IIS7+Plesk9+Xcache = Half Working Xcache

Nov 9, 2009

The issue I'm having is I want to use Xcache, the php opcode cache for PHP
I've installed it and it works fine, except it only works on ONE domain
I've made sure all domains work in the shard IIS pool, I've also tried copying the PHP.ini file to the domain's httpdocs folder, incase it needs it, but it still won't work

When loading www.thedarkages.info, I get this spammed across my screen

Warning: xcache_isset() [function.xcache-isset]: xcache.var_size is either 0 or too small to enable var data caching in [path]includesclass_datastore.php on line 557

Warning: xcache_isset() [function.xcache-isset]: xcache.var_size is either 0 or too small to enable var data caching in [path]includesclass_datastore.php on line 557

But on this site - www.uoforums.net - There is no error and that forum is using XCache without issue

I've tried increasing the var_size to a higher limit, but it doesn't have any effect.

PHP is running in FastCGI mode right now, I tried setting it to ISAPI mode, but it still threw back the same error

Installing Httpd-devel Module On Fedora Updates Apache

Feb 26, 2008

to install mod_evasive module on our Apache2 that runs on Fedora server. However, for that we need Apache's apxs to compile it. We found out that we can do that by running the

yum install httpd-devel
However, when we run that, we get the following:

=============================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
=============================================================================
Installing:
httpd-devel i386 2.2.8-1.fc7 updates 144 k
Updating:
httpd i386 2.2.8-1.fc7 updates 1.0 M
openldap i386 2.3.34-7.fc7 updates 291 k

apr-util-devel i386 1.2.10-1.fc7 updates 54 k
cyrus-sasl-devel i386 2.1.22-8.fc7 updates 351 k

mod_ssl i386 1:2.2.8-1.fc7 updates 85 k
openldap-clients i386 2.3.34-7.fc7 updates 179 k

Transaction Summary
==========================================
Install 7 Package(s)
Update 5 Package(s)
Remove 0 Package(s)

Total download size: 7.0 M
We're kind of cautios, because we have never updated Apache on our live server. We'd prefer if we could download and install just the httpd-devel module. Is this possible?

If not, would this mess up any of our existing configuration? Could we expect any problems? And do we need to shut Apache down, then run the updates and only then restart it?

XCache 1.2.2 & Windows

May 3, 2009

I recently migrated my server from a CentOS VPS to a dedicated Windows Web Server 2008 machine.

Since the migration I have noticed some "odd" behaviour with xcache:

When I open the xcache admin panel I can see the hit counts for the var/php caches, under the CentOS server these values just went up and up into the high millions until the server or Apache was restarted.

Under Windows the hit counts never gets higher than around 6000, typically when I open the xcache admin panel I click on "statistics" a few times to make sure everything is incrementing as normal, however since the server move these get to around the 6k mark and then drops back down to sub 100 and start again.

I have also noticed that if I make changes in the PHP application running on the site (vBulletin) the changes are not reflected immediately and can sometimes take 30 seconds to "come through", this is a behaviour I never saw under CentOS

If this just a quirk of windows, or something I should be looking into further?

This is my php.ini file

;;;;;;;;;;;
; WARNING ;
;;;;;;;;;;;
; This is the default settings file for new PHP installations.
; By default, PHP installs itself with a configuration suitable for
; development purposes, and *NOT* for production purposes.
; For several security-oriented considerations that should be taken
; before going online with your site, please consult php.ini-recommended
; and http://php.net/manual/en/security.php.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; About this file ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
;
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
;
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
;
; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
;
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
; | bitwise OR
; & bitwise AND
; ~ bitwise NOT
; ! boolean NOT
;
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
;
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
;
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
;
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
;
; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin
; defaults (that is, if no php.ini is used, or if you delete these lines,
; the builtin defaults will be identical).

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Language Options ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; Enable the PHP scripting language engine under Apache.
engine = On

; Allow the <? tag. Otherwise, only <?php and <script> tags are recognized.
; NOTE: Using short tags should be avoided when developing applications or
; libraries that are meant for redistribution, or deployment on PHP
; servers which are not under your control, because short tags may not
; be supported on the target server. For portable, redistributable code,
; be sure not to use short tags.

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).
output_buffering = Off

; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
; is doing.
; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".
;output_handler =

; Transparent output compression using the zlib library
; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size
; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)
; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP
; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.
; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard
; output_handler, or otherwise the output will be corrupted.
zlib.output_compression = Off

; You cannot specify additional output handlers if zlib.output_compression
; is activated here. This setting does the same as output_handler but in
; a different order.
;zlib.output_handler =

; Implicit flush tells PHP to tell the output layer to flush itself
; automatically after every output block. This is equivalent to calling the
; PHP function flush() after each and every call to print() or echo() and each
; and every HTML block. Turning this option on has serious performance
; implications and is generally recommended for debugging purposes only.
implicit_flush = Off

; The unserialize callback function will be called (with the undefined class'
; name as parameter), if the unserializer finds an undefined class

Memcache Or XCache

Aug 3, 2008

With my hosting account I have access to both memcache and xcache at the same time which at this point I am utilizing both but I have to decide which plugin for wordpress I would like to install since they are both have the same file name and would need to be installed in the same directory.

Currently I am running the memcache plugin and not the xcache because my host says it will perform better under higher load being that memcache is installed on a separate server with 16GB of RAM.

They feel using the xcache plugin would really on be beneficial during times of little strain on the server but not during heavy load.

so what do you think? Like I said both caching systems are installed and running but which plugin should I make wordpress utilize? memcache or xcache?

FYI - I do have times when I have 600 to 800 concurrent connections

Xcache Trouble On Centos 4.5

Apr 8, 2009

I managed to install xcache on my Centos 4.5 server.

Xcache is shown in my phpinfo, but I think there's problem since php -v gives me following error, I don't have a clue how to fix this. See attached images.
I tried several different configurations in xcache.ini, but all with this same result.

It seems that this error doens't occur always.

Xcache Or Eaccelerator For Wordpress Site

Oct 15, 2009

I have been trying to figure out which one I should be using for my wordpress site. I have read some discussion but after reading it all I am on the fence. Will Xcache work with cpanel?

The server is running XEN, with cpanel/whm, php5

The server spec is:
3.0Ghz - 8 cpu's
2048MB RAM, and 2048MB SWAP

I have also heard some people using litespeed server, would this be any good?

XCache - Errors After Migration From CentOS To Windows

Apr 11, 2009

I have just migrated my server from a Linux CentOS VPS to a dedicated Windows Web Server 2008, everything seems to have gone quite well except xcache.

I have installed xCache v1.2.2 with the following configuration:

Quote:

[xcache-common]
extension = php_xcache.dll

[xcache.admin]
xcache.admin.auth = On
xcache.admin.user = "admin"
xcache.admin.pass = "b95e560e4a31ce20cd522f224932c080"

[xcache]
xcache.shm_scheme = "mmap"
xcache.size = 48M
xcache.count = 2
xcache.slots = 8K
xcache.ttl = 7200
xcache.gc_interval = 300
xcache.var_size = 128M
xcache.var_count = 1
xcache.var_slots = 8K
xcache.var_ttl = 7200
xcache.var_maxttl = 14400
xcache.var_gc_interval = 300
xcache.test = Off
xcache.readonly_protection = Off
xcache.mmap_path = "anonymous"
xcache.coredump_directory = "c:/xCache/tmp"
xcache.cacher = On
xcache.stat = On
xcache.optimizer = On

[xcache.coverager]
xcache.coverager = Off
xcache.coveragedump_directory = ""

If I open phpinfo I can see that xcache is loaded and can see the settings, I have also installed the xcache admin panel and I am able to access that without problem.

However if I enable xcache on in the PHP scripts (vbulletin) file I get multiples of the following errors:

Quote:

Warning: xcache_isset() [function.xcache-isset]: xcache.var_size is either 0 or too small to enable var data caching in [path]includesclass_datastore.php on line 557

Quote:

Warning: xcache_unset() [function.xcache-unset]: xcache.var_size is either 0 or too small to enable var data caching in [path]includesclass_datastore.php on line 596

Quote:

Warning: xcache_set() [function.xcache-set]: xcache.var_size is either 0 or too small to enable var data caching in [path]includesclass_datastore.php on line 597

Now unless I am being thick, var_size is currently set to 128M, it was originally 4M but as the error suggested "too small" I upped it a little with no affect.

The only thing I can think might be related to this is that I am using PHP 5.2.6 and I am using xCache 1.2.2 for PHP 5.2.5 as there is no 5.2.6 version

Xcache 1.2.2 Compatibility Whit Zend Optimizer 3.3.0

Jan 4, 2008

i´m trying to install xcache to test it on my VPS i have Zend Optimizer 3.3.0.
One of the problems i´m having is this one

PHP Fatal error: [Zend Optimizer] Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 is incompatible with XCache 1.2.1 in Unknown on line 0

And the xcache not being placed on phpinfo.
I try the fix seen in this topic (last 2 post), but didn´t work for me
[url]

There was a tech trying to install xcache but was not possible for him, another one told me that they are incompatible (xcache whit Zend Optimizer), and another one advice me that they are compatible.

Opcode Caches And Segfaults (XCache, EAccelerator)

Dec 8, 2007

Running gallery2 on a box with 4GB RAM. Tried PHP 5.2 w/XCache then with eAccelerator, both caused segmentation faults after a couple days.

"In a previous article, I stressed a common problem with all PHP op-code caches/accelerators: they die with segmentation faults every once in a while."
[url]

Anybody using logwatcher? How many faults per day do you get? If you're using a cache and never get segfaults how busy is your site and how do you prevent them?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: How To Disable Xcache Being Installed Or Updated Automatically

Apr 29, 2015

I wanted to permanently get rid of xcache from my Plesk 12 as some softwares we are using crashes if xcache is installed or enabled on server.

At present I am doing yum remove to remove xcache php extension from server which is allowing our software to work but after couple of days, its coming back again.

I found traces in autoinstaller log, but I am not sure how to completely disable only xcache for all php versions installed on server i.e. PHP 5.3, 5.4, 5.5

Httpd

Aug 18, 2008

I know that there are a lot of posts about this but... i have a problem w my apache... it was working fine until today... i get this e-mail from WHM whenever httpd fails... and its pretty often:

Quote:

httpd failed @ Mon Aug 18 16:23:13 2008. A restart was attempted automagically.

Failure Reason: Timeout while trying to connect to service

I wanna know how to check in the error log the entries of just today. because when i put "cat error_log" i start receiving things from last week and this is happening today...

i've tried /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf and then restarted, but still the same.
