They are all listed as 10mbit unmetered and they show the following for their providers:
Qwest, MCI/Verizon, Savvis and BTN
Does it seem about right? I'm new to hosting and just wanted to make sure that it is decent pricing.
We are going to buy 2 servers. One will be a Apache webserver (PHP, ZendPlatform) and other will run MySQL.
which one is better Dual Xeon or Dual Opteron? Below are the available options.

Dual Xeon E5335 Quad Core (Clovertown)
Dual Xeon E5420 Quad Core (Harpertown)

I want to colo dual xeon 3ghz/ 2 x 250 sata drive and Dual core 3.0 / 2 x250 Sata drive.
How much amp these server need? One colo company said 4amp for dual and 2 for dual core. Do I need 6amp for 2 servers? Rack comes with 15amp so I need half rack?
Which one you suggest for running database server and VPS's?
Dual Xeon3ghz 1mb dual core vs Quadcore 6600 2.4ghzx4 core 8mb.
different opinions on dual cpus and dual core.
But say: I have 2 servers, one with a dual CPU and another one with a single CPU but dual core. The CPUs have all the same specification (bus speed, cache, frequency, etc). Which one would perform better for web hosting (php, mysql)?
I am going to buy a new server and I am unsure of which route to take.
Basically the cost is identical for a Dell server with:
1 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.4Ghz
OR
2 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.0Ghz
What is the felling? Does the 4 cores out weight the extra 400 mhz per processor, but only having 2 cores?
The server will be running:
Windows 2003 Standard x32
Plesk 8.2
IIS 6.0 [ Application Pools Setup ]
MySQL
Microsft SQL Express 2005 [ONLY CAN USE 1 CPU/CORE]
MailEnable
Can my applications even handle/utilize four cores?
Which one is better: Dual Xeon 2.8GHz/HT vs Dual Core Xeon 2.4GHz (3060) for shared hosting with database intensive? Both with 4GB RAM.
View 3 Replies View Relatedin my experience, when I take a server with Dual PSU and plug in just one of the PSU to a PDU, the PDU reads 2 amps. When I plug in the second PSU, it still reads 2 amps, not much change. May be it was originally 1.6 and the additional PSU just added 0.4amps.
Now, if I am planning to plug in the two PSUs into two different PDUs, what should I see reading on both of the PDUs? 2 amps and 0 amps? 1 amp each? or something else?
How do you guys normally balance the power? cause I bet if I unplug one of the PSUs the other PDU where the second PSU is connected will read 2 amps. So its seems to be happening at some what random, or am I missing something here?
I am currently in process of buying a new server for my site (Wordpress installation, 20-30k unique visitors daily)
1x Intel Quad Core Xeon X3210 / 8MB CPU
2GB DDR2 RAM
or
1x Intel Dual-Core E2160 CPU
4GB DDR2 RAM
It is 10$ more for version with dual core and more RAM but that money is not problem.
I am more interested what is better for mostly database/php kind of site (not expert but i hope you guys knows what kind need Wordpress request).
More powerful CPU or more RAM?
i have a domain with me..and the site is live..some times the HELM panel hosted site never responds..so i have a hosting panel of c panel i have uploaded the same site in c panel as i cannot change the dns frequently so can i put all the primary and secondary for HELM and 3 and 4 for c panel... do my site and mail service will work>>??

Would like at least 6 RAM slots and need a good chassis to go with it. preferably supermicro. can anyone recommend something that goes well with each other... only newegg parts please!
i was looking at the X7DCA-L but can't find a good chassis for it.
Only want 1U
Does anyone know of a fairly low cost dual power supply Ethernet switch. Nothing fancy is needed, just a simple 12-24 port switch that has redundant power features.
Our router and four little servers all have dual power supplies. Two big UPS units in a redundant setup would work great for us. The only weak link in the setup is the switch.
We have 2 servers with old Dual Opteron 285's and would like preform an upgrade. I'm not sure where to start, these servers are for webhosting and load is pretty much around 3~5 during peak times.
We have the following choices:
Single Q9550 (Will it preform better than my current CPUs? Are they suitable for server use?)
Dual E5405's (Slowest Harpertown, is it worth it?)
Just recently while browsing Newegg and Ebay, I realized I could build a great server consisting of Dual Opteron 270's to 280's with Dual HDD's, Great Asus 1U Barebones Setup , 4GB of Ram for about $650 if I went with used CPU's
Now I don't know about you, but that sounds like quite the bang for the buck. Also considering I have an aggregate bandwidth commitment, and only pay $50 per server I add to my rack, it really isn't a huge downside to say build three of these rather then one Harpertown setup.
Well at least this is my opinion. I was curious to see what others opinions are. I figure with the up and coming cloud technology, and the high prices of new technology, this would be a good investment, but do you think it is worth it to build outdated hardware? Would I be better off just building higher spec servers? How do these servers stack up to some of the newer technology? Are they still considered poewrful?
Anyways just thought I would get some opinions before I went and bought a bunch of outdated hardware
I am looking at some options for a server and have a dual processor question.
I am looking at a server with two Dempsey 5050 processors.
My question is this.
Is it possible to put two Dempsey 5050 processors in a server and turn one of them off so it can not be used?
I know some are going to say why do i want to do this and I might as well explain it now to get it out of the way. My colo will not let me keep space parts on hand and I have a client that may want to single Dempsey 5050 processor in his server and I would like to keep one Dempsey 5050 on hand as a spare for my server and other servers that use the Dempsey 5050 processor. I figured if put one on a board that supports two Dempsey 5050's and turn it off it would be like keeping a spare on hand.
This is probably the wrong location for this thread but I am unsure which section it is best located at.
I have 2 hard drives - 1 has XP pro installed (master drive) on it and the other is blank and set to slave. On the blank one i intedn to install Red Hat linux.

AMD Dual Core X2 4000+ vs Pentium IV 3.0
which processor better?
where is currently the "best" places to rent a dual core atom with about 2gb of ram, storage requirements are very low sub 50gb.
I am interested in getting two of these in total in different dcs (US/EU only).
Also something which I feel would be interesting is getting one up with a SSD. Has any one come across any where offering this?
There seems to be alot of variation on prices directly in the atom niche, and then we you compare it to the same companies offering on their bigger brothers (quad core xyz) it makes things much more confusing.
I have no interest in cheaper 5 year old hardware which might compare speed wise
how would systems compare if they were based ont he followinf chips:
Intel core i7 920
VS
Dual Xeon 5405
my Budget is only 200$ Do you think i can get this server with this Budget?
Dual CPU 5504 Nehalem Xeon setup
New Nehalem architecture, 2x quad core 2ghz cpus (8 total cores at 2ghz)
16gb DDR3
4x 73gb 15k rpm sas (no need raid )
1TB (over 1GB PORT)
Windows 2008 Data-center
I ask webnx if they can provide me this but NO reply and i am waiting to see what is they are reply
what you think? is that too low?

I understand that the woodcrest is a better processor. Just want people's opinions if it justifies the price.
Here are the configurations we are looking at:
Dual Xeon 3.2 SCSI
2GB of RAM
2 x 73GB SCSI Disk
Cpanel

$222
or
Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core
4GB of RAM
2 x 146GB, 10K RPM SCSI
cpanel
-----------------------------
$385.00
We host approx 100 sites on a server. 60% are static sites and 40% are ecommerce or sites with a database. Just curious if the performance increase will justify the price on the woodcrest vs the xeon.
Also is $385 a good deal for this setup?
I have a dual processor server and today I was monitoring CPU usage using the ‘top’ command
There was a mysql process I was tweaking around with where the CPU % kept jumping over 100%.. It went up to 155%, 175%, 180% on numerous occasions.
My question is on a dual processor machine does ‘top’ measure CPU usage between 0% and 200% or does the usages I saw earlier mean my server was getting REALLY overloaded?
I've four servers of them working as webserver and MySQL slave. and another one is MySQL Master server.
website seem to very sow when open any link which right to MySQL Master server. so i need to do Dua master with 2 slaves servers. any one can recommend me.

How would processor performace compare assuming the harddrives were the same and the amount of ram was the same? For example, how would a system with older dual xeon 2.4 or 2.8 cpus compare to Intel Core2 Duo E4300 socket 775, 2x 1.8Ghz/1M L2 system?
I am guessing that the Intel Core2 Duo would win, but by how much? I am sure this is hard to compare since ram speeds are different as well, but hopefully someone can make an estimate.

I'm considering two hardware options for a server.
2 x AMD Opteron 265 (1.8 GHz clock speed x 4)
2 GB ram, 2 x 160 GB RAID 1, Windows 2008
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6 GHz clock speed x 2)
2 GB ram, 2 x 160 GB RAID 1, Windows 2008
Which hardware should be better to run a Mail server, IIS, MySQL and a few other http based services?
The X2 5000+ is around $8 more than the Dual Opteron 265 per month.
