I have a cheap managed server and support is of little help BUT they will do what I tell them, where should I tell them to start to fix high mysql load?
The server currently has a large IPB forum, a large 4images gallery, and a couple popular Wordpress blogs, and this combo keeps taking mysql down.
What can I do server side to help this? And what shouldn't I do?

have googled this to death. solutions are not working.
so far have tried the whole linking mysql.sock to the file in /tmp, changing mysql root password, rebooting, adding socket parameters in my.cnf. nothing works!

What command could I use to see all the currently running services on my Windows (vista) computer?
I'm trying to start my MySQL server, but it won't start. I think I know what the problem is though I'm not sure. I think that the service name "MySQL" is already running...and I need to remove it or something.
Btw...my apache and php is fine. Though...I cannot use my MySQL from php obviously...since it's not running.
I just installed mySQL server on a brand new dedicated server and am getting Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times and am still getting the same error.
Can anyone recommend a Apached and MYSQL optimization expert? I just some optimization done on mysql and apache upgraded... but pache wouldn't restart with the following entries:
if i remove above then it starts... but my CPU spikes and I am getting a ton of errors emailed to me:
Invalid SQL: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT(userid)) AS count FROM vb_session WHERE vb_session.userid>0 AND vb_session.lastactivity>1245294346;
MySQL Error : Out of memory (Needed 8388580 bytes) Error Number : 5 Request Date : Wednesday, June 17th 2009 @ 09:39:06 PM Error Date : Wednesday, June 17th 2009 @ 09:39:06 PM
Its constantly complaining about this same query and i thought i removed all of the vbulletin options...
i am pulling my hair out... cuz my server isn't swapping, ther are 0ver 8GBs in cache.... but my CPU goes up
Here is original problem thread...

2nd post has recommended config... and my subsequent probs
I am getting the error (as listed in the title) on my server. This is a BRAND NEW FRESH install on a brand new server...
OS: Unix Fedora Kernel Version: Kernel 2.6.18-1/2798.fc6 on an i686 Hardware Information: Brand new Dell SC1435 Server Software Version: MySQl 5 Control Panel: Nothing yet
Apache starts ok but when I go to strart MySQL I get the following error...
[root@server112]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld start Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon Starting MySQL: [FAILED]
Does anyone have any ideas? I did some pretty extensive searching... Web Hosting Talk article that basically describes the same error. I followed everything as listed in his suggestion and it didn't change anything.
I have one bare server and installed everything myself. however, I found apache, mysqld can not automatically start after reboot, may I know how to enable them to automatically start after reboot?
how to tune linux (currently running fedora4) server to improve download speeds for the client. I have observed that if i download from sun it is very fast compared my own server which is hosted on cogent backbone or any other.
Please take into account that both mine and other server both are at relatively same number of hops and ping time. and my server and the carrier has enough bandwidth to fill whole 100mbps, even the client is a server which is on a different backbone which can fill whole 100mbps, also guys i was able to fill whole 100mbps while downloading from sun. but when i download test file from my server it is lagging at 3mbps around. only single thread using wget command. Now what is it i need to do to get my server able to push full pipe even for single thread, ping time is 25ms. if not full at least half. let me know if you have some workaround, and server is apache no load.
Recently we ordered a few servers with soft raid1, but seems the soft raid doesn't perform well, copy a 1G file, it takes about 40 seconds.
also sometimes it takes very very long time, I haven't count it, at least a few minutes, just like the server is dead.
I have run this command. dd if=/dev/zero of=test.bin bs=1000M count=1 1+0 records in 1+0 records out 1048576000 bytes (1.0 GB) copied, 1.14416 seconds, 916 MB/s
But obviously it takes more more than 1 second, why it shows only takes 1 second?
I have been reading quite a bit lately about the Internap FCP. I am wondering how much it actually improves network performance and how it compares to BGP4. We currently use BGP4, but are considering using a data center with the Internap FCP for a project for a client.
I am looking for reviews from others who have experience with the Internap FCP and it's performance. How does it compare to a network using BGP4? I know that FCP uses more intelligent routing than BGP, but how big of an improvement does it make?
As per topic, what is the best method to do to the hardware to improve bandwidth / uplink speed of server?
I have a production server that is used for regular file serving.
P4 3.0Ghz 4GB RAM 500GB + 160GB + 160GB hard disk 2Mbps Dedicated + 10Mbps shared.
However, the most I can pulled through the whole server is always between 1.5Mbps - 3Mbps, anyway to pull the speed up to around 10Mbps should there be availability of bandwidth for me to burst?
What steps can we take to improve SpamAssassin performance? I know this was talked about in older Plesk versions, but we may be able to do more now. What configurations can I do to stop more spam?
We are getting trouble with a site into a dedicadte server, more specific performance issue due to many visitors on same time 1000. Mysql is overload. We would like to use xcache to improve performance, using xcache with plesk 12 centos? its safe, works fine?
I am just a beginner and it is about a month that the mysql loads on my server is so high , I have checked the mysql processlist via cpanel and there is no account that takes high mysql and make it high , and even I have checked for any possible rotten databases. but still the server load is so high and I can not control it , even when I restart it just after a minute it goes up again.
just the spamd command takes a high CPU usage sometimes. what it should be from? the spamd for a special account!
I need to optimize mysql , and need help. please do not tell me to hire an expert , just help me thanks
and another question is that how can I check which account is sending spam and stop it?
I have a dual xeon server that host around 15 small website, but these days I see that the load generated from mysql is very high as you can see below is consumes 32.6 CPU
There is a problem with mysql and server load. Some how mysql usage is going to over 100, but server load is not increasing, but it is crashing more often.
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 5931 mysql 16 0 111m 20m 3888 S 71 2.1 10488:45 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/ --datadir=/var
What could cause the problem? I did mysqladmin pr and only 2 database connections are existing.
