What Is The Best Way To Load Balance A Vbulletin Forum?
Aug 20, 2008What is the best way to load balance a vbulletin forum?
View 3 RepliesWhat is the best way to load balance a vbulletin forum?
View 3 RepliesI recently started hosting a large vBulletin forum (14,014 registered users... 30-60 online at a time) on one of my dedicated servers. When there's a lot of activity on the forums, things start getting really slow. There will be like 50 php-cgi processes running. Some users get blank pages, others get this message:
Notice: Undefined variable: errfile in [path]/forums/includes/functions_log_error.php on line 163
Specs of the server are:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
160GB SATA HDD
2GB DDR2 RAM
FreeBSD 6.2 (Hosted at AwkNet)
Could there be any Apache modifications I can make to increase performance, or anything else I could try?
i want to build three servers A,B,C,
and put websites on them.
i hope B and C can rsync the data from A,
when server A is unreachable,
all the connection will be pushed to server B,
if A and B are all unreachable,
all the connection will be pushed to server C.
when A or B be back,
i hope they could rsync with server C to get the same data,
and then all the connection will be pushed to server A,
I have a forum that is growing fast ( using 1 webserver and 1 mysql server now), and i am planing to add one more web server to load balance.
What options do i have?
Which one is best for Forum vbulletin load balance?
We have two dedicated server on that flash online arcade games website has hosted. Due to overload, server gets down server & hangs. So that we like to share the server load with two server.
Please find below the details our server configuration.
Processor : Intel 2.13 GHz Xeon
Hard Disk : 250GB ATA:
Control Panel : Cpanel (Installed on both server)
Apache Version : Apache/2.0.63
PHP Version : 5.2.4
MySQL : 4.1.22
I have been updating the PHP files with RSYNC command for every 15 min. MySQL Database we have put in different server (So I think no need to update).
how to share the server load with enabling the Load balance Server.
My site has outgrown my current host and I'm strongly leaning towards a vps. I am relatively inexperienced with web hosting as for the last 18 months I've had very few issues with my current host (Stream101.com). They are currently saying my site is very memory and processor intensive which is why I'm going to have to leave them soon(I can't pay the dedicated server prices that would give my site the stability I desire).
About my site:
My site has 18,000+ users, its about 18 months old. 5,632 threads, 78,967 posts. It used about 150gig of bandwidth last month. The site is growing quickly (IMO). The site makes some money, but not enough to justify spending what it would cost for a dedicated server.
I'm happy to provide any other information, but what I am looking for is suggestions on:
1) Is a VPS the right choice for my site in your opinion.
2) What hosting company's would you suggest I look into.
3) How much ram/processor speed should I be looking for
4) any other information you feel I should know about this.
I have one dedicated server that hosts a PHP/MySQL highly dynamic site. In peak periods my site is starting to get high load (still very manageable but enough to warrant thinking about the future). My site is mostly images - photo gallery type stuff.
I've thought about using Amazon WS to host images from my site but it works out too expensive as do other similar Content Delivery options.
From what I can tell, when the load is high, mysql CPU usage isn't too bad, it hovers around 20% and peaks to 60% every 20 seconds or so, so my assumption is that the load is partly from apache (I see lots of apache processes in peak periods).
I am considering just get a cheap VPS hosted elsewhere that will be used as a static image/file server to release stress from my main server- How much stress would this help release?- Any other suggestions on solutions?
- I would have to do quite a bit of work to my application to ensure images are posted to this server and not my main server which seems a pain (or cron these tasks).
I am completely new to apache and I had the load balancer set up for a single domain that was working perfectly fine, but when it came to multiple domains i couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what to do.
There is example.com sub.example.com and otherexample.com
I had a single node set up for this but I want to experiment with the balancer. I have scratched Google and I only found broken info which couldn't explain much to me. Here are my domains
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "/var/www/domain.com"
ServerName domain.com
</VirtualHost>
[Code] ....
Any example configuration of the default file.
I want to run a SMALL vbulletin forum with a maximum of 500-1000 people.
Is hostingpuppy the right host service for me? they are cheap plus they have good uptime and alot of people love them.
that my vbulletin forum redirect to another site
i upgrade to last version but i still have the same error
i have root access and want to know how i can restrict direct to another server
Hello,
Lunarpages and jerked me around enough times that I'm considering other options. I won't go into too many details, but they recently moved me to a new server that was configured completely different and my forum ended up being down for 4 days. During that time, their support was non-existent. Now, they keep sending me emails that I'm exceeding my alloted CPU usage. They want me to upgrade.
Admittedly, I am using their lower end hosting, which I think I paid $100 for the year or something.
After the way I've been treated, I can't imagine spending another dime at Lunarpages. So I'm looking for new hosting options. My forum is growing, but it certainly isn't a large forum. I have about 30-40 new members join each day and I usually have about 1,000 active members. I'm running vbseo and a few mods, but my unique hits per day is probably around 2,000 uniques per day for the forum give or take. My forum does use quite a bit of bandwidth as people upload songs they have recorded and submit them for review frequently.
I've considered the notion of having a server built for me and paying $100 per month for colocation and being done with it, but I'd prefer to avoid this cost, if possible.
Any suggestions?
I am the owner of the vbulletin forum. The forum is young but it is growing rapidly. It has 11000 posts, 800 members and about 30 users online. I use many mods which are server intensive.
I was on a semi-dedicated hosting (Westnic), which I shared with my friend to reduce the costs. Now I feel I should move on, because this package is becoming too small for both of us.
I wanted to upgrade my hosting package to a bigger one, but now when I have read so many horrible stories about this host, I really don't want to stay with Westnic.
So I am looking for a reliable host for my forum.
I am still now sure whether I need a semi-dedicated, VPS or a dedicated server. Also, I am not sure how much dedicated memory a forum like mine would need. Also, I am not sure about the location of the server - does it really matter?
I am about to purchase a vbulletin license in a few days and start a site. I will start the forums first and get the talking going and build the main site afterwards. Of course the site will suck at first as far as visitors. But what is a good hosting plan to support me for a good little while? I project we'll get up to 150 active users at a time within the first 6 or 7 months with about 50 browsing the main site....(nothing wrong with wishful thinking )
So, what hosting plan is best to hold me for a while? Not which company, but what specs of the plan are best to hold 100 active users at a time? I dont want to continue to upgrade my hosting plan alot. I'd rather just buy a nice shared hosting plan now to hold me for at least a year or so....until I have to upgrade.
For those who have dedicated servers, at one point is it time to upgrade to a dedicated server?
I'm promting a new Joomla! website and a new vBulletin forum. The website serves to news articles, some statistics (related to a football club) and also a small photo and video gallery. The forum would have an average of 40-50 online users.
I'm considering to choose the baby package offered by Host Gator. Would that be a good choice?
I have formated my linux Centos 4 server with PHP 4.4 and install Centos 5 with PHP 5.1 ( will upgrade to 5.2 soon ).
I succeed to restore all of my web sites and forums except one which has 110MB sql file, VBulletin 3.6.8.
I think the problem is related on my hack's and modifications I have done before...
Now I decided to install a new and fresh forum with version of 3.6.8 to be the same with ex one ( I will upgrade it after transferring ( migrating ) every threads, posts and members to new forum to 3.8.4)
But the problem is: when I restore the whole sql to new forum I had come across many problems.
THE QUESTION IS:
how can I transfer just "threads", "posts" and "members" to a new and fresh vBulletin forum ?
please note that my forum is not working now and I just have a "whole-website-backup.SQL" file and also back up of whole database folder in the linux ( it contains .frm , .MYD , .MYI files like: mst_post.frm , mst_post.MYD , mst_post.MYI and others...)
I have tried to copy these .frm .MYD and .MYI files on the new database folder but it was not worked!
I think I must restore by the help of .SQL file but I dont know how! when I recover whole the .SQL file forum does not work good and had some problem ( I can't log in to admin panel for example, and my VBSeo configurations gone and can't be repaire...
Please show me how can I transfer just my Posts and members to a NEW installed VBulletin forum with same or different "database name" and "database username".
I've problem with my system (Dell vostro200) I've Mcafee security center and it will block some scripts running in the system during the browsing. I can't use any of vBulletin forums ( registration and posting ) I can't do even Mcafee online registratation also. I'm not an expert in os configurations.
View 0 Replies View RelatedDon't know if it is some kind of attack or this is normal but the Server load goes reaching 20 in most of the times and may be greater!
this is the mysql_process list
jarabhar_JUHyyuh is opening alot of connections in the same time and this is not the normal behavior ....
I just added a database server in private network and moved the database for Vbulletin Forum to this server.
But some how, the Forum is loading extremely slow compare to before ( when it was on the localhost). Also, Compare to another website on server (using local database) it is much slower.
One thing good is the load is lower
2 servers are connected via 10mbs private link, both servers are at Softlayer.
webserver: Opteron 170, 2GB RAM, 73GB SCSI 15K
database: Quad Xeon 3220, 2GB RAM, 73GB SCSI 15K.
I run Lighttpd and can push out 50mb/s and 500 connections with load .05 .10 .12.
My problem is not server load but bandwidth load.
Is there a way to balance bandwidth in that if 1 server is getting 40mb/s to push it to another server so that both servers can be doing 20mb/s each?
i run a vbuletin forum, right now i am on a virtual dedicated
All my ips are stored on the same root ip, i am moving one of my forums from the default IP to a separate IP. I populated the DNS and my webite shows up properly on the new IP, but my forum is comming up as a database error.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem? Or tools I can run? Or is it merely not connecting to the database yet, because of some name server or other issue?
I installed Team plus this vbulletin mod integrated into my vbulletin database
[url]
I'm getting the below error when attempting to connect to my TS:
[17:46:38] No reply from server
Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it
However, the server is running on PID 2967
In CSF firewall, I have these enabled
TCP_IN = 8767,51234,14534
TCP_OUT = 8767,51234,14534
I tried the main server IP and even the IP that the domain is hosted on.
For http port, I also tried 80 default. I have no idea what goes in "server id" anyway.
I am on a VPS with Centos 4 OS and Cpanel/WHM.
I am going to soon be upgrading to the latest version of vBulletin (3.7.0). They are recommending PHP 5.25 with APC installed. I am talled that Zend (which I have installed and eaccelerator) is not compatible with APC.
The vBulletin people say that APC will perform better than Zend, and that zend should be disabled and APC installed and enabled.
A couple questions.
1. I'm curious what people's opinions are on here about APC vs. Zend (eaccellerator) or possibly xcache.
2. I have once been told that APC and xcache aren't compatible with Cpanel/WHM. Is this correct?
3. Assuming 2 isn't correct, if I decide to move to APC, what do I need to do to disable/uninstall Zend/Eaccellerator and install/setup APC?
whenever someone tries to upload a .jpg image on vBulletin that uses imagemagick it says invalid format or whatever however when I test via shh.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have the max vars and all that set right to conform to vbulletin, Only problem is now I keep getting this in /var/log/messages
suhosin[8569]: ALERT - script tried to increase memory_limit to 4294967295 bytes which is above the allowed value (attacker '*******', file '/home/user/public_html/includes/class_xml.php', line 35)
The line its pertaining to is @ini_set('memory_limit', -1);
I'm pretty sure its not blocking anything, least nothing I see but it does this everytime someone accesses certain pages on a forum.
My memory_limit for php is 60 mb, I checked out different ways of configuring it, but the only thing I think would stop the alerts is setting the suhosin memory limit to 4 gb, as it says the script is calling for that. But I suppose if there was a crappy or malicious php script they would easily be able to ini-set and suck all the memory.
So basically what i want to do is just disable this alert as its filling the messages up. Has anyone dealt with this before?
Anyone here have problem with Mod_Security and VBulletin ? Currently running Apache 1.3.x and Vbulletin 3.6.8 patch 2 and want to install Mod_Security on Apache so I want to know if there any conflict with Mod_Security and Vbulletin.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running about 20 servers with default exim configuration that cpanel
writes on the servers.
One of the servers get a very high load when some of the customers send
mails to
His clients through the VBulletin script.
These mails doesn't exceed 20 thousand mail , and when he sends load goes
very high,
However other servers sends maybe 40 thousand mails without a big problem ,
and with same configuration and specification.
What can I do , or where can I work around to decrease the exim consumption
of the load like that.
I' $ve tried queue_only_load=6 but no any benefit :-(
1) From time to time my vbulleting message board loads slow, and at that time the server isn't even at a high load this happen at loads 0.9 nothing much really but always below 4.
2) Not only does it load slow but it often return the server cannot be found error, this minute it works fine and the next minute it doesn't, all i can see from the error log for my domain is
3) php warning: Zend Optimizer for PHP 4.3.x cannot be found (expected at '/usr/local/Zend/lib/Optimizer-2.1.0/php-4.3.x/Zendoptimizer.so') - try reinstalling the zend optimizer in Unknown on line 0, referer [url]
4) Does vbulletin relies on zend at all to be fully functional?
5) will zend actualy help at all?
Yes there are other sites on the box and they seem to work fine.

A quick question for those running Vbulletin in Windows. I am running on a shared Windows 2003 server the Open Basedir is not enabled and the Safe Mode is off as per default setting. I can't change it as it is a shared hosting. The upload function is having problem due to the Open Basedir restrictions. Anyway to overcome that? The PHP is running in CGI mode.
