Macintosh
Jul 25, 2007
I currently have an Apache server running PHP and Mysql on my MacBook Pro.
I also have a copy of Parallels running, which hosts a Windows OS. In OSX, I have multiple VirtualHosts set up, and they all work great when accessed from OSX. All the sites are within my "Sites" directory. Now, when I browse to my Macs ip address in windows, I only get shown my Sites folder, and get shown the directory.
How would I be able to access these local sites as I do in OSX? I have tried configuring my hosts file in Windows, but it doesnt help.

My website is hosted locally on my network, so I'm unable to view the .com address for it (i can only access through the local IP address). This makes it really hard to test throughly.
Is there any way to view this website from how it would be outside the network? I know i can do it from another location but I need a solution that is right here. I do not have a off site computer i can remote desktop to either.

I'm using a shared host that provides good service and support, but there's one major issue I discovered recently:
Other sites hosted on their server are accessible through my domains and subdomain. For example:
Account2 on their server can be accessed through:
[url]
[url]
Host says:
"Because everything is Name-based, apache decides what directory is going to be used based upon the name that is provided. However, because the username is valid, it treats it as a vaild URL and redirects it to your site. There is no security issue, as this is just the way apache’s configuration works."
Is it really normal? Does the same happen on all apache servers? I think SE's would treat the other pages as mine, no?

I own two large hacking // gaming sites and host a few others. I need a company that can offer fully managed, secure, ddos protected, fast dedicated servers.
A big thing with me is if someone sends my hosting company a message saying, HEY your server is hosting hacks or illegal material, the company wont just go OH OK and shut down the server.

I am trying to increase the PHP memory limit for all Plesk hosted sites.
I've updated the 'memory_limit' setting in /etc/php.ini
Then I ran
Code:
/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all
/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-server
Checking a phpinfo() page on hosted sites I see that this setting has not been effective.
Checking some /var/www/vhosts/system/domain.com/etc/php.ini also shows the old setting, and I can see that these files have not been updated.
I note that all these domain php.ini files have been modified earlier today, all at the same time, so presumably some process did regenerate them earlier. All these files hae the "DO NOT MODIFY ..." heading
I realise that I can go the the domain in Plesk GUI and save the PHP settings to force an update, but is there anyway to force the regeneration of all of these files via CLI?

I'm moving from my old XP PC to a new PC with Vista (a mistake, but that's a different story).
I'm trying to set up some sites in IIS so that I can develop locally without having to publish to a remote web server.
I've installed IIS7 from the control panel, and am now looking to set up my first site. I've put the site name in, and the path to the site on the computer, but I'm getting an error in the 'bindings' section. I've left all of this empty because I don't know what it means (it didn't ask for any of this in IIS on XP) but when I try to add the site it gives me the following error:
"The binding '*:80:' is assigned to another site. If you assign the same binding to this site, you will only be able to start one of the sites. Are you sure that you want to add this duplicate binding?"
Does anyone know what to do here? I'll need to add about 100 domains to IIS so I want them all to be accessible locally. How do I do this?

Plesk delivering email locally to a not existing mailbox instead of sending it to an external party. First I was using a local mailbox, but my client wanted to control the email using their own server. So I've changed the MX records to this new server. Deleted the inbox in Plesk and turned off Mail support for this domain.
New situation: DNS server for domain.com is hosted on a different location and points to my Plesk server for the website and the MX records point to the clients server for the mail.
Email send from email addresses like gmail are send correctly to the clients server. Email addresses from my PLesk server and forms from the website are send locally.

I've a box running Linux Plesk 12.0.18 + Postfix and hosting mydomain.com. Email service is hosted by an external provider.
The problem is that I can't write to postmaster@mydomain.com because Postfix tries to deliver it locally.
What I've already done:
Configured MX record on DNS to point the external provider's server.
Disabled mail service for the TLD from plesk panel or with:
/usr/local/psa/bin/mail --off mydomain.com
The problem still remains.
I think I'm facing on Plesk 12 the same problem described here and elsewhere on this forum for Plesk 9: [URL]

We need to upload to a virtual server (managed with Plesk 11.5) a Wordpress site developed locally. We made this operations without problems many times on other hostings managed with custom panels, non-Plesk.
On the virtual server with Plesk, however, once the files are uploaded via FTP, the database via phpMyAdmin and updated the Wordpress configuration file, when you go to visit the website, it does not display anything and the browser opens the download window for a text file called "download" that contains the code of the file index.php of WordPress.

I am looking at getting a second server, this one a Windows 2003 machine and I was wondering how you mange those servers remotely. Is it done using command line or is their a gui app to connect to it remotely? Can I install something like pcAnywhere on it or is there something web server specific?

Here's my problem:
1) I have a website running on a Linux server somewhere
2) I have a big hard drive at home with a bunch of videos.
3) I want to be able to manipulate the videos at home from the server. I want to be able to do this like run ffmpeg commands on it to get the video length, or create a thumbnail from any frame of the video.
Here are the caveats:
- I do NOT want the complete video to be uploaded to the server every time i have to manipulate a video. In the case of thumbnailing, the processing should be done on my home computer, but the output should be copied over to the server.
- Speed is not an issue. This doesnt have to be the fastest solution in the world.
- My home computer is running linux now, but I can change it to whatever I want.
- My server is a shared host; I do not have full root access. However, my host is kind enough to give me reasonable leverage.
I'm thinking the way that this could happen would be by mounting my home computers disk on the server so that I can access the files "locally". I don't know how to do this though, or even if this is the right way to do this.

Few months back we migrated to a new server (Layered tech Savvis to Databank)
All has been running smoothly, better than before the move.
Over the last week we have had reports from a few clients in various locations across australia and a few in the uk that they can not access the server.
The DNS is resolving correctly for them and traceroutes have not proven anything.
Layered tech have not been real helpful, eventually they put me onto their network department who ran a global test which came back as the server being accessible from everywhere.
The problem appears to be intermittent

when I install apache on my machine I can open up port 80 on the router and allow outside access.
But, now here is the issue.
I have a p4 server which connects via ethernet to my apple mac. My apple mac connects to the internet via wireless. My apple mac has web sharing activated so the server can access the web. The server has OpenBSD 4.3 installed without X.
What I want to do is get my server online.
It's IP is 192.168.2.4, my macs IP is 192.168.1.1. In the router configuration how would I set it up? Would the router see 192.168.2.4?

I'm wanting to access one of my MySQL db's on my VPS (WHM/cPanel).
Specifically, I want to connect to the db from Excel and pull down certain data live.
I've set up my IP address for remote access in cPanel.
I've done this before on my old shared hosting account, where the hostname for the db was [url]
But under WHM/cPanel, the only hostname used for MySQL is 'localhost', which doesn't work when trying to connect remotely.

We have an internal server running Red Hat 8 or 9 that was taken offline at least 18 months ago. The guy who set up the box is long gone. Unfortunately with him went the root password. It wasn't a big deal until we realized there is some code we do want to get off of that box now that may be useful in a future project. In particular the database structure for one project. Is there any way to get access to this data or is it just lost?

I have server which all files and folders are stored on. Now there are a couple of folders which are only accessible by one machine at present and all the other machines when they access the folder it is displayed as empty. I have checked all permisions and all machines viewing of files settings are the same and folders accessible by all machines have the same settings as the couple which are only accessible from this one machine.
If I copy and paste the folder all machines then have access to the folder from although this would be a lengthy exercise for the full hard drive.

I have a mySQL db on Host A and I want to be able to access its data from Host A/B/C/D/E.
Questions:
1. If I have your typical reseller account with WHM and CPanel, would I just use localhost for each site on Host A or would I only use localhost for the domain it is on? (Assume mysite1.com and mysite2.com is on the same reseller account, and the db phpmyadmin is at mysite1.com/phpmyadmin.)
2. For Host B/C/D/E, how would I let them have access to the mySQL db on Host A? Do I just add them to the Access Hosts section of the Database Manager section of CPanel? Would that involve putting each IP address in there or its nameserver or what? Would a wildcard be useful here?
