How Do I Check If I'm Running Ext2 Or Ext3?
Jun 13, 2009
have a centos 5.1 box but not sure if i have ext2 or ext3 on the drives? basically trying to disable the file system check if there's a hard boot, which i wouldn't risk if its ext2 but will do if its ext3.

When I am having server issues with my VPS, tech support comes back with something like
Quote:
Following processes are using CPU resources.
Top Process %CPU 56.4 httpd [ www .myurl.com ] [/php/index.php?qdGFnZ2VkLmNvbQ--&hl1111101001 ]
Top Process %CPU 53.5 httpd [ www .myurl.com] [/php/index.php?qdGFnZ2VkLmNvbQ--&hl1111101001]
Top Process %CPU 25.4 httpd [ www .myurl.com] [/php/index.php?qaHR0cDovL3d3dy50YWdnZWQuY29tLw%3D%3D]
Can you check which php files are running?
where does that come from? I know they use shell access but where is that info?

We used Red Hat with ext2 as our file system on an old server with 100k+ of image files in a single directory. This seemed to preform ok until we switched to FreeBSD using UFS. Now images load very slow. I have read that Ext2 uses and internal hash to speed lookups, while UFS does linear searches for lookups.

We're considering deploying a large server that will have 8x 500GB drives in a RAID-10 config. I intend to use a 3ware 9650SE w/ BBU along with A/B power to each of the PSU's.
My question is... since this will return into a 2TB array/partition, in event of a crash (kernel panic, etc -- I expect a power outage will be very, very rare if at all) what do you guys think the fsck time would be? In my experience a RAID BBU significantly drops it, sometimes to the point of no manual fsck required, but in event of a manual fsck shouldn't the BBU be able to provide more consistent data (less errors) and therefore a much shorter fsck? Maybe just recovering the journal?

OS: Debian etch
partition type: EXT3
I was unziping from network 4gb file to my server and server crashed. When I got it back up partition has allocated 4gb of space, but there is no file I cannot reallocate it.
/dev/hda6 67G 63G 437M 100% /home
Like you can see above 4gb is allocated but it is not used, so what can i do?

what are peoples opinions on running ext3 in writeback journal mode when the filesystem resides on a BBU (battery backup unit) RAID array. The BBU retains data cached on the RAID card, but all the delayed writes from writeback mode may not even have gotten to the RAID card. Am I correct on that logic?

I wanted to mount a Usb portable drive of some data I have inside my Linux server and make them read on my Windows xp.
The drive has been formatted as ext3 and it just won't show in "my computer" inside Windows unless I reformat it again as ntfs.
The same turns around if if I format as ntfs, and i can't mount it under linux with the message "mount: unknown file system type 'ntfs'"

Our server with raid 10 has had a failed hdd (which was replaced) and a
corrupt ext3 filesystem.
The server is now booted with Knoppix but drives will not mount. All we are trying to at this point is salvage as much data as we can.

I would like to know how to check load via ssh and check files causing load?
I want the ssh codes for 2 different set of control panels, one with cpanel+whm and other with kloxo+hypervm
and I would also know how to check the files causing the load, such as some files could have been interrupted while processing, so they could be causing load some times, so I want to stop such processes if any are running on the vps on my friends accounts

Let's say I have a VPS with 512 MBs of RAM.
How do I check in shell that this is indeed the case?
I read in some places that "top" and "free -m" and such can help.
But these gave me way more than 512.
Here is the output from my "free -m". Total shows here 3886 MBs of MEM??? That is almost 4 Gigs. Please someone explain this.
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3886 3721 164 0 17 542

I'm running CSF on a Cpanel server and have questions about new features in CSF
Apache Check
Check Apache weak SSL/TLS Ciphers (SSLCipherSuite)
Results
Cipher list []. Due to weaknesses in the SSLv2 cipher you should disable SSLv2 in WHM > Apache Configuration > Global Configuration > SSLCipherSuite > Add -SSLv2 to SSLCipherSuite and/or remove +SSLv2. Do not forget to Save AND then Rebuild Configuration and Restart Apache, otherwise the changes will not take effect in httpd.conf
Can someone explain this in laymen terms? I know this is new in Cpanel. I'm already running Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.9 with suPHP enabled and mod_security as well (these rules: [url]
Also, what exactly are these CSF checks?
Check csf PT_SKIP_HTTP option
This option disables checking of processes running under apache and can limit false-positives but may then miss running exploits
Check csf SAFECHAINUPDATE option
This option closes a window of opportunity that opens when dynamic chain updates occur

I recently added ubl.unsubscore.com to my email server. I only have that one and the SpamHaus (Zen) activated.
I am able to see the SpamHaus listed on DNSStuff and on SpamHaus website that the person trying to email me is not listed.
So I have to think that it is ubl.unsubscore.com list. But what domain name can I enter into the browser to check this list? www.unsubscore.com does not work. A little searching led me to lashback, but the IP is not listed there either.

Few days ago I had a problem with my httpd. I finally nailed it down and came on a conclusion that my MaxClients were set too low so I had to set it to high number and it seems like that the proble of "Network Timeout" had been resolved but now the problem is still continued. Here is what I think is wrong
Cpu(s): 1.5%us, 0.4%sy, 0.0%ni, 96.7%id, 0.3%wa, 0.3%hi, 0.8%si, 0.0%st
The 96.7%id always stays above 90% is that bad and how do i fix it?

How can I see what user is causing this ? I have installed mytop but when I use it I get

Cannot connect to MySQL server. Please check the:
* database you specified "test" (default is "test")
* username you specified "root" (default is "root")
* password you specified "" (default is "")
* hostname you specified "localhost" (default is "localhost")
* port you specified "3306" (default is 3306)
* socket you specified "" (default is "")
The options my be specified on the command-line or in a ~/.mytop
config file. See the manual (perldoc mytop) for details.
Here's the exact error from DBI. It might help you debug:
Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
I really need to track down the culprit!
