VPS - Ultrahosting

Mar 13, 2009

Ultrahosting is a leader in web hosting services worldwide. I've spent 4 months making a research about hundreds of companies around the world from different countries and did a lot of efforts and finally I could find Ultrahosting. I do believe that Ultrahosting should promote itself better and make itself more visible to people for the high-quality service you provide and better prices.

This is my opinion after spending 3 months with them using the VPS plan. they are great.
I know some of you may agree and other will not, but it is an open place for everyone to write his comments.

Has anyone heard or had any experience with ultrahosting. Just seems like a good deal, but you never know. I am not sure how their customer service, uptime or anything else.

UltraHosting Review

Apr 24, 2008

As you may have seen in my other thread, I was looking for a dedicated server to replace our aging celeron machine. My requirements were RAID 1 mirroring (hardware or software), a dual core processor, 1GB+ of RAM, and at least 1TB bandwidth.

I also ideally wanted a company who had been around for a while and has a good reputation. Price was also an issue (wanted to spend under $150 per month).

First of all it was very difficult to find a dedicated server provider who offered RAID 1 mirroring for a reasonable price. I finally came upon iweb (www.iweb.com), who seemed to meet all my criteria. I had an excellent experience with their sales team (particularly Martin, who posts here on this board under the name atchooo). They offered everything I wanted, and for a great price. In fact it was the best price I had found anywhere. They were also Canadian, which is a plus for us, as we are happy to keep our business within Canada. I was about to pull the trigger but tried to negotiate a little extra thrown in for free, and was waiting for a response.

In the meanwhile I received a quote from UltraHosting (www.ultrahosting.com). They are apparently new to the SMB market, but host many other big name clients including Mazda and Chrysler in their datacentre, under their parent company Momentum (formerly OnX I believe). They were also a Canadian company, which again was a plus. Their quote was quite a bit higher than iweb (but in line with most other providers), so I was about to dismiss them. Then I noticed their "price guarantee" policy.... so thought what the heck, and told them what iweb was offering me (including the negotiated extras I was trying to get, which I hadn't even received confirmation on yet).

A few minutes later I got a response with a new quote. They not only matched everything iweb was offering, but even BEAT the price by 10%, and that's with hardware RAID 1 mirroring, whereas iweb was offering me software RAID mirroring.

The offer was too way good to turn down, so I took it.

(As an aside, I should mention that iweb did eventually offer me what I asked. On top of their already excellent rates, they offered to waive the setup fee on a monthly contract, and even through in a few other extras for free. I also have a little more confidence in iweb as they have been around longer, and I like the fact that their sales/support people post here. There also seems to be a lot more information available online about their network and datacentre. If they had in fact responded an hour earlier I would almost certainly have signed up with them, and probably would have been quite happy.)

Anyway, my server with UltraHosting was online within about 36 hours. I had some concerns with the way the disk was partitioned (the /home partition was too big... and plesk doesn't store its files there), so I asked them to rebuild the machine. I didn't have anything on the machine yet and I thought I might as well have everything the way I want it since it's gonna be like that for a while.

They responded within minutes and said they would go ahead and do it, and they even waived any fees involved (after I asked). I sent the request late Wednesday night and by Thursday morning the machine was back online the way I wanted it. I've been very impressed with their service so far. Everytime I've sent an email to their support team, I've received a response within 5 minutes. And a few of those emails were even sent at 10pm and 1am!

Retrospectively, if I had received both quotes at the same time, I may have still chosen iweb (even for the slightly higher price) just because they've been around longer and I want to make sure they will be there when I need them. However my experience with UltraHosting has been great so far so I'm satisfied.

Phew... ok perhaps there's more info in this post than was necessary, but I just felt like sharing my story. I'll try to remember to post a 6-month review somewhere down the line.

What are your thoughts of Ultrahosting.com, I didn't find may reviews here on WHT.

I talked with the sales rep. and he said they host people such as: Mazda, Chrysler and Xerox.

Here's some info he gave on their server:

Quote:
Paresh: to provide some way of background...Ultrahosting is part of our parent company Momentum
Paresh: Momentum handles Managed Service Operations for Enterprise level customers
Paresh: Ultrahosting sits in the same data center as these clients

My Experience With Ultrahosting.com Dedicated Services STAY AWAY FROM IT

Nov 11, 2008

My Experience with Ultrahosting.com Dedicated Services STAY AWAY FROM IT!

I had 3-month experience with ultrahosting.com and I want to share this experience.

if you may have seen the prices are really nice, .. as I thought at glance.

I've ordered my windows dedicated server with Helm control panel.

after 3/4 days I called them and they told me that there is problem with Credit Card or something else... but everything was correct, they told me call them and I called and they told me they'll send me the information .. but after 24hours still nothing! .. I called them again and they told me that they are still waiting for the Helm license request!.

after 5 days (I think) I had the server but I found that the Helm license is only for 100 domains! they told me that the Helm license which is in the order form is for 100 domain (but nothing was written), and if I want Helm unlimited license I've to pay 60$(the helm license in it's web site is 50$ if you purchase directly from Helm )..

ANYWAY YOU SAW OUR PROBLEM AT THE FIRST! ..

NOW .. after 3month .. after having lots of support problem and license and ..
I woke up at the morning and I've got an email with the subject of "your service has been terminated"! ..

TERMINATED! What? .. they told me that we did the ARP Poisoning on their network! and everything is finished !! chating with live sales doesn't helped me so I called the support, but the fun is that the support staff couldn't talk well English (I was wiered!!) and he told me that I've to send email again .. still no response for the email ..my offer is that stay away from ultrahosting .. I decided to start again with Iweb .. but it's really kinda starting again .. cause I'll for sure lose all of my customers who was on the ultrahosting's servers.

they are new to dedicated even thought they are in co-operate with Momentum, they had no help desk in more than 2-month I was sending request to them asking for a help desk. as an experience : we should never work with the guys how has no experience! .. I hope that Iweb can help me. it's better to spend a little (30$) more with Iweb instead of having trouble like this!..
