I Understand there are a lot of options but I was hoping you guys could point me in the correct direction for the best global connectivity. Im assuming since LA is so diverse in its x connects there should be one provider out there with outstanding bandwidth and a lot of connects to different providers.

Aug 21, 2007colocation in Los Angeles [1/2 cab to full cab] and have been strongly leaning toward Peer1. I've done a ton of research on Peer1 through this site, and the general consensus seems to be that they're very solid.
I came across a handful of posts from 2005 and 2006 about problems in NYC, and there are two or three people on WHT who seem to have long-standing issues with Peer1, but I haven't found a single thread labeled "Peer1 outage" or "Peer1 downtime", which -- considering the size of the company -- makes them seem very stable.
What I'd like to hear is some specific reports from people who colo with Peer1 (especially those in Los Angeles) about how much annual downtime and packetloss is typical with Peer1. How many power outages, and for how long? How many router issues, and for how long? That kind of thing...
The longer you've been with Peer1, the better, but issues covering the last 2-3 years would probably be most relevant (things can change a lot from 4+ years ago). I'd just like to go into this feeling confident that I'm making the right choice. [It's a big step because I'm thousands of miles from L.A. and need things to work -- I don't want to have to move once I'm there.]
Finally, while I am obviously leaning toward Peer1, I'm also open to suggestions for other colo providers in Los Angeles. However, they have to be stable companies with a proven track record and fast 24/7 support -- If I call at 4 in the morning, I need an engineer on the phone standing by my server in a matter of minutes. I also need the security of a company that is big enough (and charges enough) that it won't be going out of business two years from now.

Los Angeles Or San Diego Colocation
May 1, 2008Alright so i have been looking around for colocation and I LOVE Calpop.com's pricing however, after speaking to the owner and researching on this forum about that, i have realized just how horrible they are. The owner Lynn told me that the price of electricity is a lot more than their bandwidth costs. I only wanted A 1/3 1/4 or even half a cabinet and he basically told me that they wouldn't be able to offer me the services that I want since I will be using too much power with 5-6 servers. I'm not looking for high quality low latency bandwidth but it would be nice. I just need lots of "power", good network redundancy, and quick phone support in the event that i need a hard reboot on one of my servers.
I'm looking for a good price on 10Mbs of bandwidth, 10Amps of power and really just 1/3 or 1/4 a cabinet but in the near future i would like to go for a half or even a full cabinet. Any recommendations? I'm looking to keep the whole thing under $400.00 but i have a feeling my budget is way too cheap.

Apr 29, 2008I am working on finding a colo provider in Los Angeles that can meet these requirements:
* Full Cabinet
* 2x20A 220v Power
* Bandwidth either 1Gbps full burstable or 1Gbps dedicated (with plans to move up to 2-3Gbps within a year)
* Available ASAP
The sites that it will be hosting are sales and informational for a consumer product that sporadically gets news or magazine coverage which massively spikes its traffic. These times are when a good chunk of the revenue comes in but we do not necessarily know when they are coming. Does anyone know if having a full burstable line will cover this sort of eventuality or should we grab the entire dedicated line just to ensure we have it waiting? We would be providing all of our own firewalls and equipment, we just need the bandwidth, preferably without having to deal with a router on our side.
Price isn't the biggest consideration; reliability, stability, security, and performance are.
As an additional question, we are looking at a Catalyst 4507R-E switch for the core of our network, with redundant supervisors (for the purposes of ensuring we have no single points of failure). Any one have experience with this switch that can say whether it's a good choice or not for that?

Apr 11, 2008I'm configuring a website for a client who has moved their web hosting to downtownhost, but is keeping their email hosting with their current provider. They do not want to configure an MX entry on DTH to autoforward email back to their current provider because they don't want their email to pass through DTH.
In order to do this, do I keep the nameserver entries on the current provider the same, and configure an http redirect to point to DTH? Or is there something else I should configure on the current provider?

Blue Host And Host Monster Is Operated By The Same People
Aug 3, 2008I was with Blue Host and their support and service was pretty bad. Servers going down all the time, and chat support was terrible. Then I moved to Host Monster and received the same kind of service/support. I later then figured out that Blue Host and Host Monster is runned by the same people. For example, I opened up a tech support ticket with Host Monster and then they replied signing their signature with Blue Host. So I got the same service: terrible tech support and servers kept going down. Now I'm looking for a new web hosting. I a few people here gave Host Gator some good reviews. I hope Host Gator is not run be the same people that runs Blue Host and Host Monster.

Best Host For A Blog Site- Register With 1&1 And Host With Godaddy
May 27, 2008with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?

Dec 12, 2007I have just made a personal website using photoshop, html, css and php. My site contains an index page, a gallery page with 8 photos, a contact page with a form and an extra page with some quotes. I am planning to use a paid host for the first time. Based on feedbacks from some of my sitepoint friends, I decided to go in for shared hosting. I thought of using Hostdogs.com as they have the option of a monthly billing cycle. I thought that I have the option of changing my host after a month if I am not happy with them. I have also read a lot about Hostgator.com. A lot of sitepoint members seem hooked to it.
1. Can anyone give an opinion as to which host I should go in for? Hostdogs also give a free domain. Is there any reason I should go in for Hostgator instead of Hostdogs?
2. One more question, I have heard that once I have a site running, I can earn money through the advertisements placed on it? How do I place advertisements on my site?
3. One last and very important question is whether it is right to go in for shared hosting at this point of time. I just read this

Windows Host Or Specialsit ASP Host
Dec 31, 2007I will be setting up a site which uses ASP.NET 1.1. I know versions 3.0/3.5 are available, but they are not yet V2.0 compliant. Anyway thst is not the issue - just context.
Would like your advice as to whether it would be better to host this site with a company who looks as though they are specialising in ASP; such as DiscountASP, or Softsyhosting, or go with a general Windows hoster such as Steadfast, Fluidhosting, or 3Essentials?
I know nothing about ASP, so I don't know whether it is not at all neccessary to have a host specifically knowledgable about it, as I am unlikely to ever have problems with it, OR; I will most certainly have to address ASP issues sometime, so it would be essential to have support who really knows ASP.

Mar 3, 2005I got the beta of vis studio 2005 about a month ago and happily started coding away. I recently told my host to convert to asp.net 2.0 so I could upload the stuff and have it work and he said he couldnt until the non beta comes out.

May 4, 2008Is there any disadvantages to hosting on a US based host? When I'm currently in the UK, I'm planning on a website with a huge amount of content, and so far only the US hosts seem to offer enough bandwidth for the price? I've checked out a lot of UK Hosts but they all seem to be considerably lower than the US bandwidths.

Sep 18, 2008I have been with a lot of web hosting providers and I even gave my experiences a few days ago with heart internet, but 'JUST HOST' justhost.com rocks!! Can you imagine, I tried calling them and lines were busy, and submiitted a form online asking them to call, and I was called in under 3 minutes. The servers are fast, I uploaded my entire website in a few minutes. And what they offer for £3.95p/m is just unbelievable.They even offer a free domain, but make sure you claim it at point of buying or you cannot do this after.
