I currently have a few servers which I bought previously from eBay. They are not very good specification wise, so I am planning to swap them all for a single server. I have managed to find all my wanted components apart from the Case.
Does anyone know any reliable SuperMicro case provider in the UK?
Or perhaps recommend an alternative reliable case manufacturer.
I am trying to track down a suppler for very cheap generic 2U cases.
I need some both short in length and standard in length (Micro ATX and Standard).. Anything that will take a standard ATX PSU and components would do the job.
They will need to be shipped to Australia/New Zealand so anywhere close is a bonus (Aust, Asia ect.)
I have looked at some of the Norco cases ect. However I feel the price is still to high.
I have a VPS account with WHP which is unmetered monthly transfer and a caped speed at 3 mbps, they saying that you are allowed to use %100 of the cpu:

My question is what would be a case that they may suspend my account?
I been invegistating into the 1U-3U Cases, and I been wondering about the power supply units that powers the boxes.
I know that Supermicro have very high efficiency power supply units in their chassis, but I am also wondering about the others, like Asus and Tyan chassis. Reason is that I am looking into purchasing servers, and I rather have those that have efficent power supply units in it than those stodgy Dell units, that is known for not quite efficient power supply units in it.
If anyone know of other 1U chassis that comes with efficient power units, I would like to know.
I am trying to put together a 1U server, and this is the first time I've had to deal with the space constraints of a rackmount server.
I am toying with a RAID 10 setup, which requires 4 drives, so I am looking at 2.5" enterprise drives so that I can fit 4 into a 1U rack. The problem is I was on newegg and don't see any cases with 2.5" bays. Are there kits that convert 3.5" bays to 2x2.5" or something of this nature? Furthermore, I see here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136260
that the 2.5" drive is inside a 3.5" brick. Can this be taken out of the mount? I don't see the point in paying extra for a 2.5" drive that only fits in a 3.5" slot.
I have read that in a 4-drive array, RAID 10 outperforms RAID 5. This seems counterintuitive to me because in RAID 5 there is essentially striping across 3 drives, and then parity on the 4th, whereas in 10, you would only have striping across 2 drives. Is this just because of the calculations involved in generating the parity?
2-3 months ago I ordered 2 machines to test them out. build and ship time was told a week. ok thats fair.
two weeks go by nothing.
third week get a hold of someone due to a company "move" and my sales guy being let go my order got lost somewhere. was assured it would be shipped out on monday overnight.
Tuesday rolls around no equipment. can't get ahold of anybody.
Week passes no word. I initiate a charge back. charge back starts its motion.
month later my charge back is reversed? puzzled. Geta hold of clark at RMM. was promised up and down that he would take care of it and call me on monday.
Few days pass. no word... So I get a hold of him on IM. he's still looking into it/talking to the bank?
another week or two passes. I contact clark the other day. says he has a conference and a meeting with the bank.. sure great whatever.
To this day still no response. So what i'm out 1425? i'm going to go backto my bank again and charge back yet again or send them after RMM.
Aparently the chargeback never went through because surprise surprise RMM's bank account was zero'd out. i.e no funds to take.
RMM. I'm tired of waiting and i'm tired of the lies. Just take care of it, I hav avoided this and I will continue to tell people why its not a good idea to use your company when people ask for hardware venders and requests.
instead of buying a rackmount that holds 16 hard drives that is about 1000$ for the case + power supply.
why not just buy a tower that might cost you $400 + PSU and use that?
my question is wouldnt it be cheaper for me to buy a tower instead of rackmounts if my majority is in space , for example my tower that costed me about $99 holds 12 hard drive bays (this is in my desktop house) , while my 3u rackmount holds 16 hard drives but it was $1000 + PSU included.
if your able to have a GPU on a rackmount server?

Any good words on RackmountMicro? to get 10 Dual Core 6600.
Can anyone recommend an affordable antivirus hardware appliance that can be put in-line between a physical machine acting as a mail server and the switch? I need it only to filter on ONE machine so it would not have to be extremely fast. Spam filtering would be a plus as well. Any recommendations? I am looking for something plug and play.

Do you know any great rackmount seller in Europe or Asia?
* Asia is prefered because of shipping costs.
