Phpsuexec, Forum Uploads On IPB Not Working
We have a server that we just changed over to PHPSUEXEC. On this server, we have a large IPB (Invision Power Board) forum that we have not been able to get uploads in the forum back working again. Users are getting the message that they don't have permission, and to contact an administrator.

I have looked on IPB's forum for PHPSUEXEC related issues, but can't find a solution. Of couse, before phpsuexec the "upload" folder had 777 file permissions, but under phpsuexec this must be 755. It isn't working though.

Anyone had experience with this with IPB and know how to fix it?

i have moved my hosting to a new provider and i was wondering what is the quickest way to upload my 500MB files to the new server? Is there anyway i can speed this up like have a dedicated uplink port to my server, or via VPN or something, cos at the moment i have an upload speed of around 10KB/s,

Secure Uploads
My requirements are 500MB, 5GB bandwidth, rails and postgres, $5-6 per month. It looks like there are many providers out there that are offer that.

However the only uploading method shared hosters seem to offer - or at least the only method they advertise - is FTP. Coming from a university and sysadmin background, I thought that anything that sends passwords over the wire unencrypted had died long ago (except HTML forms and legacy systems).

Are there any shared hosting services that allow a more secure upload method (e.g. scp, rsync-over-ssh, even webdav-over-ssl)?

SERVAGE FTP Uploads
company for over a month or 2
contacting them (support tickets) is as useless as not!..
their reply is always simply: we checked and nothing at our side! (asking for a clarification simply gets u nothing!)

problem is simply ONLY with ftp uploads!
my line upstream is 256Kbps (32 KB/sec) and down 1Mbps and i was always capable of pushing up to 2.2 GB/day ((i monitor my traffic all the time))
but just recently some weird things started appearing...

before uploads would never go under 27-26 KBs on my FTP client
now it's so normal finding it dropping to 15,10,4,2, 0!
ya a whole 0!
and that's not just for a second or two
it can stay like that for maybe aminute then go up back again!
And upon watching my traffic statistics closely, i found myself pushing at the most 1.6 GB only a day!
another funny thing is that files used to appear AND PARTIALLY in the root directory instead of the desired directory!
so WHAT IS UP!

Can't Seem To Get File Uploads To Work
We are going to host our own website. I built up a windows 2003 server. Installed IIS6. I am working on file upload to our website. I can get files to upload to c:Temp but not to c:Inetpubwwwrootourwebsiteupload.

I even set up the upload directory for full sharing with write permissions. Still no help.

I went into windows explorer and right clicked on the upload dir and shared it and set the permissions for read and write. That should take care of NTFS permissions. But no matter what I do when I click on the upload directory and go to properties is shows 'read only'. Can't seem to get that turned off. Until I do I don't believe I can upload a file to the upload directory.

I went into iis6 mgr and and set the upload directory for full access - read and write. That should take care of iis security.

I went to default website (there is only one) and allowed anon login. Even told it use the Administrator account for login with all read and write permissions.

Here is my upload code: ....

Causes Of Failed Large Uploads Via Form
I just moved to a new, dedicated server this week. My vbulletin forum users typically upload mp3 files under 10MB. At the moment, I can't seem to get anything above 6MB to work.

In vBulletin land, they recommend changing these in php.ini:
upload_max_filesize - Largest size of a file to accept.
post_max_size - Must be larger than upload_max_filesize.
memory_limit - Should be larger than post_max_size.
max_execution_time
max_input_time

I've cranked all of those up and restarted Apache.

I'm still having the same problems. The little window with the form turns white after what appears maybe 5 minutes, but I haven't timed it.

They also mentioned changing the LimitRequestBody in Apache. I appear to be screwing that part up so I created a thread in the Apache forum specificallya about that.
[url]

So I wanted to ask if there were any other possibilities that you guys could think of that would inhibit the file size up uploads via a form.

I'm running httpd-2.2.8 and php-5.2.6. It needs to be said that this forum is config is mostly right out of the box. $_SESSION wouldn't work in php until I changed the directory for it yesterday. So there may be a very basic config setting that I missed.

---------

I decided to check my error logs.

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9852343 bytes)

I'm confused. I have an allowed memory of 30MB (give or take). So why does a 10MB file "exhaust" it?

Pure-ftpd Crashing During File Uploads
I've been running pure-ftpd for around 4 months now without any problems, until around 24-48 hours ago file upload has been going a bit loopy.

When you upload a file the speed bounces considerably, and at times pauses on 0kbps until it then dies and fails the upload. 9/10 uploads I have tried have failed.

[R] Opening data connection IP: 74.86.20.181 PORT: 35283
[R] LIST -al

[R] 226 6 matches total
[R] List Complete: 374 bytes in 0.64 seconds (0.6 KB/s)
Transfer queue completed
1 File failed to transfer
[R] Connection lost: chacha
We have restarted pure-ftpd a number of times, but have had no luck.

Please could you try and upload a file (at least 10mb and please nothing dodgey) to this FTP account:

address: chacha.99k.org
user: chacha@99k.org
pass: password

And output the result.

Does anyone here have experience with pure-ftpd and would possibly consider giving my system a "once over"?

So the session_timeout and upload_max need to be adjusted. Anybody with experience with large upload sites ?

Site Hacked Via Php Script Placed In WordPress Uploads Directory
First of all, I discoverd this forum during my quest to unravel the mysteries of how my site was hacked. I hope this is an appropriate forum to discuss the issues even though I am not a web hosting provider, but merely a customer of a web hosting company, hostrocket.com

I have an installation of WordPress 2.1 WordPress creates a couple world writable directories such as Uploads and Cache which are owned by nobody. Apparently (according to the tech support at hostrocket.com) someone was able to insert and exectue a php script in my world writable Uploads directory. Over 40MB of scripts, executables and files were uploaded. As best I can tell, my space was being used as some sort of link farm or perhaps acting as a server in my webspace. I do not have much knowledge about these things and consequently can't talk very inetlligently about them. But I am trying to grasp what little I am able to absorb about how this could have happened, what I can do to mitigate it from reocurring in the future.

Some of the stuff that was in the directory is as follows...

2421
bindz
h4ckerz
mass.pl p
trace-kmod
2421.1
brk
help.php
mybindshell
ptrace24

As you can see, I was had in a BIG way.

So the first thing my webhost had me do was to change ownership of the directories owned by nobody to me. Then I was able to change permissions from 777 to 755. However in so doing, I am no longer able to use the Dashboard of WordPress to upload images anymore, unless I temporarily change permissions back to 777.

The other thing the tech support guy did is to create an .htaccess file with,
php_flag engine off
I guess this basically renders php scripts impotent from running.

So without flaming me, can you help me understand how someone in a shared server environment is able to put a php script into one of my directories?

What amazed me was this particular script, "99.php" actually when viewed in a browser window titled phpshell was called "c99adult v. 1.0 pre-release build #16". It basically enabled whoever had access to the URL, to view my webspace, and do all sorts of nasty things. Talk about a wake-up call!

Obviously this enabled the hacker to view my config.php file and ascertain my database password and everything else. Whether he did, or whether there is a logfile of that info that could enable him to hack the database at some time in the future is unknown to me but it's really freaking me out.

SSL Not Working
I've been working on a script which requires SSL, and in doing so, I've realised that my SSL is playing up for all domains on my server. I receive the error message: "An error occurred during a connection to www.pxlabs.net.au. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)".

I am using Apache 2.2 with PHP 5.2.10 along with cPanel/WHM. It used to work, but I assume maybe one of the updates have messed it up? I haven't actually touched anything in the configurations apart from going about the regular updates for cPanel.

I had a look in the httpd.conf, and I can't see any entries for virtual hosts on port 443.

Is My Mod_cband Working
I install mod_cband on apache server running on linux CentOS

I put these directives on the files
/usr/local/directadmin/data/templates/custom/virtual_host2.conf

<VirtualHost |IP|>
ServerName www.|DOMAIN|
ServerAdmin |ADMIN|
DocumentRoot |DOCROOT|
CBandScoreboard /var/www/scoreboard/|DOMAIN|.scoreboard
CBandSpeed 1536 15 30
CBandRemoteSpeed 728kb/s 3 3
</VirtualHost>

Then I echo "action=rewrite&value=httpd" >> /usr/local/directadmin/data/task.queue
and restart apache

But when I look at the mod_cband status page
why does the Remote clients still have speed more than 728kbps
and the request per sec is also above 15.

Is my mod_cband working?

Indyahozting Working Or Not
I hosted many of the domains in indyahozting and registered some of the domains also. There is a guy named Ravi, who supported a lot to host all the details. Now his mobile is not reachable and if I am sending any mails to support@indyahozting.com, there is absolutely no response. The company sent a mail stating on 15th May, 2008, stating there is a change in the management. The mail states that
"Also, Mr. Ravi Iyer, who has been managing the company all these days in all aspects, has moved ahead to look after the other businesses of the company, and will regretfully be attending to indyahozting and its clients no longer.

All support queries may be placed on our website thru the ticketing system, or by email to support@indyahozting.com, and billing and sales queries may be placed at billig@indyahozting.com and sales@indyahozting.com respectively.".

I tried for renewal of a domain, it is also not done. Sent lot of mails to support@indyahozting.com. I tried to contact Ravi, only one time I contacted him, stating that he is looking for other activities. Unfortunately, a growing company missed a techie and I think the company is going to close. If a hosting company is like this then what to do?

;;;;;;;;;;;
; WARNING ;
;;;;;;;;;;;
; This is the default settings file for new PHP installations.
; By default, PHP installs itself with a configuration suitable for
; development purposes, and *NOT* for production purposes.
; For several security-oriented considerations that should be taken
; before going online with your site, please consult php.ini-recommended
; and http://php.net/manual/en/security.php.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; About this file ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
;
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
;
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
;
; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
;
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
; | bitwise OR
; & bitwise AND
; ~ bitwise NOT
; ! boolean NOT
;
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
;
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
;
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
;
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
;
; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin
; defaults (that is, if no php.ini is used, or if you delete these lines,
; the builtin defaults will be identical).

; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer

; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better

; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard
; output_handler, or otherwise the output will be corrupted.

As per the instructionsin your article on [url], I've installed the IIS through the Add Windows Component section of the Add/Remove Programs application in the Control Panel. named.conf shows both A entries correct at domain.com.db:

Code:
john 14400 IN A SERVER-IP
www.john 14400 IN A SERVER-IP
The subdomain was created 2 days go, so this is not a dns propagation issue.

Why Is My Internet Working! :S
(schematic available at [url])

I am building a new network here, and I have built all the infrastructure servers and built the firewall server (as well as connected it to the internet), just for testing, I have allowed all traffic to anywhere.

Now, the firewall is set up so that it has the DNS for the router (192.168.0.1) on the internet NIC, and on the internal NIC it has DNS set up as 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 (FYI, DMZ is blank, but the mahcines on DMZ have the same .2 & .3 set)

I can understand why internet works from the firewall machine as it is getting DNS addresses from the router, however I loged on to INTERNAL1 (the primary infrastructure server), which for DNS, only has itself (and the .3 machine as backup), and I can get full internet... It fully 100% works.

I can not understand this! the dns server that it has does not have ANY fowarders configured, however the websites I visited appeared in the cache just fine.

So, My question is, how on earth was I able to connect to the internet... it just makes no sense to me

.jsp Not Working
With my current setup everything works except that the JSP application runs from [rl], but I want to make it work from [url]directly.

Note: /dir is located at c:/www/tomcat5/webapps

So using the virtual host directive, I'm able to redirect http://www.domain.com to /dir, but then the application doesn't work, browser just displays the file contents.

My workers.properties (located at c:/www/apache2/conf/) file looks like this:

Code:
workers.tomcat_home=C:/www/tomcat5/webapps
workers.java_home=c:/www/java
ps=/
worker.list=default

worker.default.port=8009
worker.default.host=localhost
worker.default.type=ajp13
worker.default.lbfactor=1
my mod_jk settings in httpd.conf is:

Code:

# Mod_jk settings
#

JkWorkersFile "conf/workers.properties"
JkLogFile "logs/mod_jk.log"

JkLogLevel error

JkMount /dir* default

# End of mod_jk settings

My VirtualHost Entry for domain.com is:

Code:
<VirtualHost www.domain.com>
ServerName www.domain.com
DocumentRoot "c:/www/tomcat5/webapps/v"
CustomLog "c:/www/tomcat5/logs/access/domain.log" combined

POP3 Not Working On Outlook
I've found today that my outlook can't download email messages from server. I thought it was a mail server but the messages are there when I look through webmail.

For 48 hours I didn't receive any email in outlook and I was alerted today by my customers since they don't receive anything too. The strange thing is that outlook runs normally. It doesn't display any error: just doesn't download any messages from inbox. I have my customers complaining BAD service (about 80 customers on that VPS). It was working and now it isn't...

I opened a support ticket to my provider (jaguarpc.com) but they are taking toooooo long to solve it and their answers are ineffective - I think they are not giving the correct attention to this issue. As you know, email issues are big since online businesses rely on them.

I have another VPS with jaguarpc and pop3 is working fine...

If someone could give me a hint about this issue maybe I could solve it through cpanel or give that info to support.

By the way, IMAP works fine. Just POP3 doesn't work.

Cpanel Not Working... Need To Backup
As a background: They had uptime problems, which have since been resolved, however now they seem to have let their cpanel license lapse. Neither I, nor my clients (nor anyone else on the server, according to their forums), can log into CPanel or WHM, getting the error "Cannot read license file." In the beginning they kept saying it would be fixed in 24 hours. 3 weeks later, still waiting.

At any rate, our biggest issue right now is that cpanel has not been working since the first week in July. I make weekly full backups, sent via ftp to a remote server, of all my client sites with a cronjob. Since cpanel has been offline, I haven't had a backup since July 1.

I'm doing a straight FTP of all the sites' data individually to my hard drive as I'm not sure what else to do to back up their stuff.

I guess my question is: If I have to resort to finding a new host (which, if this doesn't get resolved soon, I'll have to), will these straight FTP backups be enough to restore the sites, including mysql data, email accounts, cgi sections, .htaccess/.htpasswd files, etc? What about WHM data for my reseller account?

My assumption is that this will be a lot more work, but hoping it's not my only option.

Cron Quit Working...
I have a dedicated CentOS 4.5 Server. However, as you can probably guess I am new to linux and managing a server...

Anyway, beginning of this month my crons quit working, I still receive emails as if they are ran but I can't get the scripts to actually execute.

I have not touched the crontabs or anything prior to them not working, they simply quit working... I did not notice immediatly they did not work, I am guessing that it was around the time of which I rebuilt apache to a new version of PHP. Today I tried changing them to "php path/to/script.php" and I also tried "path/to/php /path/to/script.php", neither worked.

Any ideas or suggestions as to how I can fix this?

NETMASK=255.255.255.248
NETWORK=192.168.1.0/24
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet

save and /etc/init.d/network restart

I used ifconfig to check both status, both of them are up. both of them may ping google, but when I try to ping their each other through internal IP, nothing returns.

I used command tracert to follow, found all packages were sent to Internet rather than an internal IP.

My host tells me to do it by making NAT, I have no idea on it. Anyone may help me out on how to do with NAT?

Executable:

/usr/bin/perl

Command Line (often faked in exploits):

/usr/bin/perl -w test.pl

Suphp Working With Vsftpd
I am setting up a shared Server with apache2 and php5 + suhosin +suPHP + vsftpd.

The Directory Structure is:

1. DocumentRoot

/var/www/virtual/website1
/var/www/virtual/website2
/var/www/virtual/website3
............etc

2. For each website I would create a system account and tie it to each virutal host(as required by suPHP)

chown -R John:group1 /var/www/virtual/website1
chown -R Mary:group1 /var/www/virtual/website2
chown -R Ben:group1 /var/www/virtual/website3
...........etc

<VirtualHost 192.168.100.44>
DocumentRoot /var/www/virtual/website1
ServerName www.website1.com
suPHP_UserGroup John group1
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 192.168.100.45>
DocumentRoot /var/www/virtual/website2
ServerName www.website2.com
suPHP_UserGroup Mary group1
</VirtualHost>
........etc

3. I setup vsftpd with chroot to each virtual host.

This works very nice as long as each client has only one ftp account. But if a client(website1) wants to have multiple ftp accounts( ex. john, john100, john200), they would mess up the file ownership when they upload and change files. Since suPHP executes PHP scripts with the permissions of their owners (suPHP_UserGroup John group1, suPHP would complain their setid is mismatched because the John100 is not the suPHP_USERGROUP owner(John). I have tried Virtual Hosting with Vsftpd and Mysql, that didn't work because all the virutal users would be acting as one user (guest_username=virtualftp) when they upload and change files. I am wondering if there is ways to allow multiple ftp accounts for each Virutal host working together with suPHP. Or It is possible for ftp user to change ownership once they log in.

Rewrite Not Working With ProxR
I'm not even really sure if rewrite is what I need, but basically I have an alias/proxy setup on apache which points mysite.com/itunes/ to mysite2.com/pr/itunes/. My script php executes on the second server, so it assumes that the address should be mysite.com/pr/itunes/. I need to rewrite this to mysite.com/itunes. Here's my code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^itunes/(.*).php$ pr/itunes/(.*).php
