Stuck On Installing Godaddy SSL
Okay, so far I have done this:

1. register for the godaddy ssl certificate
2. goto my cpanel and generate a cert code that I had to paste to godaddy.
3. get an email from them for approval
4. Have them send me an email with 2 CRT files in them.....

Installing Email Certificate On Windows Mobile 6
I have a Windows Mobile 6 (Blackjack II) phone that I am connecting to my cpanel VPS via Pop3.

I have a number of pop3 accounts setup to check for email every 30 minutes. However, every couple days the phone stops downloading mail and if I do a manual send and receive I get a "The Server Certificate is not valid. Continue Anyway?" with a yes/no. If I click yes, the email downloads and then the automated emails will work for several days and then the process is repeated.

Does anyone know how to either disable this check on the phone (no luck finding that yet), or to install the certificate from the cpanel mail server to the phone?

Which SSL Certificate
I want to use SSL on my website.

I don't really get the differences (and it seems all companies offering SSL offer different types of certificates.. don't even know where they overlap)

Can someone recommend where I could get an SSL certificate and why I should choose between a $15/year one and $100+/year?

New SSL Certificate
I am running a site that currently has a Geotrust SSL cert installed (Plesk 7.5.3). That certificate is about to expire and I am going with one from a new vendor. My question is, do I need to generate a new CSR before requesting the new certificate or do I use the CSR from the current one and just upload the new certificate file (overwriting the current one) when I get it?

Ssl Certificate, Sub-domain
i just got this ssl certificate but i have some doubts how exactly should i set up the whole magic. i created the which suppose to be the sub-domain for the login page which means when user decide to sign up/login to immediately transfer to the ssl state(sample: see and then their https login page). so, far the home page which is it doesn't need to be covered by the ssl. so, i was just wondering how do i play the game? i know it's kinda tricky and the key is somewhere in the sub-domain name(cP set up), .htaccess and/or index.php files but not very clear to me.

Suggestions For SSL Certificate?
My online store is almost ready to publish and Im trying to work my head around this SSL thing.

So through reading on here Ive determined that only the cart or PII areas need to be secured, not the entire site.

My host provided a free SSL cert but I discovered that it is a domain verification SSL only and there is no "clickable seal" or business verification. Verification is important however Im not sure I need an EV cert (nor that I can afford it).

Im looking for business verification, clickable seal, 128/256, 2048bit, free reissue.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a SSL cert and what I might need? There was someone in the ads forum offering a GlobalSign OrganizationalSSL cert for $100yr. Does this seem like a good deal? There isnt a lot of feedback about GlobalSign on the net.

How To Choose SSL Certificate
I am now in process of choosing ssl certificate from certificate authority for one of the sites I administer and I got confused.

I visited numerous sites offering certs and I concluded:

- I don't need EV certificate

- 128 bit certificates can vary in price at different providers from $25 to $100 and higher

- some sites are offering 128 bit at lower price and 256 or 515 bit certs at higher prices

I don't understand why are some certs so expensive? Doesn't 128 bit cert form any provider at any price provide the same level of security?

I thought 128 bit encryption is unbreakable. Why do someone buys 256 or 512 bit cert at higher price?

Some of those more expensive certs are offering "higher level of security", warranties... Is that only marketing or there is some real value behind additional features?

SSL Certificate And Round Robin
We have a few IIS servers that will be acting as front end for our users to split off the load.
Currently, we have one IIS with 1 SSL. we are going to do round robining for the FQDN to span a few IIS servers. I just wanted to make sure we would not run into any issues with the certificate. I was thinking of installing it on one server after generating the CSR and then once the root trusted is in place, export it and import it in all the other servers. Do you think this would be an issue at all? is there a better way?

additionally, the certificate is about to expire, I need a certificate with $1mil insurance, what do you think is the best deal (trusted source) going around? should I do the ones with 256bit too or have you seen any conflicts, do they auto negotiate if the client can only support 128bit?

Trying To Set Up A SSL Certificate On My Dedicated Server
getting my SSL certificate loaded properly onto my dedicated server.

The initial problem was with when I tried to log in via WHM or cPanel, I got this notice displayed on the page:

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.
Click here to close this webpage.
Continue to this website (not recommended).”

I figured that to get rid of the notice displayed, then I would need a SSL certificate, so I bought one from Trustwave.
Everything went okay with the initial download and things were running smooth until I got to installing the intermediate certificate but I just can't find
where the installation instructions say to place the certificate.

Downloading the certificates isn't the problem. It is the instructions (see below) which were copied from Trustwave’s own “sslcertificates/install” link which tell me what to do, all okay, just I can't find where to install the intermediate certificate in WHM!

Instructions given by Trustwave are -
"Save the xroot.crt file to a directory on your server, and be sure to note
the directory path. Generally, you can find Apache's configuration file in
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf, but you may need to search for it. Sometimes the SSL configurations are in a file called ssl.conf.

Open the configuration file in a text editor and search for the virtual
host. You can search by your server's address or IP address. Once you find the virtual host which matches your host, look for two lines that start with SSLCertificateFile and SSLCertificateKeyFile. Add (or adjust) a line right below those two that shouldread: SSLCACertificateFile /path/xroot.crt
Save and close the configuration file."

I don't know where to find places such as "Apache's configuration file in
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf" and "ssl.conf" - in WHM/cPanel does anybody know where these places are? And I have just noticed that I'm back to getting the "untrusted website stuff" displayed when I try to log onto either cpanel or WHM in my server.

Increasing The Expiration Time For SSL Certificate For Exim

openssl rsa -in /etc/exim.key.tmp -out /etc/exim.key
rm -f /etc/exim.key.tmp
service exim restart
The problem is the certificate expires after one month. I have already edited my /usr/share/ssl/openssl.cnf with the following lines in order to increase this expiration time to one year and it worked for the SSL certificate issued for Apache, but it has no effect on the Exim certificate.

default_days = 365 # how long to certify for
default_crl_days= 365 # how long before next CRL

Should I edit another file or set it on another place? Does anyone know?

GoDaddy Review (SSL Certs)
While I can’t really comment on the quality of SSL cert that GoDaddy provides, I can attest to the fact that GoDaddy does provide cheap, easy to install, SSL certs. All the SSL certs that I have are provided by GoDaddy and I do plan to continue doing so unless I find out that their SSL certs aren’t comparable to other SSL certs with the same protection e.g. 128 bit encryption.

The bottom line is, if you want a cheap, fairly simple SSL choice, then you may find GoDaddy to be a solid choice.

SSL Email And SMTP Error - WHM/cPanel - Retail Host Certificate
We have a few users that use SSL email and we decided to purchase a cheap single-root SSL cert over at namecheap for the host name so that it would end the "self-signed cert" whining.

We got the cert installed and it works great for WHM/cPanel and also works for SSL over IMAP and POP3, but the very first email anyone sends (SMTP) per day gives this warning (Outlook Express):

The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified.
A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

It seems obvious that the cert used by the SMTP system is not the new one we installed.

We used WHM's SSL/TLS -> Change Server Certificates link to install the cert.

We then made sure that:

...all contained the current cert or key as appropriate.

Just for grins, we even made sure:
...had the correct pair.

We restarted all the mail services and even restarted the whole server. (I know...Windows reaction...bad tech.)

Does anyone know of a stealth location where the SSL cert for SMTP should be updated?

WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-R139
CentOS 3.8 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

Installing SSL Certs
I am trying to install my SSL certifcate from godaddy onto my godaddy dedicated server.

I already called them, and followed their instructions on re-keying and I think I did it all correctly.

After the process, four files were generated:

I noticed that the directory for my website contained a 'public_html' folder and a 'certs' folder. So, naturally, I moved them all to the 'certs' folder.

The instructions then said to edit ssl.conf, which I found in /etc/httpd/conf.d/
They said to ADD these 3 vague directives:
SSLCertificateFile /pathtoyour/certificate/file
SSLCertificateKeyFile /pathtoyour/key/file
SSLCertficateChainFile /pathto/gd_intermediate_bundle/file

My ssl.conf already contained similar directives, but they pointed to what looked like server defaults. Since the instructions said to add the directives, I simply added them underneath what was already there. Not exactly sure which file is which, I guessed, here is what I added:

SSLCertificateFile /home/myusername/certs/
SSLCertificateKeyFile /home/myusername/certs/mydomain.key
SSLCertficateChainFile /home/myusername/certs/gd_intermediate_bundle.crt

Then, the instructions said to restart Apache.

Here is where my trouble is. Apache won't restart! (This is Apache 2 by the way.)

I went to the ssl.conf file and commented out my 3 directives.
Apache successfully restarted! So, I tried adding my 3 directives back in and this time commenting out the two default directives that looked similar.
The lines were:
SSLCertificateFile /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key

I tried again, and Apache again failed to start!

I tried contacting godaddy, they escalated the issue, and I saw them poking around my server this morning. They left my Apache turned off when they logged out. So I decided it was time to put my website back up (I need this thing running, you know?) and ask for help so I can do this myself.

What did I do that is causing Apache to not start up?
