Who Is Currently Using Ubhosting.net

Jan 4, 2008

ubhosting.net has a pretty enticing offer in the offer forum and, while I have searched the forums for more information about the company or reviews, I haven't found very many.

I've had to resort to reading through many posts and looking for members comments. It seems that the people who have gone with them seem, for the most part ok, although, aside from some people saying they'd buy in, I haven't found much follow up on their experiences. I've found some established member comments here consistently saying that they're a good company run by a good person though.

However, from other people's experiences, it sounds like they're having problems and I'm not confident of the longevity of the company.

I'm especially concerned as their purchase links on their website no longer work (they worked a couple of days ago) and the domain that hosts the purchasing part of the their website (ubhclient.com) says "Account Suspended".

I found a previous post saying that their 1-800 support lines were down, and it was ultimately blamed on an Asterisk box being down. I've now noticed that they don't list an 800 number on their contact page anymore. We use 800 numbers at work for a monthly fee, and the only reason I can think of that they no longer have an 800 number is if they couldn't get that Asterisk box back up, or they had to cut costs.

I've also read some posts regarding slow response times for support tickets. Having worked support myself, I know that usually means either a lack of staff or too much work for existing staff (which I guess can essentially mean the same thing).

Couple all that with what sounds like some desperation to get people to pre-pay for a year up front, and it sounds like they're having some financial trouble.

Does anyone here use them and what do you use them for? Are you happy with them and the service? Are they worth going with?

Am currently trying to find a dedicated provider and while I'm aware that there are a lot of choices out there (and all you have to do is look), I'm going to assume that it's just as easy to find a bad company.

Review: UBHosting

Jun 16, 2008

My group had been dissatisfied with the service of UBHosting.ca. There are two main sources for this dissatisfaction: site downtime and an unimplemented feature claimed to be offered.

Our website had been going offline at an unacceptable frequency. Within the first few weeks of signing up with UBHosting, the site had gone down many times for a number of hours each time. This was during a time when we were promoting our website. This was embarrassing. Since those first few weeks, we had noticed a dozen more times the site had gone down for hours at a time. This was unacceptable service.

We requested that Tomcat be installed. UBHosting said that they would install it and let us know when it would be installed (Jan 3rd, 2008). On Jan 16th, UBHosting said that they would get it done. On Jan 27th, 2008 they said that they were "in the process of configuring it and will have it up very shortly". As of March 16th, it still hadn't been done.

We never heard back from them after the Jan27th request. We even requested a refund, but had no response.

We switched to a new hosting provider and haven't had a problem with the new provider.

UBHosting Awesome VPS Provider!

Aug 7, 2008

I've had a server up and on-line with them for over 7 days.

The network is rock solid, no lost packets, consistent speed.

I can't believe the value and deal I got with them.

I haven't used the server for anything yet but it is perfect and hard to beat.

I've easily been able to get 11 MB/sec from a lot of places in the US even though the datacenter is in Ontario.

I couldn't be happier and I'm glad I haven't gone with a large company that doesn't care about their customers (which is how mosts hosts are or become these days).
