I have dedicated server at GoDaddy and I am hosting very important web service for our company. We have only one HDD on server and no FTP backup. What is the best method to protect data and whole server from HDD crash? Is it enough to add second HDD?
There are several methods of offering network path redundancy. The basic decision for me has come down to:
Do it at Layer 2 Do it at Layer 3
At the moment we have layer 2 redundancy to each server. 2NICs on the server up with one having the IPs for apache/mysql/etc. each nic going into a seperate switch and the switches connected together, with 2 routers running VRRP to handle the gateway. Everything is Vlaned.
So basicaly the switch redundancy is done by spanning tree and the IP redundancy is done with a process on the router/server to move the IP to the other router/server NIC if there is an issue.
I am thinking about going with 2 fully seperate networks. in differant subnets. where each router would have a gateway. the routers would talk to each other and they would speak OSPF or ISIS with the servers. This way I would move hosting onto loopback IPs on the servers and those loopback IPs would be advertised to the both routers through seperate networks. Again everything would be Vlanned.
This has the advantage of getting rid of spanning tree which has caused issues from time to time. It would keep redundancy up and we could standardize on the routing daemon ran on the servers allowing all of the various OSs we run to have the same basic config for network redundancy. Where now each OS tends to have its own solution. This would make life easier from a config and troubleshooting point of view.
After some experimenting with Linux VPS setups, I'm eager to explore windows VPS software.
Two questions I guess, first off, what is the cheapest method of offering multiple VPS accounts on a windows server? Are there any free or build in Microsoft methods?
Second, what is the easiest way of doing so? (Simple setup, as hands off as possible)
I realize the cheapest may not be the easiest and vice versa. I'm downloading Parrallels Virtuozzo trial right now, but would like to learn what else is out there.
I'm currently on a Linode VPS and have a couple of websites that I want to migrate to a dedicated box. I wonder what would be the easiest way to do this: website files/directories, mysql databases, etc.
Can I run 'scp' to scoop everything out to the new server?
By the way, I don't have any control panel installed on the server.
After researched and looked around for info, i decide to go with DA but i still have a problem with my current server that if I'd like to migrate all my email accounts from OS X server to FreeBSD and reload the OS X server for that box to use for other purpose. I wonder if it is possible to migrate all email accounts from Mac OS X server to FreeBSD ?
For FreeBSD box, I am going to use DirectAdmin for web control panel since that box is AMD based. I would appreciate a lot for your help or hint otherwise thanks for reading.
I have a collocated server which I'd like to do some upgrades to. I'm having it shipped back to me so that I can do the upgrades myself. However, since I use this as my primary email server, I need help setting something up so I have no email downtime.
I have a cheap shared hosting account with DreamHost so one idea I have is to point the domain to their servers and handle things through there for a bit. This seems like the "brute force" way to do it though since I have to wait for DNS propagation and what not. Another idea was to use a service like DynDNS' MailHop BackupMX which does storage and forwarding. However, this service is kind of expensive ($30) considering I'm only going to use it a week or so.
I have migrate Hosting from Cpanel to Plesk, but mailbox not create successful.
mbox_quota 262144000 -forwarding false -ignore-nonexistent-options failed with return code 1. Stderr is
Unable to set the mailbox size limit for the domain: The size of this mailbox must not exceed the limit on amount of disk space allocated for mailboxes in this domain.
Default mailbox of Cpanel is 250MB.
How to change default mailbox size to 250MB to change mail from Cpanel to Plesk.
I've been a layeredtech customer since early 2005, and until this last insane price-hike fiasco, I've never had a major complaint. But now it keeps getting worse.
I wound up keeping this particular server around after the price hike (for several reasons, one of which was misinformation from a LT sales person regarding the prepay option) and several days ago received an email stating that my server would have to be moved, and that due to the chassis type of my old server, they could not move my server, I would need to migrate to a new server.
The email was less than forthcoming with details, so I tried to phone the person who sent me the email. The call went straight to his voicemail, where I left a couple messages asking him to return my calls, which he never did.
Finally I called their Sales department to figure out what was going on, and finally spoke with a nice & friendly guy (in a different department), who he stated that he felt like he was in the middle, and he just wanted to help us (the affected customers) out. Okay, I figure I can handle moving all my custom software to a new server figuring that they would find some comparable piece of hardware to move me to at the same cost.
No.
I was told I would have to pay around 10% more per month for a server with only a slightly faster CPU, only 1GB of ram and only 1 hard-drive (current server has 1.5GB of ram & 2 hard-drives mirrored)
Oh, and I have to have everything moved by the 18th of October. And I'll have to pay for 2 servers while I move. Or, I might be able to have the server moved to a different space at Savvis, but that would likely only be a short-term solution, and this situation would come up again.
I find this really appalling--they really must hate their customers who helped them through the early years!
im trying to migrate my plesk 11 linux server (i installed the PPA Moving Tools) but when im running the assimilate command: ppa-assimilate generate-migration-list config.ini...im getting this error:
I get the following message if i try to migrate a domain from a Windows Plesk (9.5.5) to PPA:

But this should have been fixed in MU#4 as mentioned in [URL] ....:

How can i migrate best multiple confixx server to a PPA environment?
I have read migration confixx to ppa is not directly supported, is that right? Can i first migrate all confixx server to one plesk server and migrate in a next step all to ppa or should i migrate step by step each confixx server to a plesk server and after this migrate to ppa?
Who can handle plesk/PPA the multipe username? (server1 with user: web1 | server2 with user: web1) ?
We recently started migrating some cPanel accounts to Plesk. Besides the obvious that it doesn't create customer accounts it contains a pretty frustrating bug:
When an mail forward in cPanel has multiple addresses, only one the first mail forward address is migrated to Plesk.
so, E.g. on cPanel: test@example.com is forwarded to john.doe@something.com, jane.doe@else.com, foo@bar.com
after migration to Plesk: test@example.com is forwarded to john.doe@something.com only. The other addresses are not migrated.
When I try to migrate from old server to new server, I get this error:
Warning: Deployer has been terminated by exception: Line 471 error: Element 'certificates': This element is not expected. Expected is one of ( sb-config, backup-settings, server-preferences, spamassassin, grey-listing, virusfilter, kav-settings, coldfusion, gapps-services, events ).
I am doing migration of plesk 11 from one server to another server on both server version is same but after migration I cant find any service plan which is there on old server.how can i copy / migrate service plan from one serer to another server
